School flute (first time I´ve seen it´s called RECORDER) is one of the easiests insturments to learn. Left hand at the upper side, right hand at the lower. You hold the instrument against your lips and the thumb of your right hand. The thumb of your left hand covers the hole in the opposite side (bottom) near to the mouthpiece. You will use your four fingers to cover all the eight holes. From the nearest to the mouthpiece, the first hole is covered with your left hand index, then middle, then ring finger. Left pinky is not used. Then right hand index, middle, ring and pinky. For easy reach, the third piece of the recorder is slightly turned to be covered with the right hand pinky. Be sure to cover the two holes at the same time. Opening just one would result in a semitone. All holes covered (with the left thumb hole covered aswell) is F, and opening one hole at a time would give the next note (down to up) G,A,B,C,D,E,F,. To obtain the next F (one octave higher ) you havE to keep covered the left thumb hole, open the left index hole and cover the middle finger hole. Easy.
I bought this same one a few years ago. Just really started learning again by starting on the soprano Yamaha. I also sent for the newer Yamaha Alto in ebony look plastic. You're like me. I got started on the guitar, then ukulele, mandolin, violin, now the recorder. Oh, and piano/keyboard. I'm thinking about getting an Irish tin whistle.
Yo una vez tuve ese modelo pero no me gustó. Prefiero los de la línea 300 o 400. En los modelos de la línea 200 (o 20), el canal de aire se ensucia muy rápido y a las pocas notas ya hay que estar limpiando la flauta. No digo que la flauta sea mala, pero se ensucia muy rápido, en comparación a las líneas de la serie 300 y 400, en donde hay una notable mejora en la calidad y emisión del sonido

I'm sure you played on a smaller soprano but it is fortunate that you acquired an alto recorder. They play lower and take a little of the squeak out. Turn the bottom joint as only one hole is in the back. I have a video with this particular recorder. I am not the best but I would recommend looking up Sarah jeffreys or team recorder for recorder tips from a professional recorder player

He keeps saying you need an alto and a soprano. I have an alto. A Yamahah YRA-302-B. I don't have a soprano, and I really don't want one. Now this is just me, but I find the tone on a soprano to be way too high. It is not pleasing to *my* ears. Maybe it's the way I play it, but it sounded rather shrill, and I was holding back my breath when I played it. I learned the basics on the soprano, but I find the alto to be much more pleasing; *to me*.
Well my flute cost 10$and im good on it too.

I bought the latest 400 series Yamaha, which is made with a largely plant-based plastic which is supposed to give woodlike resonance. I am quite convinced that everything Yamaha makes is good and underpriced.
Yamaha sounds more rich/full and louder

The Yamahas are the best you can get in plastic. They have the new 400 series that is made from an organic plant based plastic that sounds more like wood and it's a nice buttery yellow color.
Te recomiendo la flauta Zen On contralto de resina abs, es la mejor. La Yamaha es buena en el registro de tenor.

Ferris is a brand that is known as a provider of descant recorders for schools - singly or in packs of 10, 50, 100 etc. Multicoloured and cheap - but very playable, as you showed with your very early alto model. (Presumably an ensemble of Ferris recorders WILL play in tune with each other). You can, of course, slightly adjust the tuning of a recorder by moving the mouthpiece end SLIGHTLY further away from the main body. Ferris also sell the other main sizes of recorder.
