Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 VC USD lens review with samples (Full-frame and APS-C)
Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC G2 - BEST wide angle lens for CANON EOS R (vs. Tokina 11-20mm f/2.8)
New vs Old: Tamron 15 - 30 2.8 Ultra Wide Angle Lens
Loved this video man! Your shots you’ve taken with that lens are so insane! So much good info and that spicy b-roll
Tokina Opera 16-28mm 2.8 gives the Tamron a run for the money
I have read posts stating that there are some compatibility issues with this lens on the Canon R bodies. Have you had the firmware updated?
You most certainly use filters on the rf system via the adapter
Great review dude. I am seriously considering to obtain this lens. I believe this copy in the review is the G1 version. I have doubt for the compatibility with EosR. Have you updated the firmware bf using it on EosR?
How can you put a filter ?
If you have a Canon R use the drop-in adapter filter for this type of lens is just amazing.
Hello Sir, I need to buy a full frame mirrorless camera for personal use. Please suggest on this. I have selected 2 cameras Sony A7iii and Canon EOS R. which should i buy? Also suggest the lens Please reply. Thanks
I'm slowly building a real estate photography business. This lens would be perfect for interior photography of tight rooms. Most shots will be on a tripod. Cost in the US is about $300.00 more than the 16-35 f/4 canon lens. I'm trying to make a decision on which to purchase? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks for the video.
wish Tamron would ditch the Nikon focus zoom direction of the rings. pretty annoying, and i avoid them for this reason when other lenses are comparable
Does the lens hood come off?
eos R5 can use this lens?
Did you update the firmware to use it on the EOS R? If not, is everything working as it should?
hey i have enough information now about photography and i really appreciate everything you have done for me. well i have notice f1.8 is better but i'm going to try out a few lenses tomorrow at my buddy house and see how good it does on my old camera the 10.1 megapixel one. i'm going to buy the canon 50mm from amazon and deal with that for awhile and then i will look at the tamron 35-150 i heard a lot of good things about that lens and then i heard good things about the tamron 17-35 and i'm also hearing good things about the sigma 18-35. he have a nice camera bag and he have 2 cameras and 4 lenses 1 full frame and 1 crop sensor that's cool. he was showing me the difference between full frame and crop and i love what i'm hearing with the full frame one. but i will definitely buy the canon 80d and the canon 6d and i'm done 3 cameras is all you need and i will see which one i will use the most lol. i already have an tamron 18-200 and i want the tamron 35-150 and the 50mm and the tamron 17-35 and the 10-18 that's 5 lens but i will see which ones i will decide to go with. so with those lenses i mention i want you to tell me what you think about those nices lenses
Excellent review and I agree on all points as a fellow owner of the tamron 15-30. Haida also makes a set of rear ND filters (4 + mount) you can use for long exposures for about 120 bucks, a far better and less expensive option than using front filters - it would really help with your long exposure shots where you had to go to F22. Something worth mentioning - you might want to use ISO 320 on the EOS R when doing landscapes. At ISO 100 and below, the EOS R has a dynamic range of roundabout 10.8 - this increases by about 1.5-2 when you reach ISO 320 (it peaks at ISO 800 ~14.8). Now you will think me insane because NOISE and GRAIN right? Unless you crop BEYOND 100% (and if you do, then disregard this entirely), noise will not be visible to the human eye when viewing the photo at 100% on a really good, big monitor, nor on super large prints. Our eyes just can't perceive Noise on a ISO 320 100% crop coming from the EOS R. So when you have a lot of light and shadow in landscapes, it makes sense to turn the ISO up to 320. At 400, it starts to be barely perceptible on 100% crops, so 320 is the cutoff point for 100% viewing. You can go to ISO 800 if you know you aren't going to crop for maximum dynamic range (it only becomes visible globally once you are over 1000 iirc). A lot of people don't realize that dynamic range on any particular body isn't best at lowest ISO, but that the sweet spot is usually somewhat higher and always keep the ISO at 100 or 50 no matter what if they can, because they are scared of introducing visible noise (not taking into account the limitations of our eyes). Just input, not a criticism.
Hey liked your video, was digging for wide angle for my r6 n r, so wanted to know about its focusing in still n video Hope u rly your experience Have a good day cheers
How is the focus with the adapter? Still nice and fast?
Nice review man I love my Canon 16-35 F4 IS but definitely interested in this one since it's 2.8. Shame about the filters though.
I have the same setup, apart from being heavy its real good on the R.
Tamron make some great lenses, very underrated
Hi Christopher, great video. :) thanks. By the way, do you know if the Tamron 15-30 G1 which you've reviewed here works with the Canon R? If it works, then I will replace my 6D with the R. If not, I will wait :) cheers
I have this lens and the Sigma 14-24mm DG DN both on Sony, and I think the Tamron is sharper and has less field curvature. I think you are wrong about the Sigma.
Bro, beautiful but, Does it have a rear screw to put a polarizer filter ? since the most of the users could be landscape photographers. If not, How the heck are you going to match a polarizer filter in the front ?, you are going to spend more money trying to get it.
hey i want a lens that's great in low light if this is the only lens i need then i want to buy one. and if the auto focus is fast then that's great. i have a canon 400d 10.1 megapixels and the lens on there is alright but i want something better than my tamron 18-200. if the lens is great in low light and have a fast auto focus then i need to jump on that. what do you think about the tamron 15-30 i love that one. and what you think about the tamron 85mm lens. like you said i want a lens that i can do everything with. i never knew there was a full frame camera so i want to buy me a full frame camera and what do you think about the canon 6d and i want the canon 80d and that's it. 3 cameras is all i need and 4 lens 1. tamron 35-150 2. tamron 15-30 3. canon 50mm 4. tamron 85mm tell me what you think about everything i said

You cant put filters on it Useless
Please, review the g2 with same lens?
Very nice, please make a video for 15-30 G2
Chris, always the best source for lens reviews
Great video. Would it work well on A7iii? And what adapter would you recommend? Thanks
Should i buy 10-24 or 15-30 for my 7D ?
What vignetting and distortion on apsc camera.
Thanks for a wonderful review. Have you tested IQ at 20mm and 24 mm ?
Is it the G1? Not G2?
Review the g2 of this modle
Whats the difference between the g2? And the sigma 14-24mm f2.8? IQ, sharpness, CA, corners, vigneting, distortion? I subbed! Ty
where is 17-35mm f2.8-4 di osd?
not sure if pick this one or SIGMA Art 14-24 mm F2.8 DG HSM, opinions?
How well will this perform on the new Sony A7iii using the sigma MC11?
Chris, I was wondering, will you be reviewing the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 Art lens? I rely on your testing. Thanks for all you do. God Bless you.
Love these videos.
"Why not just get the RF 15-35mm f/2.8l IS USM" those are exactly my thoughts too, and if I had the $2,999 CAD they want for it, this wouldn't ever be a debate. That's the one I'd get since RF glass is pretty much the best you can get nowadays. But alas, I don't have $3k so the free EF to RF adapter plus the Tamron 15-30 G2 is the way to go for roughly $1,300 less.
did the continous focus work on the Tamron while in movie mode?
hey i want a lens that's great in low light if this is the only lens i need then i want to buy one. and if the auto focus is fast then that's great. i have a canon 400d 10.1 megapixels and the lens on there is alright but i want something better than my tamron 18-200. if the lens is great in low light and have a fast auto focus then i need to jump on that. what do you think about the tamron 15-30 i love that one. and what you think about the tamron 85mm lens. like you said i want a lens that i can do everything with. i never knew there was a full frame camera so i want to buy me a full frame camera and what do you think about the canon 6d and i want the canon 80d and that's it. 3 cameras is all i need and 4 lens 1. tamron 35-150 2. tamron 15-30 3. canon 50mm 4. tamron 85mm tell me what you think about everything i said
i don't want no lens that's going to make my pictures look garbage or no expensive lens. i want to only spend something 300 to 500 and that's it. i'm saying i'm cheap but some of those very expensive lens are garbage and some of the cheaper ones actually look better than the expensive ones

Great review!
I didn't notice but did you mention autofocus noise with the tamron? Will internal camera microphones pick up any sound?
So did you buy the lens yet? I am also looking into it for the BMPCC 6k, which would be a little bit overkill since it doesnt have a FF sensor. I think the IS is not behaving as well as on the Canon lenses for video though.
Awesome video, and very helpfull!
How is the barrel distortion when shooting video?
Hey nice review, but want to know Tamron 24-70 g2 f2.8 or 24-105 f4 rf which one is better for eos r?
Hey Kamil, does the Tamron lens make a lot of noise when it autofocuses while vlogging? My past experience with a Tamron lens was that it was very noisy when adjusting the autofocus. Dzieki!
I evaluated Tamron and also these two options Tokina Opera (new model) 16-28mm F2.8 FF or Tokina 16 -28 F2.8 (old model). What you think?
What about Vizelex ND Throttle lens adapter, It is much cheaper! And is autofocus loud for video? Thanks!
what about a second hand canon 16-35mm f2.8 ? would you recommend that?
Subscribed! Good informative content, keep it up!
Just get the Canon 16-35 f4
This channel will go far simply because people love accents. lol
A lot of photogs use VC/VR/IS/OSS or whatever the heck to excuse themselves from using tripods, but I think the real purpose of VC is for filmmakers. I would never push the limits of a lens on a full frame body because ISO is more than capable of making up for your quicker shutter speeds. Maybe not so much on crop bodies, however.
Why I saw some centers the G1 is sharper than G2
Stabilization is the only real improvement but in video modes only.
Is there no 15-30mm G2 for Sony E?
I know they’re different lenses, but should I buy the Tamron 35mm f/1.4 or the Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 G1 first. anyone?
weather sealing means i can take pivtures in the rain
hey i want a lens that's great in low light if this is the only lens i need then i want to buy one. and if the auto focus is fast then that's great. i have a canon 400d 10.1 megapixels and the lens on there is alright but i want something better than my tamron 18-200. if the lens is great in low light and have a fast auto focus then i need to jump on that. what do you think about the tamron 15-30 i love that one. and what you think about the tamron 85mm lens. like you said i want a lens that i can do everything with. i never knew there was a full frame camera so i want to buy me a full frame camera and what do you think about the canon 6d and i want the canon 80d and that's it. 3 cameras is all i need and 4 lens 1. tamron 35-150 2. tamron 15-30 3. canon 50mm 4. tamron 85mm tell me what you think about everything i said
I'm confused. I ordered the G2 and my lens says G2 but it also says SP. Are you saying G2 and SP are two different lenses?
How about coma and corner performance for astrophotography ? Any idea whether one is better than the other ?
My G2 distort really bad at the edge, is that normal?
Hi! I am not an expert and perhaps I missunderstood you but if you mean ND filters you can use nisi filters. They have a filter holder for this lense.
Canon now makes the RF 15-35mm f/2.8 lens which has image stabilization.
Thanks Patrick Hall for the info. Am a canon user, please let me know if i can use a filter at the back of the tamron sp lens 15-30 , or its a reserve for the G2 ?
Great video as usually. Plenty of examples and detailed explanations.
That was a good review.
The new one is also an SP
All the tamron G2 lenses are looking great.
I realise this may be unrelated but i thought I would throw this out there. I have had the old version featured in this video for about 2 years. Never had any problems until recently when I realised the autofocus had stopped working. For weeks I couldn't figure out the issue until today I noticed that the zoom function appeared to be loose. Upon further inspection I realised that there were 3 screws located around the front lens under the circular self adhesive cover. Upon removing this I noticed 2 of the screws were almost falling out. After tightening these the autofocus was back to normal. Anyway I hope this helps someone in the future who is having similar issues. Peace
Patrick, I know this is almost a year later and I love to hear your recommendations on lenses. I am looking to purchase a Ultra Wide Zoom for my Z6 and as much as I love Nikon paying double for a lens is hard to justify for a hobbyist like me. Do you still feel this lens is the better lens to get in ultra wide for Nikon? Thanks and keep up the videos.
It's curious, YouTube photographers always shoot Canon or Nikon, but never both systems. And some shoot Leica. They do combine Sony or Fuji with those systems, though. But crossing from Canon to Nikon or vice versa seems taboo for some reason.
