I have just bought an otter sailing dinghy and am looking for information on rigging as i am a complete beginner. I can't find any videos on the otter so wondered if you could suggest a similar boat to rig or know of any other information that could help me. Many thanks.
I’m new and learning so I want to say what everyone else like me is thinking ... all the sailing terms like Clue and Halyard are totally weak and ultimately ghey .... “connect the Spoonty to the Flibitty...” Turn right and left , in and out, down shackle , up shackle, main or front .... wake up to yourselves and tie ropes to stuff.... but Quint was pretty cool so I’m stuck .. hmmm
I am currently approaching the fantastic sailing World and I am curious to know how you understand when you need to retire a line and which lines are most recommended in term of lifespan. After living in Vancouver BC I am now living in Italy. i just bought a 420 and ii am planning on takng it out to an offshore iisland with my boyfriend. We are both saling for the first tme n decade and we are in the dark so these vds r really helpful. any idea about lightning storms and grounding the boat so you dont get ZAPPED?

Phew, that echo and reverb is outrageous! Haha. I'll cut you slack because of how informative and easy to follow the video was. Very cool stuff. I was curious as to why sailboats don't use more pulleys to gain more leverage? Looks like the blocks/pulleys are really only directional changes and not actually reducing the amount of weight pulled. Like say a 5 to 1 would mean it weighs 1/5th the weight but you must travel 5 times the distance, or 5' to pull up just 1 foot. Why aren't these used? Is it simply not needed and something only like... ships of the line of old would use due to the sails weight? Or is it the winch itself that's giving your this force advantage? Didn't think of those until now.
Unwatchable due to the overly loud annoying repetitive wave action background sound, i couldn't blank it out to concentrate on what you were actually saying, the wave sound dominated! sorry it was great otherwise great 3D graphics etc but i had to turn off video after about 1/3rd of the way through as the wave noise was doing my head in!
This is by far the best tutorial on sailboat rigging I have seen. Simple, yet masterful. Very well done! You’ve done a great service to the sailing community.

Thank you for this extremely informative tutorial. It may seem churlish to point out the only flaw, but I feel that the audio would be improved without the water sounds which spoil the otherwise clear and concise style of this video.
