I bought one at the end of 2019 for about 180 on eBay. Wanted a cheap f2.8 zoom lense. I have used it on the m50 mk1 and eos rp. I have had some weird focus issues on the m50. Could of been an adaptor issue or because I kept switching between lenses maybe, not sure. That was the only time I had focus issues. It seems to be kind of blurry and struggles with close up shots or far away shots. Seems to perform best at mid range shots. I haven't seemed to have any issues on the rp. It's not as sharp or detailed as my 50mm f1.8 nifty fifty though. Did a bunch of comparison photos one day after doing a photo shoot for a friend. This is a great lens for personal fun. I've enjoyed it for the price. Usually my go to. I have noticed with my lense that the center isn't always great have to move up to about f4 at 28mm for sharpest center and around f5.6 for 70mm for best quality in the center of photo/focused area. F2.8 is okay for low light but If light is good i usually shot f4 for better quality.
Would you say this camera is more for photography rather than video considering the lack of image stabilisation?

I can tell you that I always follow your opinion before buying I have a 5D Mark IV moving back to Canon after being Panasonic and Sony. So I need to rebuild some few lenses. I already have a 25-105 F4L IS USM - A 70-200 f2.8 G2 from Tamron a fantastic lens, and a converter x2 from Sigma that works quite good on the TAMRON. I project to buy or a 100-400 from Sigma or Tamron or Canon It would be nice if you make a comparison review about these popular lenses. Thank You. Daniel

I am an amateur. Why purchase F2.8 when the best photos are taken at 4.5 ? Is it a good daily use lens instead of a 50 MM prime lens?

These reviews are just extremely informative! I have a Canon 28-105 f3.5-4.5 USM II for my APS-C which is a good all-around travel focal range in my opinion. However I rarely go over 70, and for that I have a tele also. Which means that a 28-70 or something like a 24-70 or 28-75 is a good one-lens setup for me. That f2.8 is really tempting, and I really miss a so detailed review from you about said Canon 28-105, for comparison purposes. I took some of my best shots with that so far (unfortunately I don't have much more to compare it to (yet)).
I’ve had this lens for over 10 years and it’s still my favorite all around and on a crop. Shot a few weddings with this and was very happy with results.

I didn't want to buy anything that wasn't top notch for my camera, but I guess this lens will have to do for the money I have right now. It's actually much better than what I anticipated for the price.
Would it fit on a canon T3i?
I used this lens for 1300d, 550d and 600d. I always struggled with focusing at f 2.8. it also isnt that sharp. Made me improve my manual focusing so mucb tho.
Can you use it on mirrorless camera
Love this lens, I use it almost everyday with my Sony a900 or a850, it's fast and focuses fast because the Sony uses a screwdriver mechanism and I find it very sharp even wide open. I want to mention that when this lens is used with a Sony Alpha body you get IBIS as a bonus making it an even better lens. Chris, I watch all your videos because of the knowledge gained from your good work makes buying decisions easier, thanks!

I found this lens in a local pawn shop for quite a descent price but noticed it's not extending outwards when zooming in/out. Is there a model that does it internally ? Also, it's not a stabilised lens, how is that affecting it's use ?

Hey mate, great video, appreciate the info, have a question though, What would you suggest for vlogging a Sony 18-105mm or 28-75mm, I am a little confused between the two, I already have a Sigma 16mm which solves the Wide angle issue, so apart from that I wanted a zoom lens which could do stills and video at a good focal length. Do suggest a better option if you have anything else in mind. I am using a Sony A6500 so no stabilization issues.

Hi there David, I am going to buy the Sony A7III, but am still wondering which lens to buy with it. I have been going over all these reviews and it looks like the Tamron will be a very good choice, I am also considering the Sony 24-105 4.0 which is however EUR 1.349 over here (against EUR 849, for the Tamron). The greatest advantage for the Sony for me is the bigger reach. Image quality is very important and it seems both are delivering excellent pics. What would your choice be?
