TAMRON 17-28mm f2.8 Sony E-Mount LENS REVIEW | is it worth it?
Tamron 17-28mm F2.8 Di III RXD - Review w/ Sony A7III
Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 for Sony FE User Experience Review
Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD lens review with samples (Full-frame & APS-C)
Here's the thing about this lens. It's "affordable" at least in comparison to other native Sony lenses. It's does the job, it seems fine. It is lighter, less expensive but doesn't have the range of a 16-35but for most people on a budget, this would be perfectly fine.
Awesome info for sure thanks mate
Use this for astro and land/nightscapes, picked it up barely used for $650 - it's pretty great for those purposes.
Really cool lens!
Later, love how you break this down. Debating getting this and the A7C and this was super helpful. Just can’t afford or justify Sony glass right now so this left me feeling so much better about my future purchase. Thanks man.
I just bought this lens based on how it smells.  Can't wait to sniff it.
Jared what about Video Quality and AF when Moving Shots using Gimbal ?
deciding between this and the sigma 14-24. really like the sigma but i hate how you can’t use front filters
Perfect weight for mirrorless cameras though.
just got the A7Riii, mostly do photography, do you recommend this lens. And I love a wide angle for sure.
Hi, I need your help in validating my experience with Tamron 17-28 f2.8 Di III RXD :-(. I saved every penny to purchase this lens after watching all the great reviews online and decided to return it back in the very first hour of using it. Please find the link to the video where I recorded my experience. The aperture/focus motor (not certain which one is it) at higher F stops is terrible. Even as you power on the camera the lens makes an annoying noise. I found another post talking about the same thing. I have been shooting with Tamron 28-75 for nearly close to 2 years now never had such issues. I believe they use the same Di III RXD (Suppose to be super silent) as Tamron 28-75mm f2.8. I use a Sony A7iii. I still want this lens but I am unsure if this was the problem just the one I picked or is it universal. Unfortunately, no camera store (at least around me) seems to be having in the display to try. Kindly help. Thanks and Regards
I just got this lens and I noticed a noise when focusing and you are in AF-S at like f9 or f11. When the lens opens the blades to focus faster the blades make a metal noise when they open and close. This is with Sony A7 III and aperture drive in AF as Standard cause you can't change it on this lens. Has anyone experienced the same?
I'd rather get the samyang 18 2.8 for 300 bucks, cheap, compact, light does the job, specially if you dont shoot landscape often. Tamron lenses are meeh, nothing special really.
Oh, one more thing, is it compatible with the 1.4x teleconverter?
I have this lense and use it for video on a Ronin SC. It works equally well as a native lens in respect to auto focus (continuous). Love it!
Where can I find a lens with IBIS in it huh fro?
If Tamron and Pentax ever merge, they could release the Tampax 17-28mm f2.8. No need for image stabilization as it will be super absorbant against camera shake.
Can people stop saying this is a lens you buy when you can't afford a $2,000 Sony Lens? It is utterly ridiculous and has nothing to do with what someone can and cannot afford. It is an absolute bang for your buck and it can go head to head 16-35mm and find that the Tamron is damn near the same quality as the Sony. While it saves the user over $1,000, it does not mean the person cannot afford it. Why wouldn't anyone want to save a thousand dollars? I hate how people are making Tamron out to be some entry-level lens. They hold up amazingly and I dont agree with this review. I cant wait to get this lens.
thanks for review Jared Polin, I think I like to do it.
The build quality is more than offset by Tamron's 6 year warranty. Shop via Amazon and get the Asurion 3 year accident protection plan for $58 per lens (as of 2/20) and you are well ahead for enthusiast and semi-pros. The new "plastics" being used are more advanced than in years past. See shot were mostly edited using AI Accent in *Luminar 4* - 10 $ / € Discount code: *THS10* Most of the shots were taken with *Freewell UV filter* attached.
Great review as always! quick question, you think its better to get this lens for vlogging compared to Sony 24mm f1.4 GM? Need to think which one I should get first. Can I vlog with the Sony 24mm f1.4? Or I should get this one. Thanks!
Cambodia
is the lens par focal like 28-75?
When looking at the picture and frame (on the right wall), and also at the box, the Tamron image seems to be distorted a bit. Is that the case or it's the way you cut the image for the comparison? 4:48. Great video, thank you!
Great review. Thank you!
great video!
what about sony a7r3? Can this lens make a sharp image at 42mpx? I want to buy a set of 17-28 and 28-75.
There is problem in Tamron 17-28 from it's birth the af is not trustworthy af point dissapper many times u need too switch on and off for AF point reappear many times af point pick nearest thing better too go on Sony native lens
I wonder if Tamron will make a 24-105mm or thereabouts?
Sony is the best camera, i use to make video slow motion cat in my channel
for travel video I have this one and 28-75 which prime lens should I get? I plan to sell my 85mm cuz I barely use it. thanks
vydarená recenzia!
Awesome video, that's make me want to invest in Sony a7III and Tamron len. Thank you
Thanks for the review. Cant wait to see the Tamron 70-180 for Sony.
Great review! Deciding between the Tamron 17-28mm or the Sony 24mm GM!
Can you test this lens on an A7iv? I had the 28-75 on my A7iii and is was fine. However when mounted on my A7iv I realised that already midframe sharpness was rubbish on that lens. So I sold it. Was hoping that the new Sigma 24-70 would have better sharpness. However the first reviews I have seen of that lens are not good regarding corner sharpness. It seem like there are no zooms on the market that hold up for architecture and landscape photography.
I watched many of videos on lense reviews, but this time is much interesting as you with it a trip to my country, Cambodia. Nice to hear and see your pictures about my country
Hybrid Shooter I love your videos. Great work. But was just wondering what did you use to film this very review.
I've had this gem since it's release and it is pretty awesome for its price. Things that stand out are the colors and reasonable sharpness
Do YOU Agree? Is the Tamron 17-28mm a FANTASTIC sequel?! Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8: Tamron 28-75mm: Sony GM 16-35mm f/2.8: you color grade the footage of the tamron in this video? or used any picture profie? If yes please let me know it lookes amazing in your video!
Really brilliant video! Thank you :)
Because Gopro was my first actual camera of any type, I've never been able to consider a 17mm as "ultra wide angle". It just seems regular wide angle to me. (not that a gopro compares even remotely to a full frame sensor camera) But there are some specialty primes out there that are way wider than 17mm anyways, the 12mm Rokinon for example. I think that 10-15mm (maybe even 16mm) can accurately claim the title as ultra wide tho. No arguments there. Regardless. 17mm is plenty wide enough for me and I think Tamron knocked it out of the park with this lense in terms of budget and performance.
THANK YOU, MAN! YOU JUST SAVED ME 1K!
What's a circo?
Your videos are the most informative, engaging and all around best gear reviews on youtube.
I love a7 3 so mach
Thank god for shazaam. Intro song: Daniel Kadawatha - Lost In America Part II
I love this guy! Let me subscribe
I am wondering how Tamron lenses perform in low-light situations . I am looking for a lense I can use for landscape and night photography without spending a fortune
Great review. Sold!
What mic did you use outdoors?
I hesitate between this lens and Zeiss Batis 18mm f/2.8? What would you choose? (I don't care so much about the zoom) Great video btw
Suggest Tamron 17-28 f2.8 or Sony zeiss 16-35 f4
Bay watch is vote for you
Hello sir, I m looking for a wide lense for my a7iii and confused between Tam 17-28 and recently launched 20mm 1.8gwhich one is more sharper and good for filmmaking?
The tamron is _clearly_ muddy by comparison.

This guy do good reviews. I choosing between zeiss batis 18mm 2.8 and this. Any advice? : )
Damn was not expecting Sigma to launch lighter (470g) 28-70 f/2.8 with smoother bokeh than Tamron. But both lens have close performance. Also Chris was quick to review it. Watching your review clears up lot of confusion.
Thanks for the great channel. How does it compare to primes at 50mm?
You are the BEST lens reviewer on YouTube! Thanks for all of your hard work.
I'm saving up for this lens and it'll pare nicely with my Tamron 20mm f2.8
Which lens do you recommend for the Sony A7 III body? I want to make a kickboxing video.
why you don't have the 17-28?
I have a 24mm lens and it's a fine optic used less than ten times in two decades - can live without a 24 - even live without 28. As someone who shoots a lot of portraits, I could live with a 35 to 90 range. I won't be selling my ancient Tamron 90mm lens just yet. Sharpness? I spend a lot of time putting various soft focus filters on for portraiture. More softness in post. You can't win when you build lenses. As for bokeh, I spend a lot of time shooting to try to include the context, and still soften it. A different philosophy to most but context is often vitally important and giving a customer a choice between a soft image and one that's tack sharp produces surprising choices at times from customers. Will buy this zoom though! I'd be happy with the zoom for lots of work. My two macros (60 & 90) often end up replacing normal prime lenses. Usage? - About 90% normal and 10% macro but that 10% macro takes shots that are indispensable. Five Star video. Thanks.
Someone get me one pls
will you be reviewing 28-200 tamron for sony?
Chris please test the Tamron 17-28 f2.8, i've been waiting for a review for that from you
Christopher, could you please review the tamron 28-200Thank you.
Please do the new Tamron 70-300 for Sony E mount thanks
Just got mine
We are waiting 17-28 and 70-180)
quality of the bokeh is a matter of personal taste. Can't be bad or wrong. It's characteristics are adjective though. I've seen photos of this lens which remind me of MF lenses from the 80s. Definitely not an RZ but if you look at the bokeh of a contax zeiss 80mm f2 you might see the similarities too. Greets from Greece
Hi,master,please make a review for the new lens~tamron 28-200 zoom lens,thanks a lot.
why you don't have the 17-28?
Absolutely love your reviews, but please don't test AF with outdated camera bodies since these results can be misleading for some people!
Are these the same optics as the Canon EF version of this lens?
Hi Chris, I also watched your Sony FE 35 f/1.8 review. I own this lens and I was thinking about replacing this Tamron with 35mm to shave some weight off my kit, but it looks like Tamron 28-75mm performs better than 35mm. What are your thoughts? Edit: Thanks for the reviews.
