I have a problem with your review. You point out that the flash unit is defective, as in, there is something internally loose. I would think you'd stop there, replace the unit, then continue with your review.
After the YN 560 II and the YN 550 III The whole lineup of Yongnuo went down the drain in terms of reliability and build.
Do you actually photograph firing off your flashes as though they are assault weapons? Using my Yongnuos for portraiture firing single shots at a slower tempo I have had no problems.
Hi, the new firmware has upgraded recycle time. You should try, because mine works as good as your Godox.
If there are so many problems, just pay the money and buy the Canon. You can get a box of YN units for the price of 1 Canon, so obviously there is going to be a difference. How about Godox build quality? Where I am, Godox is almost as cheap as YN, so maybe the Godox is a better buy. Out of curiosity, did you go to the YN website and check for a firmware update?

I have a question for I don't use flash much. What would be best, Yongnuo or Godox, for shooting through softbox, have HSS, quick recycle time and can have an external battery pack attached if need be. Please list the speelite model/name and the transmitter name/model, and external battery pack. I need to watch how much I outlay in costs though. Many thanks.
I have the YN600EX-RT II and the YN-E3-RT and I've never had an issue with them with the exception of TTL sometimes is not accurate to me. However, they've been reliable and for the price, it's the best value I think.
I have two Yongnuo YN600EX-RT II and the YN-E3-RT. They all work great and the only con I would have for them is if they all stop working. You seem to gripe on a lot of stuff with Yongnuo products. I sure as hell won't pay $500 for the Canon version.
Thank you for creating this review . A sales person at B & H in NY Informed me about this speed lite recently . It seemed like a great speed lite to purchase on a lower budget, especially seeing that I wouldn't have to use 4 double A batteries like I have to do on my canon 600ex-rt speed lite . However I've always been skeptical of Yongnuo myself because of their build quality . They look great at first glance , but it really is a hit or miss company still. I always appreciated the fact that they could perform just as well as a nikon or canon speedlite and even sync with their systems . However I would hate for the flash to just break on me if the speed lite doesn't sit properly on the base of my camera or on a stand that is being tilted for directional lighting . Definitely not take my eye off of YN because they're really pushing the line . They're getting better with adding more useful options for their products . Thanks again @Scott Dumas !

that specific unit seems defective, there are several videos that test the 686 and apparently work much faster than the one you
thanks for comparison, been looking at updating my flashes with lithium battery for more flash a better recycle time. the Godox seem to be the best.

I have two yn 600 ex-rt speedlites and a yn-e3-rt transmitter and they work well they take AA batteries
Godox still the best. look at the size of yn 686. its as huge as the yn660 which have gn of 66( very powerfull +2/3 stops) but its still gn 60 and godox release the new xpro trigger for 69( the old is ~40). yn trigger is 77usd wtf ? so-so performace. better spend more 45usd and get the godox 860. or even the 850 for 140usd. GODOX SYSTEM cants be beated anytime soon. they have ad200 ad360 ad600 !!!!!

You get what you pay for. CANON equipment lasts decades. Notice you're already having problems with the fong special equipment. I have 6 Canon 430 ex rt and 8 Canon 600 ex rt with two Canon st e3 rt controllers. You can save money buying used as like i said Canon lasts for decades and they are widely available.

I totally agree with you on the on-camera use. That's why I purchased the Canon version to use as my primary/on-camera flash, and the Yongnuos as my secondary/backup/fill flash where their precision is not as critical. Besides, the Canon flash always looks more dope when sitting atop the Canon camera. Although I try to avoid on-camea flash as a creative photographer.

There's one major upside of going with Yongnuo when using it with the YN-E3-RT trigger instead of Canon's trigger and that's having an AF assist beam on the trigger. It really surprised me that Yongnuo was smart enough to put an AF assist beam onto their trigger while Canon lacks that basic and important feature, especially when shooting in low light conditions, unless of course you use a Canon speedlite as an on-camera trigger, which will be unnecessarily bulky and defeats the purpose of wanting to use a trigger in the first place. Btw I have gone through multiple YN600EX-RT and RTII's over the last few years and so have a couple my friends who are into event photography. When shooting big events, losing a flash due to it either being stolen or taking a fatal fall doesn't hurt that much when you know you've bought it for about 1/3rd the price of the Canon.
I never had the switch on-off-lock problems, in fact they are kind of hard to turn, the lock one is good so that I don't change accidentally the set up moded
I have good news. I just updated my YN600EX-RT II firmware and it fixed my ETTL issue. I was having issues when I use ETTL. Manual works fine and never had any hardware issue. I works perfect with my Canon 7d MkII and EOS RP :-) - http://www.hkyongnuo.com/e-aboutus.php
I think there is a Hugh diference between the función of this tu flashes: the yongnuo dont have the external metering sensor in frontal side of the flash, so you can not use the functions of external automatic and manual metering. Si, you only have two óptimos for correct exposure: 1. Use a light meter or 2. Use the guide Number table reference to choose the correct aperure or distance.
I have like 4 of them and I never had a problem with the power switch.
No need to remove batteries, just slide a piece of paper or thin card over the end of the cells
I have 2 of those Yongnuo flashes. I make it a habit to remove the batteries and place them back in the carrying case it came in then pack it with the rest of my gear.

i Totally disagree with your verdict, a yn600 rt II is much better option than any canon flash other than a 600rt. I have and used them for years.
I have two YN600 ex-rt and have no problem with focusing when on camera the quality can be a bit hit and miss you must have got one of the bad ones I agree with you that you only get what you pay for.
Just remove one battery from the Yongnuo to save it turning on. You might also try turning one battery around backwards. If there's a diode in the unit, it'll prevent any reverse current flow, so nothing will happen. That's up to you to try that option, but removing one battery will save time when it's time to load batteries back in.
