Unfortunately this video doesn’t explain what the hammer is actually used for, or when it is not a good time to use the hammer. Simply repeating the terms “Dead blow“ isn’t helpful for somebody who hasn’t used this particular hammer before. Your other videos are quite instructive, however perhaps this topic could be revisited.
Leah...could you please make a video that shows the different forces imparted by a deadblow compared to a sledge? I'm sure by now you have seen the Cybertruck presentation where they claim a deadblow hammer is actually a sledgehammer. Sadly, not enough people know the difference.

Sold these consistently to all of my metalworking customers. All precision parts. Maintenance ppl always bought as well. Never seen anyone use one in 30 yrs in the industry though. Maybe I just wasn't looking. Always staring at the machines and assisting in machining of hard to machine metals. Not always a fun career when the metal was a bear. Tapping, drilling, milling, grinding. etc.
I've always used a rubber mallet in situations like that. Granted there's a slight bounce (recoil), but I can't think of a situation I'd personally be in, where recoil is detrimental. Maybe I just haven't had a project yet that need such a delicate touch, but I've even used a rubber mallet in the exact screen door example shown, as well as on more fragile material. I honestly can't think of a scenario where you couldn't just get away with a rubber mallet.
I worked at international paper for 13 years and i used this hammer every day to replace the cutting knives on die boards. When the knives would crack over time you have to re-rule them and this hammer gets the sharp knives set in without damaging the sharp edge as the plastic protects it as you hit the knife. Leah, these hammers come in different weights, what uses would require one heavier than the one pound one you demonstrated with? One can never have too many tools, even a single use makes the expenditure worthwhile. As they say do it right, not do it over again.

I thought that the mallet with the changeable ends was the same with a dead blow hammer and the difference was in the quality of the product . Now i think i need a dead blow hammer . Nice info and useful !

I see that your framing hammer has a metal reinforcement piece on it. Was that factory, aftermarket, or did you make it?. I have not seen that configuration around my area before. It looks really handy.

I love all your videos, both long and short. I have both a rubber mallet and a dead blow and I use the dead blow more often, gives me more force without the bounce.
I guess if I tried to fault the hammer I would say the rubber compound is pretty hard compared to premium brands and they don’t seem to last as long hitting sharper surfaces. Can’t beat the price and so many companies slap a name on this particular model ie Tekton, Stanley, Graintex, Stark, Jegs etc.
What’s the ideal weight one should look for when shopping at harbor freight. They have a good sized selection at mine and I couldn’t decide what weight to purchase
