That 200-600 is my new favourite lens. I've taken it out to Inglewood Bird Sanctuary and Frank Lake recently and I am just falling in love with it. It takes absolutely gorgeous bird shots, especially of birds in flight. It tricks me into thinking I'm a better wildlife photographer than I am lol

No one uses a 600mm at these types of events. The 400mm 2.8 is the go to lens.

Instead of the 600 f4 youre probably better off getting the 400 2.8 and some converters?
Around 1:38 it sounds like you're saying the light isn't very bright in the stadium, so you're having to shoot at 4000 ISO. But your shutter speed is at 1/1000 at 347mm. Do you have to shoot soccer that fast? I would have thought you could shoot cut the shutter speed in half, to 1/500, which would allow you to cut the ISO in half, to 2000. Forgive me if I'm missing something. I'm only been doing this about a year now. You said "that's where Barney is probably doing better with that f/4 aperture." I get that the settings were probably for 600mm and then you had to zoom out to 347mm for this shot, but it still seems like the shutter speed and ISO could almost be cut in half to offer you the same light. Am I missing something?
Do you think that with this lens we can take pictures of correct sports at night ... in a properly lit stadium, I want to associate it with an a7iii or an a7riii.? Thank you
Yep, as I slowly age I wonder how much longer I will be carting a 600 f/4 Nikon around with me but, I'm not ready to admit defeat just yet :-)

Received my copy a week ago. All I can say so far is: This lens ins incredible, results did blow my mind :-)
Hey Sony :) I am still waiting for some light and more compact prime tele lenses like fx 300mm 4.0, 400mm 4.5 and 500mm 5,6, it will also be superb with 1.4x and 2x GM teleconverters for the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM Lens ! I will also like to se compact prime GM landscape lenses for the Sony A7R4 camera ! Even macro prime lenses without stabilizer and autofocus. Thank you very much.

Nice!!! If I spent $20000AUD on a len i would be make a box opening video as well :D If your ever strap for video ideas, test the lens out for astrophotography, I very keen to see how it performs in that usage case, that will really test how sharp the lens is edge to edge.

Had no idea that wildlife shooters are making so much money.
Would love someone that has the gear Sony and Nikon to try and do a review on the plausibility of a Nikon to Sony adaptor......I currently use Nikon and have just invested in the Nikkor 500f5.6 PF prime lens but would love to have the current Sony A9...but not wanting to fully jump brands from Nikon to Sony....... BUT if an adaptor worked for the 500PF on the A9 then that might be a gradual crossover before going full Sony down the track........

For most folks I would say this is may be too much glass but you will wring every bit of "oh boy!" outta that beauty. Looking forward to what you'll be able to do.

VF image is a tenth of a second behind and that caused you to lose thd bird? I don't think so. The tiny AoV at 1200mm is the problem.Nothing else can track a tern against a busy background? You need to dust off your D500.

Switching? Hell no. Sonys first version. Why? When I can by Canons version iii. Sony AF sucks even on A9.
You said two things I wonser about.1) A9 + Sony 600/4 + TC2 is better (in resolution or speed and ability to focus because the actual aperture is f=8 or what?) than Nikon D850 + Nikkor 600/4 (latest version I hope - E FL lens) + TC2. Nevertheless I will argue for a less optical quality on Nikon's TC2 compared to Sony's TC2 and Canons TC2 as well.2) You said that A9's 24 Mp sensor isn't enough when using the lens + TC2!I will say that you on the contrary get more blur problems when shooting with such high focus lengths as 1200 mm if you use a 45 or 50 Mp sensor compared to a 24 Mp. As a nature photographer you certainly don't need a high resolution sensor what ever high technology there is in the camera as a whole, the sensor or in the camera computer. And that is if you only look at the resolution and the ability to get pin sharp pics. Not to speak about dynamic range, bit rate maybe and color range.Otherwise a superb information from you, thanks. You are brilliant. Maybe a little too fast talking for a foreigner ... ;-)
