I have a Yamaha r-s202 in my bedroom and I love it. Also yes, the 2-step intervals and the time controls (bass/treble) DO stand for the amount of decibels it's boosting or attenuating

Also too i might add that it only has one monitoring loop so if you want to record something to say like a Cd-recorder or sd recorder you can only have one connected. And don't get any speaker wire bigger then 14 gauge because it won't fit in the terminals (straight wire connectors). I made the mistake in buying that gauge of speaker wire and it almost doesn't fit / It doesn't fit to well. And he wasn't kidding about the vol. It doesn't go very high at all. You have to turn the unit almost to 35-50 to hear low recorded sources. But then again what did you expect from a $149 unit etc. But i like it still just the same so far. I connected my laptop to mine via the Bluetooth and now i can listen to some music from across the room in my favorite chair or sit on my bed etc..

Great review. Although without any doubt it is a stereo receiver that hits way above its price tag. I have emotiva a 100, this one and I can say I prefer being lazy and going with Yamaha. Bluetooth. Spotify premium and yt premium. Paired with Jamo Studios 626 floor standers, in a 27 square meters room. Amazing sound. 50 dbs to a max 55. This amp and Jamos studios or concert C93s. Better than ma bronze speakers. Highly recommended.

Hi Nemo. Your review helped me to buy this basic receiver. I’m using it in my garage for streaming music so no expectations of hi-end sound from a $150.00 receiver. I just want good clean sound at moderate volumes with average speakers. Yes, I know, even that expectation is high at this price point. I think a lot of users are spoiled. They want Champagne performance at a MD20/20 price. I hope this will be a decent performer that will last for a while. It’s $150.00 with Bluetooth hand two speaker channels for goodness sakes!!!

Warning: the headphone amps on the consumer grade Yamaha stuff (up to $1000) are awful. They sound like a heavy loudness contour is applied to them, making them sound much too fat. My bet is that they’re not discrete and are instead stepped down from the speaker amps with heavy tone changes applied.

I have the RN303. Not the RS202. The 202 is the cheap version of the 303, just for the record. So when I talk about my 303 it’s the same as talking about the 202 pretty much. I love my RN303. I’d say it’s sort of a Jack of All Trades, Master if None. I like that it has a radio tuner built into it and comes with its own antenna. I like that it has Bluetooth. Very simple to use click right or left to change from your CD, PHONO, etc. and just turn the volume knob. The simple Bass and Treble EQ works great. Specifically as an all around bass booster for every part of the song. Mainly the Kick drum and Bass. Overall it is extremely simple. Considering how much it packs inside of it. Yes the 303 has more features than the 202. That’s what an extra 250-300 spending will get you. More features, better quality ports, and better parts. One downside to these Yamaha receivers is if you can’t play through both channels A&B at the same time. You have to switch off your A-set of speakers to hear your B-set, and vice versa. Same goes for plugging in headphones. Can’t have headphones plugged in at the same time your speakers are playing. One will cut out the other, allowing you only one channel at a time. BESIDES THAT ONE MORE THING. Make sure your speakers, CD Player, Equalizer, Phono, etc. ARE COMPATIBLE with these Yamaha receivers. They aren’t the most Versatile. These are my first impressions and review after a year with a Yamaha RN303.

It's a nice entry level receiver selling at around $149.00 - $200.00 U.S dollar . What it is lacking though is low end. The Frequency Response is 40 - 20000 kHz. 100 watts per channel is listed in the specs. If they would have made the response lower it would be a much better receiver. Would also be nice if had regular knobs for the bass and treble so you can fine tune them instead of the push button that it has. I listen to mostly 60s and 70s classic rock and this receiver with it's base turned up to 8 doesn't even get my woofers moving like on my previous receiver did which is a JVC that is ratted at 40 watts. I have since gotten a Yamaha A S501 which runs around $549.00 U.S dollar 85 watts per channel 20-20,000 Hz. The 501 blows the 202 away. I would suggest saving your $$$ and getting a as 501 or even a 301which runs around $349.00 60 Watts per channel 20 Hz - 20 kHz. Yes the Bluetooth is a nice feature on the 202 that the 501 or 301 does not have but you can easily purchase a small Bluetooth receiver and hook it up. I purchased on off of ebay new for less than a McDonalds combo meal that works great.

I We recently disconnected and reconnected the system, it connects to the house speakers in the ceiling. But after reconnecting up the first time we just tried you today the Bluetooth won’t connect, it also seems that there is a standby mode kept on. Whether entire system is on or not. So I cannot connect my Bluetooth on my phone to play music for the family
