I love that remark about the protective film on the rear element. I bought the Yongnuo 35mm a couple years back, put it on my 5D II (gives a bit of a ballpark date), and was horrified at the softness of the image—how could they sell a lens in this condition, it looks like I'm photographing through a plastic bottle! I chucked it in a drawer and didn't think about it for a few years, then on a whim, got it out of its box, took off the rear lens cap, and felt like a bit of an idiot not to notice that it still had the plastic bit on. It's not a bad little lens if you remember to take the plastic off—I also find that my pictures look better if I take off the lens cap :)

Actually, I prefer it to 50mm stm, went with this one having tested both side by side. Did anyone else notice the focus shift it suffers from, or is it just my copy?

I have the mk1 version of this lens and it's not good, does not focus where it should, I am going to pay the extra and get the canon 50mm f1.8 stm today.
I think it worth the money. And yep. The red ring. It wouldn't bother me because it matches with the official Canon strap's color :D

Its been noted by multiple people, the CANON version is rated less favorably then the NIKON version. If you are considering this lens, make sure you get test photos from the version of camera you have. Maybe you'll find it acceptable onthe nikon but not on the canon. But for the price, 50$, you really cant complain at all. Its for people looking to dip there toe and expirement with a low aperture lens for a small price. After that, maybe youll invest in a more expensive version that is around double to triple the price

so i can buy both of them one for my full frame and one for my crop sensor
i have another question which one is better to have 50mm 1.8 or the 50mm 1.4 or do i buy the both of them or i only need one help me out cause they're cheap. my next door neighbor have a camera bag with 10 lens in it and he said he spend over 25,000 dollars and i was holding my head i think i only need 4 lens and call it a day. i can buy an expensive lens and don't know how to use it then i'm screwed and i don't waste money like that. here's what people are telling me they said i need a 24-70 f2.8 17-50 f2.8 and 50mm 1.8 and 18-35 f1.8 cause i already have a zoom lens. remember now my camera doesn't have video so i will get another camera that can shoot video and i will have lenses already.

Canon is sharp and has more contrast and MTF. (see 8:27). Any firmware upgrade risks that the YN lens will no longer be recognized on your camera. YN pays no royalty to Canon, it's just a low cost pirated brand.
