Love an author who trims the fat
I was already going to read the Elizabeth Kolbert, but now I have to read the Bill Gates too! 😆 Yes to detailed science and industry stuff!

When it comes to Bill Gates, my tendency is to listen to him when it comes to huge, potentially life changing topics based on what he did at Microsoft. He obviously changed the world with that.
The Sixth Extinction is one of my favorite books of all time. I love Elizabeth Kolbert's writing. I am definitely reading this new book.
I had no interest in the Gates book but you did get me interested. I'm always skeptical of climate change books bc there are so many and I wonder how much each actually adds to the conversation.

I took a similar Natural Resource Economics class but don't have the same memory of its focus...so not sure if this is the book for me...may just be allergic to paying Bill Gates money. ☹️

here's the thing that bothers me rich people use their foundations as a way to make them seem charitable while at the same time using them as tax write offs. Also you can't become a billionaire without exploitation of the planet, humans and animals. in Microsoft case the need for certain metals for hardware processing was linked to environmentally dangerous mines that used child labor. Gates can't have it both ways, he can't exploit vulnerable countries and the ecosystem for cheap materials and then turn around and say he cares deeply about the environment.
Thanks for these great reviews. I've been watching Gates a lot on Youtube and his short videos about his book. I loved The Sixth Extinction and will certainly go to this next book as soon as I can get it through the library. That and The Story of More are my favs on this subject.
Thank you for reviews! Just a small thing (that I knew of literally yesterday). It is not correct term - developing countries - it is too condescending. More appropriate terms - Majority (developing) and Minority(developed) world.
