I got a old *Buffalo* 3tb and works fast and great, but they don't make it no more, plus I have a bad experience with this brand( *WD* ), 3 years ago, (was passports Hard Drive), I just need for storage!! I bought an external drive 2tb. I got a shortcut in my C drive that loads files in my external drives. It takes 10 seconds before it will load it. Also time to time very often, my external drive files takes 10 seconds to open. My pc can play recent games max settings mostly. my external drive is my passport wd, which I know it's a good one too. Also my external drive is 3.0 blue one. The line is very short. I've read the crazy long ones get slowed down.

Hi Roberto. I'd like to buy the 16TB version but... I am not sure because I want to use it in RAID1 and WD explains that every time that you remove the 2nd HDD and insert it again the mirroring will start from the begin. I think this is pretty stupid because if for safety reason I want to remove the second HDD and keep it in another place and do my backup only once a week should be perfect only if inserting it again the mirroring was incremental. I also do not understand if the encryption is forced or you can choose it to activate or not, because it seams the encryption is connected to the enclosure and if it breaks I remain with all my data encrypted. So I lost them. It would be good if I could remove the HDD and just put in a computer and find again my data. Is it possible or not?

Hey Roberto : I'm not ready to spend a whole lot on a SSD drive, but still want speed and portability as I work on a MacBook Pro mainly. Would this drive work well for someone who does mainly print work but needs to edit 4K video from time to time or is it not great because of the fact that it isn't bus powered? Thanks so much.
my only complaint about this drive is you can't power it off with a switch, you have to use their software to do it. this is on the new model of the my book

3:16 the specific "file system" for Mac is "HFS" the one for windows is "NTFS" If it was formatted in HFS windows cant read it, if in NTFS mac cant write to it. Chose one or the other. WD could format it to exFAT but its not super compatible or FAT32 but that allows for a maximum file size of 4GB... There is really NOTHING that WD can do about that, unless they sell a Mac specific Drive. "YOU" however can do something about it by installing a utility like: "Tuxera NTFS" or "Paragon NTFS"
If you buy this exact mybook -- TAKE THE HARD DRIVE OUT and use a generic controller (a generic usb 3.0 external hard drive enclosure or quick swap) --- the controller on the mybook really sucks - and the only way to fix it if you bump it just a little, is to buy an entire new mybook 4tb with the same product number as the one you have. If you don't, you lose EVERYTHING on the hard drive. I learned the hard way and lost a lot of photos and video. good hard drive - crappy enclosure and controller board.. oh and if you dont get the password right 5 times - it will format the hard drive - i give it a 1.5 out of 100 stars. I hope this helps someone out there! If so - comment or give this a like!

I would NOT recommend this product. I purchased 1 March of 2017, it worked great for the 1st year, I was able to access it via Phn app which was a great thing and THEN around June of 2019 the blue led light started flickering which was very noticeable then It started flickering blue...I called WD support and we tried to get it back on line with NO luck, I asked what my options were about getting this product back online, well I was told by their support that I would have to contact an Outside business to crack and retrieve the hard drive and retrieve my information......Not GOOD & EXPENCIVE....Oh and by the way all this hard drive did was sit in a corner of my office, was NEVER dropped, Kicked or abused just stopped working...???

Just purchased the newer version of My Book 4TB - NOT WORKING AT ALL, not recognised by either of 2 computers, wasted hours trying to sort it out. This was my fifth WD external hard drive - all the others worked OK. WASTE OF MY MONEY!
The hard drive is not full 4 TB be cause windows calculates in GiB not GB, if you plug it into linux it says 4 TB :)

Any performance difference between this and wd passbook ultra? I'm planning to buy 2tb one for keeping system image of my 1tb internal hdd which contains everything and is critical for me because two times i have lost my whole 500gb data which included my bros wedding photos and my important programs. It takes me 4-5 days to bring my pc back to normal in such cases that's why i have decided to go with a 2tb beast.

Can you make a video about the power button behavior? Or just answer in comments... If you turn off the drive, and then turn off the computer. When after a while you turn on the computer again (with the drive connected to computer's usb port) will the drive automatically turn on with computer? Or will you need to press the power button on the back of the drive in order to power it on? And does the power button need a special WD software in order to work properly?
Weird. I just bought one of these. But mine has no power button. It just turns on and off with my computer. And I can't believe how cool it stays, even after hours and hours of use. My HP Personal Media Drive always gets really hot when it's on. Very different from this MyBook.
