Always keep your micrometers open when storing them. When closed and they heat up, you'll loose accuracy - especially for the cheaper ones where the steel may not be that forgiving
A good use for a micrometer people don't really know about is getting the right feel for a feeler gauge. Tighter the micrometer on a feeler then pull it back, that's the sort of tension you want if you use feelergauge to do nozzle adjustments or valves etc.

When using a micrometer, very slight surface changes such as oils and any dust will throw the reading out. Ideally, clean hard surfaces with a lens cloth or similar. Very good results for a Mitutoyo clone. (I wish that my callipers were a better clone.)

Sold out. Do you know if it drains the battery while off? Some cheap digital calipers will drain the battery even while off. It's a pain to have to reinsert the battery before each use. I'm hoping these micrometers don't have the same issue.

Nobody's asked - in 4 years - what the heck "coolant proof" means. Is it like "waterproof" to 185-meters? You can dunk it in coolant 185-meters deep and it still works? Or does it mean something completely different?
Just bought one struggling with setting the origin - instructions are very confusing to somone like me with no xp with these devices. I'm getting the impression I was meant to get a "standard bar" as per the instructions, which it looks like I don't have strangely. Sigh

as an addition to what vajake1 below me said, due to temperature differences in the shop, the anvils (as any other material) will tend to expand. storing the micrometer when the anvils are close together will have them pressuring each other (due to them hitting one another, wanting to expand), which might affect their true-ness or other precision mechanism parts within the micrometer itself.

May I suggest that when you do put the mic back in the box to store it; seperate the carbide anvil surfaces. They are precision ground and they may seize together. You will find it very difficult to get them apart.
