With only 27 MILLION views, I’m pretty sure the world agrees this is the BEST crash ever recorded. I SUSPECT it was a 14” Ziljian A from back in the day. I've been playing a 16" thin A series for almost 40 years, and for my playing style "non-abusive crasher" there are few cymbals that are as musical. I also LOVE the 18" K Dark medium thin. These two are my primary crash cymbals, because they're so musical. Can you smash them?... yeah... but they like to be treated nicely. Don't get me wrong... I play in a hard rock and metal band, and I still love both of these. Never been a huge fan of the A series medium. Just a bit abrasive to me, but nice for live due to the increased volume. Bottom line... if you're not a heavy hitter, and you're recording... I'd suggest thin cymbals all day for their musical signature. If you play out without cymbal micing... go with thicker cymbals. Just my suggestion.

I have 4 Zildjian 20” crashes. 2 are medium thin redesigned and the other 2 are a custom. They open up with very little effort, cut through and sit well in dense mixes. They’re also vey durable! 👍👏💪
I had a 18” Rock Crash in the late 80s. I thought it would be such a cool cymbal to add to my kit—it had “Rock” in the name after all—but it turned out to be way too loud. Fortunately another drummer in my high school gladly bought it off me.
Damn I think I like the Medium the best

Meinl Byzance>> Paiste signature>>Istanbul paperthin>>Zildjian K Custom>>Zildjian A>>Paiste 602>>Sabian HHX>>Istanbul signature>>Meinl Pure Alloy>>Sabian AA thin, I usually prefer Zildjian but I think I gotta give the credit to the Meinl Byzance and Paiste signature here, both have the perfect blend of wash, sustain and tone and actually sound musical. The Istanbul paperthin sounds great too which is saying a lot for me since I usually do not go for thinner, trashier cymbals. Only ones that I really wasn't crazy about were the Pure Alloy and the AA.

Istanbul Agop Signature 18" hell yes! Paiste Signature Full 18" and Zildjian K Custom Dark 18" also favs.
I come here again and again. XD. Both istanbuls sound the best i think. The pure alloy and AA sabian sound generic and lifeless.

With my eyes closed, nothing compared the the Paiste Signature Full 18. It was seriously that much better
For my personallity the Meihl Pure Alloy Medium 18" is my favorite sound.....the others very good sounds too...
I actually have the Zildjian K custom in my current set up. But man that Paiste Signature was the cream of the crop by far.

The 18 inch A custom crash has always been my favorite crash of all time. It works great for a main crash. I've started taking a liking to K's a lot more. Especially with the K custom dark and special dry crashes!!! Also the 20 inch K Cluster crash is a great cymbal. I have that in my cymbal arsenal as well as other A's and K's!!!!!!
The 20’ dark thin crash I really like it as a darker crash along side something like the a custom or a paiste 200
Ive had a good amount of A customs. But slowly moving to K's. i got K hybrid, ride and hats. That K sweet, is sounding really sweet. Gonna have to get me some. ;) And even the K custom special dry crash sounds crisp.
K Custom Session & A Custom
I happen to have A Custom crashes even sizes and K Dark Thin crashes in odd sizes. It was interesting to me that the 20" of both sound identical.

Fantastic video, and it's all Zildjian cymbals! Which ones would you recommend for a more punk style? Currently I have a 16" K sweet, 19" Avedis, and 21" A sweet ride for my main cymbals. I'm thinking about trading in my 19" Avedis for an 18" A custom or 18" K cluster... what are your thoughts? Thanks!

The K Custom Session Crash sounds amazing - I never really considered that one but now I might have to. Still, the 19" K Dark Thin Crash is my favorite crash cymbal. Have you ever tried the normal A series crashes? I prefer those to the A Customs most of the time.

Hey, great video. From those you have shown here I have an 18" A Custom and a 19" K Dark Thin. Mine are a slightly lower in pitch than yours, maybe it's the recording, I don't know. Also have a 17" A Custom Projection, a bit smaller but great when you need fast and bright accents, and a 20" K Custom Dark crash that is quick and a bit dry for a 20", but not as much as the Special Dry's, wich are too dry for me (I may like them as an occassional effect, but not as a regular crash). All of them are great cymbals anyway, and have their use. My next purchase, crash-wise, will most likely be a 20" K Dark Thin crash, just after a 23" K Sweet ride that I'm in love with... they'll have to wait, though, it ain't the best moment to spend some money now... 🤷🏻‍♂️
