Tamron 35mm and 45mm f/1.8 VC Lens Review
Great Review
I've been using this lens with my Nikon D600, D800 and D7200 for the past 3 years and I've very satisfied with it. Is it perfect? NO, but I paid $299 for a fast lens with VC that's sharp, reliable and doesn't have focus issues unlike many Sigma fast primes! Tamron QC is remarkably good, I've been using their SP lenses for years because they are such a good value compared to manufacturers lenses although they do not hold onto resale values like the manufacturers lenses do.
Please Christopher, can you tell me if the lens show focus breathing? I want to buy this lens for my Blackmagic 6K which has no ibis. Thanks ☺️
I can’t believe how good the VR is on this thing. I can get some very sharp shots with slow shutter speeds
Did you have some issues with the focus adquisition with this lens? I have the 35mm f1.8 and it adquires focus en every object that I focus but with this 45mm it hunts a lot even in good light conditions
I got it for 200euro,still in is a nice lens, but don't buy it for fast action.
would you recommend this lens over canon 50mm f1.4 usm? mostly will be used for street photography and low light.
Crazy sharp. The 90d and this lens are rendering some perfect images. Cheers.
wanna see 35mm 1.8 test too please :(
Wow ciao nifty fifty. I will get me this beauty. The OS kills it. A dream come true.
The good news is that this lens is now readily available for $400 over here.
I own the Nikon version of the Tamron 45 f/1.8 VC and agree 100% with the reviewer. I'm a big fan of the 50mm lens and now that I have the Tamron my Nikkor 50 f/1.4G, 50 f/1.8G and 50 f/1.8D sit on a closet shelf waiting to be sold. My next lens will probably be the Tamron 35 f/1.8 VC which will replace several Nikkor 35mm lenses. I got lucky when I purchased my lens and got a store demo from Adorama for $329.00. My only complaint is the weight but since I use it on a D600 its not usually a problem.
Christopher! Thanks for this review! one thing I miss here is the Focus throw how big is it ? how many degrees? I'm looking for this lens as a my first video lens with contemporary edge. Sigma 50mm is also great but its more expensive (better light) but sigmas focus throw is only 90 degree sometimes its quite hard to rack focus. Can you give me some your thoughts about that two lenses ? This will be used mainly for more sharper looks that I need for more commercial projects that require sharpness not character like my old m42 lenses. Thanks for Help! Cheers! And keep up great work!
Christopher how its working on eos R?
Can you do a review of the new Tamron 35mm F1.4 DI USD please, I am not buying any lenses without your blessing.
Hi, I own a 80D camera, which one of thes lensen better in bokeh and sharpness, sigma 50 art, tamron 45, sigma 18-35, for my crop sensor , Please answer me
CA is a bit obvious.
After quite some time I stumbled again over this video, and like to share a caveat: While this lens is good, I prefer the much cheaper Canon 50 1.8. The Tamron is conceivably softer, if you look very closely (not a problem of front or back focusing, as I tested this with landscape pictures where there would be at least something in focus). Plus it is much heavier! Definitely a disadvantage when travelling. Its only advantage is the image stabilization. Concerning still photography this is only relevant in some very low light situations (with a still subject). While this lens may be great for videos, where the image stabilization is very useful, I would recommend saving the money and going for the Canon 50 1.8 (the different focal length doesn't make a big difference).
Amazing channel, Chris! Thank you! Lookin for stabilized lens for Fuji X-T3 with Fringer adapter. Would you pick this Tamron 45 1.8 or Canon 35mm f2 in terms of optical quality? thank you
when are you going to review Tamron 35mm f1.8 VC?
well bought this lens in Europe for 341 USD seems to bea lot of bang for the buck.Great review of yours as always!stay safe
I am essentially getting this lens for free for buying the 24-70mm G2.
I can't get it in a store and some retailers say its production is finished. Do you know anything about it?
sir do you still own it? which lens is better for macro 35 or 45?
Hello Dustin! would you buy now 45mm tamron or samyang for sony?
You are a Photography Guru in short, but work on sounds and your studio atmosphere! Keep going man!
can you compare this Tamron SP 45mm f1.8 Di VC USD to the Samyang 45mm f1.8 FE
Dustin with 35 mm lenses you get that facial distortion up close. Do you get that with this lens
Which is a better lens this or the canon 50mm 1.2
I already sold my canon 40mm pancake lens and for replacement i choose this tamron 45 1.8 vc.Thank you for your great Bless You,Dustin.
Is it good at covering fairly tight spaces? . I'm afraid the 35mm might be too wide for me. I like using the 40mm pancake on my canon system. What ya think?
Yes,big thumb for Tamron
Would this lens on an apsc camera (canon) be useful for landscape portraits?
super review!
Does the Tamron work with Canon 80d?
5:36 farts*
I own a Canon 50 1.8 STM, however I am looking to upgrade to a lens with the possibility of shooting at F1.8 and getting sharp images, would u recommend Canon 50 1.4 or Tamron 45 1.8 VC?
Thanks, what adapter would you recommend if any, I am using the A6000.
Is this an A mount or E mount lens?
Hi, I would like to use this lense on the Sony A68 which has a APS-C sensor. Will I lost resolution if I use this one on a APS-C body instead of a full frame? Thank you.
which photoshop you use
All I see is how you are pointing out how poor of a photographer you are. Nothing personal.
You talk about how hard it is to nail focus at 1.8. I was nailing it at 1.2 with a canon 5d so step your game up
I use this lens on both FX and DX zero issues! using the cell phone for lighting sounds professional.
I already sold my canon 40mm pancake lens and for replacement i choose this tamron 45 1.8 vc.Thank you for your great review
My copy is very consistent with focus. Better than any 50mm I have had before. I am shooting Canon.
I'm sorry, the whole chromatic aberrations discussion is so overblown. I've never had a customer say oh jeeze look at those chromatic aberrations, I'm not paying for the photos. For most, chromatic aberrations are the least of their worries. Learning how to use light and how to compose is. This is an absolute beast of a pro level lens. If you can't use this lens to take great photos, stop shooting.
hmm I have this lense and don't have this issue. it could be your camera body. I use the nikon d750 and get sharp full body images at f 1.8. I even shot at night and got crisp shots.
It miss focused or you miss focused? with my copy 9/10 is my hitrate, even wide open in dark events. Im using d750
After focus finetuning with the Tamron dock, my Tamron 45 never misses focus even on 1.8 and even in the dark on my D810. In the dark it only hunts more without a focus assist light. Although the Canon tilt shift lenses have more basic tilt shift functionality then the Nikkor counterparts the Nikkor 45 tilt shift has a max repreduction ratio of 1:2.
I sold my 24 105 L lens today and for the money ordered this Tamron. It better be worth it!
Using this lens hard to focus like you said but with vc and the great macro result it is one of the best prime you can have
Another great video! I love the results of this lens.
Some pleasing results even with some of those flaws, probably will get better the more you get used to the style of the lens. But I have noticed tamron lenses have a similar type of flare.
Excellent lens. I love it. The slowest lens I own as far as speed of AF is concerned
which one you like the most and you're right you don't need a 35mm and a 45mm but i wanted the 35mm for sure but which one you use the most
is this lens good in low light situations and how good are the pictures
Your crappy music totally distracts from any plus the lenses have
The fucked up music is really annoying
I have one on hold. That 1/5 at 100 ISO was incredible. What shutter speed is acceptable for commercial photos at night with VC turned on?
Tamron has also weather sealing. Which more expensive 35mm Sigma's don't have. Also a plus point for outdoor usage. Gonna buy the Tamron next week. Cheers for the VC examples. Gonna do night city shots with it as we. :)
I borrowed this for an hour one time and wow! I’ve been wanting a sigma 35 1.4 artbut I was blown away by the shots I got! Definitely buying one
1) I like your reviews, but I don't agree with you when you call a 45mm for a wide angle lens. Our eyes "normal view" is equal to 45 mm +/- 2 mm. 2) I'm getting old and want a lighter bag. And, I want more primes again. I have sold my Tamrons 24-70 and 70-200 (both G2), and will buy this 45mm. Other lenses I have are Canon 12-24 and 100-400 v2, TC 1.4x III, and Tamron 90 mm f/2.8 macro. (F017). I don't think I will miss any focal lengths.
2:45 I'm sold. Sigma, sorry babe.
Does anyone have issues with auto focus
Just bla bla bla and nothng else ! no optical quality test or discusion.
I'm a landscape and lifestyle photographer and I definitely wouldn't use a tripod unless I'm doing astrophotography, there's no reason to use a tripod in the middle of the day, vibration control definitely helps so you don't have to boost the ISO to crazy levels
Too qualitative review.
great info!but your heavy handed music levels made me turn it OFF.
You are 100 percent correct about your assessment, for weddings along with a 85mm and a 70-200. This a great lens and for low light it excels, like in a wedding reception with low light the VC is awesome. I own the sp45 and love it and you do only need one or the other. I have an older Nikon 35mm f2.0d series and this is a huge step up in quality. This lens is incredibly sharp with great color saturation. Tamron has come a long way and I own several of their lenses.
Are they whether sealed?
i bought one, it is a excellent lens.
I shoot with D750 and the 35mm but my lens is always missing focus if the subject is further away like 10 to 15 feet. Do you experience a similar issue?
For portrait Is Tamron 45mm 1.8 a better option than Nikon 50mm 1.8G? I'm using Nikon D5500 and 35mm 1.8G.
