From my experience using it on mobile, it does not back up contacts, sms, apps, music files, or any other files (excluding pictures & videos) directly on the device.

Hi. Is there any possibility to have Plex server on this appareil? I have a Samsung tv that accept multimedia contents only if one drive is connected directly to usb on TV or by the Plex app. But I can't find how to install Plex on this WD my cloud. Thank you for your help. Marco

After backup when I delete a file from my computer which I don't want any more, it doesn't delete from the WD backup when I backup it afterwards. I don't want the deleted file in my backup and I want my external hard drive to sync with my computer automatically because manually selecting and deleting a file from the back also is very irritating. I give up searching for a wireless external hard drive. After just watching this video for 36 seconds, I gave up. "It has to be wired to your network" Yes, if that was just that easy. What about us with mobile internet, or what it is called. The broadband solutions you can buy from telephone companies, where you put a sim card into a small portable router, and have a monthly limitation of so and so many gigabytes depending on which package you bought. How on earth are we supposed to use this WD-cloud-thing? No, not possible. Why can't someone make an external hard drive that can be used wirelessly, without any router? It should be really easy. Printers work like that today, they show up in the list of available networks, and you connect to it. Easy as that. But external hard drives, no, I have not found a single one out there with a usable wireless solution, or bluetooth or whatever other than cables attached to your computer or router. If I buy one of the old fashioned cable wired external hard drives, how on earth am I supposed to use the program Time Machine for my Macbook to automatically backup every hour? It is not possible. I have a laptop, not a stationary. So no, that is not an option at all to have that clumpy mess hanging down from my Macbook 24/7, day out and day in. I wish companies producing external hard drives could move away from their 1970's technology and into the modern 2020's.

I purchased this back in 14 and just about 4 weeks ago i LOST access to the WD Drive anytime i try to access it from OUTSIDE my home network . Cellular data or outside WiFi i can't get to it from any phone or laptop . I can ONLY access it from my home network .

Long Term Review: If you're thinking about buying any of the WD MyCloud products I'd recommend just deleting all of your important data now and forgo buying a MyCloud to save you the time and money up front. These are unequivocally the worst designed Home-NAS boxes on the market. They work well for the first year or so, but once they go through regular use (normal copy/paste data over and over) the file system starts to fall to pieces. When they start to fail, and believe me they do, about 1 in 5 (look it up the internet is full of thousands and thousands of horror stories) there is no way to recover your data because of the proprietary file system and dashboard Western Digital uses. I'm surprised there hasn't been a class action lawsuit yet.
I have couple of those drives and I can not figure out how to get rid of public share. anybody on the same network can store files on this drive. I consider this a security problem. someone very easily can simply put trash on this share and use all the usable space. I would like to make it exclusive, contacted wd and they told me it can not be done. Once the drive is connected to the network anybody can use it locally

Please don't take this the wrong way but please stop referring to things as cat5 First of all that ethernet cable you're using must be at least cat5e minimum, large difference and the ports are not called cat5 either they're called RJ45 sockets for ethernet connections. :)

.much cheaper variant 8 tb ! This drive requires it be wired to a wifi router, the router connect to internet, and wifi active. You cannot wire it via ethernet either directly to a computer or via a LAN to control it or access data. So, no wifi and/or internet = no access to your data. AND even worse . any search function is limited ONLY to folders - NOT the files in the folders. Thus it stores lots of files you cannot find by name, size, type or date etc. Idiotic!

WD have not made it very clear that the devie is NOT a NAS. From their website "Unlike a NAS, it's a simple centralized solution to back up your photos, videos and files, and have it stored in one place. With the My Cloud Home app, you can access, upload and share your content from anywhere with an internet connection."
I've just bought one second hand. They claimed it had never been used - but there was already an account set up on it. Not too difficult to rest - but the setup seems nothing like I expect a NAS device to be. Still looking to find how to configure a static IP address on it. Seems you cannot set a staic IP. This is the first ever "NAS" that I have come accross that does not allow static IP. Also the WD App is not supported on Android 4.4.2. Initial impressions are very poor for a claimed NAS device. Seems like too much emphasis on mobile access and they've forgotten the LAN aspects. Synology all the way for NAS devices for me. At least I get a "new" 6TB disk for £80. The software is miles from what I would expect a proper NAS to be capable of. Obviously Synology have "spoiled" me. In "Dragons Den" terms - If this is the future of WD NAS's - then I'm out.

Just a heads up to anyone who stumbles across this video. The MyCloud HOME does NOT work over a LAN. It only works through the web. If you have no internet, the drive is useless.
Catastrophic product! User interface is completely counter intuitive, it is the slow to the point it is unusable on wifi, and you cannot connect it directly to your computer unless you are an IT engineer! This product is a real piece of junk. I paid a lot of money and now it sits in the bottom of my drawer. Best advice is to stay away

THE DATA IS ENCODED IN LINUX AND ONE CANNOT COPY IT TO ANOTHER DRIVE. IN MY CASE THE POWER SUPPLY DIED. THEY REFUSED TO SELL ME THE FAILED PART,! I STRONGLY RECOMMEND AGAINST BUYIN MYCLOUD!

A complete wast of money! Nothing for 'Linux' users. I should have spent my money on my Linux Cloud Not a "How to use guide" 4:50 of dribble. Just 18 seconds on drag and drop for Windows and Mac, useless!
I hate this WD so much! everytime I try to use it, I need at least 2 hours to get to the dashboards UI, cause I need to be looking for the Q#$%@#$% IP, remap! The App is useless! I have had it for 4 years and I am very disappointed at the interface. Honestly I was expecting much more from this company and product! definitively do not recommend it!
How do I save a movie file on my phone using the WD Cloud My Home mobile App. It seems one of my file I can't save on my phone option is not there. Is it because, it is a .MOV file type?
