Debating between the two, i went with WD Blue, was on sale for 85 bucks, i put my games on the blue and everything else as its serves as storage. Games run pretty good on blue, not insane on load times but it is consistent. Pretty happy with purchase. Seagate definitely owns up with that 40mb/s and larger cache. Blue is well rounded.
"The cheapest one"Nice, the most realistic opinion
Thanks great video
im thinking about maybe building my own pc but im still learning a lot of things and understanding. so im on a website pc part picker (im also in canada so in cad) and im picking parts i think are good and what i want but also in a budget. ive read a lot of the comments here and your replies. whats the difference of using storage for the operating system and for games and stuff? i will have games on my pc if i build one. should i be picking 2 of them, one for the operating system and one for games and storage? what about ssd? should the operating system be using ssd? and hdd for games and storage?
If I'm not wrong the Seagate Barracuda ST4000DM004 used in the video is SMR technology. If so, that's a deal breaker for me. Nice comparison though. Thanks
Nice review
Quick question are these hard drives sector size 4096? Getting one so I can move the OS from my other 4096. I need them to be compatible. Had trouble with some that were size 512
Excellent review and well explained, thanks mate!
Would be nice to know if they are cmr/smr drives, for some reason I think the Seagate is smr since its thinner.
Using hdd's in docking stations heat up more and slower data speeds but ok4tb inside pc case with a fan near faster 5400 vs 7200 < gets louder when R/W's 256 cache vs 64 cache ? only see on 8tb hdd in oz
i ordered the baracuda to replace my 2 1tb hard drives which i have been using for 10 years or so.the whole tower vibrates since 2 computers with the old hard drives hehe
my first hdd was western digital blue 256gb it still living even after ten years, should i buy another western digital products or seagate? cuz seagate have 256mb cache, and western digital only have 64mb cache and it price way higher than seagate...
Dude you speak too slow
Are there no 4tb 7200 hard drives?
I'm actually thinking of buying a Western digital for college studies at IT school in 2-d Animation, editing and filmmaking. I bought the Seagate expansion external hard drive in the past on sale at walmart but it only lasted for 1-2 years. Mostly I carried back and forth to school. Sadly one day while editing my project my hard drive fell on the ground took a toll on my Seagate expansion. The armor was damaged but not the disk. We had to buy a new case for the disk. The next semester at my university I was trying to do sound design and animation. For some reason I had the writing errors on my hard drive that wouldn't go away. I went to my university and they told me my hard drive was a goner. All of my hard work and projects were on that hard drive. Now I'm going to have to go to the electronics store to find out if the hard drive even works still or if the disk is finally damaged. I'm now trying to buy a "WD My Passport 4TB Black Portable Hard Drive WDBPKJ0040BBK-WESN" on Ebay. Honestly any good tb hard drive would work for me to back up all my large projects. Guy seems to have a 100% rating and reviews but after searching through stores I'm not sure what other options I have
I have changed Seagate hard drives every year but the wd I got 10 years back is still rocking. if you want a longer life span go for WD, and you cannot trust Seagate,as I have 5-6 seagate HDDs with me which stopped working. also the other seagate right now is making sounds and it will stop soon.
which one is quieter and silent?
help, which one i should use for gamingfor ex : 1HDD with 5400 RPM 64 MB cache , 2HDD With 5400RPM 128Mb cachehelp i need answer and explain thanks.
Excellent video. Thanks.

cheap seagate and wd = smr . . . and smr sucks.
Thanks.
I only have WD blue hard drives in my system as of now, and they are fast for 1TB and 4TB drives.
nice.
I have 4 TB in HDDs and 1 TB in SSD

The microphone was not the same distance away making that test meaningless
just get 4tb sshd guys
get now your 4TB 3.0 hard driver https://www.ebay.com/itm/392813311014
I still have a 36gb raptor.. omg. I had 2 but the other didn't make it...I go with iron wolf pro drives now
As to power I see another info in datashit of 4TB WD Blue WD40EZRZ : read/write - 4.5 , idle - 2.9 , standby -0.4 . Did you measured it?
Actually, the WD Black 4 TB has 256 MB cache, not 128 MB.I have the model WD4005FZBX.
I have WD raptor 10000 rpms window 7 gave the same performance score as a WD 7200, its fucken louder the a 7200 WD plus 150 gigs is nothing today. 10000 rpms was a waste and didn't last long.
Thank you very much
I usually avoid green drives that power down frequently. It does not do me or the drive any good to have it doing that. If anything it would not only shorten the drive's life but annoy me. There is no need for that and it is not like having these turn off is going to make you wealthy from all the power you didn't have to use and thus pay for. Some people may want them but I don't. They are junk and nothing more.
the accent and the background musici like them. especially together.
Thanks a lot for the reviews, but you didn't give the noise of WD black,Here is one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6T4oS3ggoYFor people who are considering on buying WD black 6TB, don't even think about it, I don't know if 4TB WD black has the same problem but 6 TB one will make you hate your life, it has really bad clicking noise every 5 sec due to new feature called "WLT", nothing like I have ever seen from any HDD in my entire life you can even physically feel the vibration in the case each it clicks. google about it and you will see all the people complaining about it. I wish I know about it before I bought one.Now I'm considering using it as a backup HDD so I remove it from my PC, for now, I removed it and I put it on top of a sponge outside of my case, It was driving me crazy. so get yourself a blue instead.Btw the 6TB WD black, it has really bad behavior, you can't access the drive like play a movie from the drive while you are doing backup copy from it to another drive. I never had such problem with any other drive, and the speed is not real, once you write some GB to it, the speed is ~ 180MB which is only ~ +20MB from the rest of the drives, so it's not worth it at all.
These 4TB drives have sticker shock! Would some of the read/write comparisons be about tge same for laptop HDDs? Thanks for the share
Are Toshiba HDDs good?
WD seems to be more durable than the Seagate!
My wd blue has 190 read and 185 write, and they are quiet and "fast" for hdd,i used seagate drives, they was loud, slow and not reliable,3 hards in 1 year i rma because they started dissapearing, getting loud, and dead sound
Nice video
I want to eat this hard drives along with packet
Great video ,Myself using WD Blue 500mb HD several of them bought on eBay second hand due to being on a tight budget .They are really good drives and suits my needs. Did have just the one large drive until it failed and lost most of my work. Now i just buy several cheap drives these days and double up important files and haven't lost anything to date . Learnt the hard way. Trying to buy a hard drive rack so its like a book shelf is imposable so going to make one out of wood as my collection of drives is starting to grow. The main thing is they perform well and my data is safe. Use to do all my editing on ssd until they started to slow down due to the constant writing 4k files worn them out. Now only use the ssd for the os and the software, the rest is mechanical drives
This is not a review.
I still use these drive's for video editing rather than wearing out the SSD with continuous writes just redirect the editing software to store on the external drive works perfectly for my 4k video editing.infact just ordered some more used drives from eBay as they are so reliable they tend to just keep going regardless the amount of writes.SSD learnt the hard way,was using p SSD drives Purley for everything then I had a couple go down and lost all data. Mechanical drive's are so reliable if you treat them gentle will last many years,If they get corrupted or start to fail data is much easier to recover than ssd.Have just sold some old drives back from 2006 that still work fine but the technology at that time with energy and the heat and noise they produce is not good.I would say anything from 2011 onwards will be fine
is it still suitable for gaming pc in 2021
Support ps4 ?
Did it contained mounting screws ?
I like it for moving games around. Put games Im playing often on ssd and push the rest a hard drive. Id rather do that than downloading the same game over and over
can i use this video for footage?
I have a new hard disk like this, and I regulary hear a click like every 1-5 minutes (depends on how activ you use the pc), like you would snip with your fingernails, is this normal?
Top notch content my dude!
can i use this video for footage?
could I play older games from around 2005 - 2010 with such a HDD? I have one lying around.
What about gaming?
A ssd costs 3 times the cost of a hdd and i have to get new ram new mobo new processor to work with a nvme ssd. So no thank u i will buy a hdd instead.
raid zero them and test for gaming.
Quality VideoBut I use a 512 gb ssd & 2 tb hdd (5400 rpm)
because of the feelings in your leggs. I hate ssd, it's as if you were crippled.
Anyone know bout Mdd? Maxdigitaldrives if so how are they will it last longevity
5 or more years later.... quite outdated video.
me from 2021...." Don't buy HDD, Buy SSD !!! "
And about gold, what's so better in it against the black?
Thank you so much, you helped me a lot!
what one would be the best for imacs?
What a bunch of BS
You don't talk about Green and Gold?
Does this mean that purple is the most reliable of them all? I just care about reliability, longevity...
Black it is
What
Ok, so nice explanation of the manufactures definitions, however, I think the application of the labeling is just that of marketing. Had you done some data tests, I would be more impressed. All of these drives should have specs. The specs and warrantee period is what matters $$$. Performance tests, I would say should include loading as well as speed and not just file transfer but multiple transfers and multiple users accessing. This is where specs matter. 5400, 7200, 10,000 15,000. number of heads, SATA vs SCSI and finally life expectancy.
Which color elements is best for gaming if one wanna have it on often and want to put big games aaa ones on em?
im gonna do the unthinkable and use the wd purple for gaming hehe
I'm gamimg on WD purple just fine
You supplied the application of the various drives. In no way explain the make-up or it becomes better suited for that application. In depth review of components is required. Unsat.
WD is the most popular drives out there but I would stay away from them in my personal bias opinion. I've personally had to many issues with WD.. And make sure you back up you stuff folks don't be like me and lose all your data.
Can a purple be used in a desktop pc as extra storage? And can it be turned on and off?
Don't forget WD green and WD gold! why don't they just make a WD rainbow because why not?
1 have 2 WD blue drives. I think WD makes the best hard drives
