How does this guitar sound playing country
Nice loose playing and great tones you're coaxing outa that low end budget ax. I just scored an FG800 slightly used (like less than a year old and hardly ever played) for $120. The action is a bit high above fret 7 so gonna hafta go in and adjust. It also needs fresh strings as the orig factories are still on there...Martin Marquis's outa do it!
Jake: A lotta BG tunes have run under the bridge since I bought my Yamaha FG800 months ago. I used it for trading collateral for a Martin Dread. Yesterday I bought 1 of the only 2 FG800's in stock in my city. Ft Worth Texas. Like hooking up with an ole pal.got it home and tuned it to 440. And I'm off to the races. My son and I both bought Yamaha FG830's. Peronally I prefer the 800 to the 830. Selling the 830 was easy. It's in great demand nowadays. IMHO both guitars are huge bang fer tha buck guitars. Our BG band is having a parlor picking session tomorrow. Mr FG800 will be there with bells on. Am I hauling water fo the F Series Yamahas? You betcha I am.

Drew. What is a shamwow? The only misgiving I have with the FG800 is there is no strap button attached at their factory. I just installed a black boot lace near the nut and strap works fine. I didn't want to drill a hole in the neck for the strap button anyway. Button is only approx $11.00 so it wasn't the cost of the strap button

Frist off I'l cover the what if's.. My son owns the FG830 and I own an Epiphone copy of the Gibson J45. I thot the Epi AJ45S and I were pals for life. But the Epi really strained to be heard over the 5 string banjos in our BG club. I took my sons Yamaha FG830 and it could be heard better. In the absence of better evidence I'm pretty sure an FG800 could be as well as a FG830 and better than my Epihone. For that reason I'm buying an FG800 tomorrow and putting the Epi on the sales block by this weekend. I can sell the Epi to another BG club member.Epi had Sustain, punch but no volume sad to say.

I dont know. But it sounds a bit muddy to me.
I've had mine for a couple months now, and am 110% delighted. I know, it's marketed as a "beginner's guitar" but I'm damned if I know why. I've been playing (not all that well!) since 1970, so I've been through a few guitars. I ordered off Amazon, mine came from Chicago Music Exchange, and I was so thoroughly impressed that I called Chicago to thank 'em. Is the Yammie as fine and fancy as a Martin D35? Probably not. Will it hold its own very nicely, jamming along with a D35? Yes. It's that good. Tone and volume are excellent.

Quick question man, I’ve been getting into bluegrass and I thought I had settled on the fg820 but I can’t find them anywhere they’re all sold out but there are fg800s for sale everywhere what are your thoughts on the 2? Would this play bluegrass well cause I know it’s branded a folk guitar cheers!

Ordinarily I would never buy anything made in communist China, but after testing the FG800 a couple of years ago, I had to pick one up. Yamaha indeed does keep good quality control standards as this is a well made guitar. Everything that this gentleman said in this video is true. It's a really good guitar. Excellent value for money. Can't beat it

I've been through a few guitars since 1972. It's been a long time since I encountered a guitar I really "fell in love with," but to my surprise that's exactly what happened. Got an FG800 in "vintage finish," which seems to be harder to find. When it arrived, I was amazed at the total quality of all aspects; it looked gorgeous, played really well (though I did have the action lowered a smidge, just to suit me) and sounds like a much larger Dreadnaught. It wouldn't be drowned out, nor out of place, jamming with Martins or Taylors. Or anything else!

Great video! How loud is Yamaha FG800? At this moment I'm playing classical guitar, but I want to switch to acoustic one, however I'm worried that I will disturb other people with my guitar practice. I find classical guitar pretty quiet and I'm not sure how much louder acoustic guitar is compared to classical. I heard about feedback busters, but I don't know if they would solve my issue. Are there any other methods to make acoustic guitar quieter? To what degree do you think that feedback buster would solve my issue? Nice sound with that guitar man, you can tell when a player genuinely appreciates the craftsmanship of the instrument, regardless of brand, price or who famous has played one. I'm sure it ads a little extra dimension to the playing. Thumbs up from me 👍
This guitar is not only good for beginners or for those who do not want to risk breaking their expensive guitar, it is better for every Mexican line by Martin and Taylor.
What strings?
Me and part of my crew (Myself, my son. and his son) all own and play Yamahas. Mine is the FG800 Son FG830 and his son F335. Only complaint I have is there is no factory strap button.I attached a heavy boot string to the strap and looped it thru the head stock by the nut. I checked with 2 local luthiers as to whether or not to install ebony bridge pins and bone nut and saddle (after market) Both said OEM pins, saddle and nut sound almost the same as after market accessories.

It does NOT have mahogany sides and back. It’s not even solid, it’s laminated Nato/Okume (nato is from a tree called mora). This is according to Yamaha’s web site. If you think you can get a solid mahogany guitar for $200 you’re kidding yourself

thanks for playing the same thing in the fg / fs videos . allows a better comparison in sound between the two. low notes / frequencies really sound better and stand out on this fg
that green label iz stupid looking and that flower on the top. serious listen to me !hahahah i wouldnt even look at one of these because of this stupid looking flower, i like yamaha . the label should have been a knockoff of the red label .
Look at all the grey sound absorbers on the wall.....make the sound reflect really great...,,,all this guitar need is a set up or lower the Action n ur good to go.....

Hello. I bought my FG800 from my local Guitar Center yesterday. Entered the store desiring a Yamaha FG830. But not unexpectedly GC stores in a 50 mile radius WERE SOLD OUT!!!! So I tried the FG800. My son owns an FG830 and wont sell it to me (imagine not wanting to sell the best selling Yamaha?) FG800 has a slightly lighter tone than the 830 as well. Surprising great volume. I've played bluegrass for 44+ years but this guitar is not amped. No pickup, But in bluegrass genre pickups are superfulous. We just play into the mic. I own a Martin but traded a higher calibre Epiphone in on the FG800. Salesman couldnt understand why? Epiphone just can't be heard over a 5 string banjo some of the time performing at a gig.

The action on this is pretty high.. as a beginner guitar I found it hurts more to plan than some of the older versions from Yamaha
