I have an old Zildjian china boy low 20” that I just love. It’s not a sound I use a lot, but when I need it, it’s nice to know it’s there.
As a non drummer. Just a vocalist. What does putting holes into a cymbal actually do to the sound? Say if i put a couple of holes into a crash. What would change?
The best chinas are Chinese. Funnily enough. Anything else is an imitation.
What do you think is the best one for the good ol' deathcore breakdowns?
Chinas aside, the sound mixing and eq is sooo crisp they all sound good!

The more I thought it would be better for rock or jazz, I saw value in it for the other too It depends how you use it, some for rock could be used for jazz, and vice versa. Some Chinas are really loud, but could be used in jazz, some are quiet but could be used in rock nonetheless. The different colors and tones could be utilized in either

Okay. now pull the entry level Paiste out of there and try again with a pro level one, like the others. everything else( except the Wuhan, price wise) is top notch

Zildjian was was my favorite. Nice, dark and explosive.
Ziljdjian and Sabian for me, for different purposes. I like very, very much the Byzance, maybe it's my favorite, but lost several points for being so low in volume. Wuhan too aggressive, stands out too much, too bright. I love Paiste, but that particular china was just meh for my taste.

my first every china cymbal was a wuhan and it lasted for about a year, year and a half maybe. it sounded great until it began to crack. i still have it to this day, all mangled, it still sounds better than all the chinas i own, which are 2 different sabian chinas.
Wuhans just make the best chinas man I swear. The 18 is solid and the 12 always cracks after a year or so of heavy use but theyre just so damn easy to replace!
Paiste is the most interesting for me.It is melodic and the overtones sounds like in the old Kung fu movies before a fight starts. Probably they all sound different in reality but in the video, the Wuhan sounds like an old metal pot from a granny's kitchen.the rest sound pretty similar to each other .
Ah yes wuhan i had a 12 a 16 and 18"by far the only thing i respect manufactured in china and that 18 was something special my 12 died early on the 16 didnt bite as much as hoped a 14"sabian replaced it for good but i miss my 18

The reason why all the brands name their china cymbals China is because the Chinese wuhan cymbals all have that thin hand hammered b20 bronze sound. I have The Zildjian oriental china, but once I hit a 18 inch Wuhan tradititional china in a music store and heard that nice trashy sound, I had to have it. It is by far the nicest sounding china on the market. But that’s my opinion and I suppose everyone has their own taste. But for heavy metal thrash music it’s the best.
