I primarily shoot video w/ autofocus and I am looking for a wider prime to pair with the Sony 55mm 1.8. I think I might go for the Sony 28mm 2.0 over this one because the AF is better on the sony.
Just bought. Great niche filler lens which I will make $ off of doing real estate photography and have fun playing with macro and wide angle video at the same time.
Tamron 24mm 2.8 or samyang 24mm 2.8 sony?
Would you say this 24mm 2.8 is still worth getting if you already have the 17-28mm 2.8 for Sony a7c?

Autofocus noise is really an issue.
You're comparing it to the Sony GM. Isn't it like 5 times the price?
I want to buy my first sony camera the A7C because I want full frame but light. 24mm is my favourite focal distance, this tamron is also small and light but Im worried about the video AF as a few reviews have said it can be a bit flaky.
Wish it was a 1.4 or even a 1.8

I am planning to get a good combos of prime lens for a7iii. I am thinking of buying 24 mm 55 mm zeiss 1.8 and 85 1.8. What are tour recommendations or opinion on these selections. Thinking of adding 35 sonnar zeiss also if is needed.

I'm mostly portrait photographer and wanted to buy 70-180mm with sony a7r3. But of course i would need wider lens sometimes. But budget is already gone with 70-180mm. I would like to buy 17-28mm tamron but it is way expensive and dont really need it. So i guess this lens would be enough for a while to me with 70-180 mm. I wanted 85mm 1.4 sigma art too but i think zoom lens gives me more options and I always shoot on good lighting conditions so

Are you serious? A7II is a bit more on the budget friendly side of cameras? Have you been around to expensive gear for to long? A Sony 6000 is a budget friendly camera. A Canon M50 is a budget friendly camera. An A7III is seriously expensive. I use an A7RII but at least I know it is a heap of money for a camera. The review was nice though albeit a tad shallow.

I didn't know much about Tamron After reading the reviews, I decided to buy it. I am glad Great price for the lens my friend is taking a lot of photos of the kids as they play sports and the lens has been well worth the money.

Im using tamron 24mm f2.8 macro lens and samyang 45mm f1.8 with a7r3. Both very sharp even wide open with acurate af. The only problem is a bit slow and noisy af of tamron. Samynag af is faster and noisless. Optically both excellent.
Hello, I already have a 50mm 1.8 but looking to add another, wider lens so between the two Tamron len's that you reviewed which would you think would be better for food photography?
It’s incredibly disturbing how many so called independent reviewers talk about post distortion correction like it’s a free lunch. There’s a loss of edge pixels and very significant loss of sharpness and overall fidelity. The fact you don’t bring this up is frankly unbelievable. Unless of course your corporate donors are happy you don’t.
Love your reviews generally and this one in particular. I've got a good feeling for these Tamron primes, esp the 20 mm which alas, you did not have around. I agree with the summary by Evelyn about the compactness, weight, 2.8 speed, high performance and affordable price. Well balanced you might say. I think Tamron have got it right but of course for those who need lenses at 1.4 or 1.8 then I guess best to look elsewhere but be prepared for everything being bigger. Keep up the good work guys. hello I subscribed to your channel, I am Italian, I wanted your advice for an ideal lens for portraits for my sony a7rii. it must have sharpness, details, bokeh. what do you recommend between viltrox af 85 f1.8- sony fe 85 f.1.8- sigma art 85 f1.4-
AF is incredibly slow on the 24mm. Hunting included. It's pumping 3 times until the focus hits. Street photography? No way.

Tamron should of done F1.8 variants, Samyang have the 2.8 area covered and there primes have been very popular.
Nope What’s the point when the two Tamron zooms are so light and capable already. These really needed to be F1.8
Totally stupid to bring a 35mm F2.8. This should‘ve been a f1.8 or 2. If I want it small, we have the pancakes from Samyang. Those Tamron are as boring as it could be and expensive for what they are.
With f/2.8, I do not really see why I should get these lenses. I already have the Tamron zoom lenses for Sony. Yes, I would get the kit even smaller and lighter, but the zooms are already pretty light and compact. If I was to look for something to add to the 17-28 and 28-75 in my kit, it would have to be significantly faster to actually enable me to shoot under new or different conditions I cannot shoot with the current kit.

Still looking for a performance review on the 24mm wide open. F/2.8 will be fast enough for astro-landscapes if aberrations are very well controlled but a "stellar" 20mm would be better.
I returned it and went back to the Samyang 24mm. That OSD drive is super noisy and .waste of time buying and returning it.
I prefer the Sony 28 f2 for a budget wife lens. Plus it's my favorite streaming lens (webcam) is the Sony 28 f2 and I don't know why it's so overlooked! Having it just on top of my PC is the perfect focal length (24mm is too wide from on top of my PC monitor) for a beautiful creamy bokeh, always sharp, fast focusing, very compact and sooooo cheap to buy! I was using the Tamron 17-28 f2.8 and the Sony 28 f2 is sooooo much better for a streaming lens.

Bro I bought sony a 7iii just 3 days ago with sony 85mm f1.8 lens. But i need to buy another lens for doing short distance photography and landscape as well. But now i am with a little budget. So it would be helpful if you suggest me any lens under 450 USD for my desired things.
At some point in the distant future this might replace my Sigma Super Wide II, which I'm currently using on an adapter. However I don't really *need* the extra sharpness or the superior AF, so I'll happily use that setup for a while longer. That lens has 1:4 macro which is super fun in practice so something I also want in its replacement.
Can you compare this to the samyang 24mm?
if only it was an f 1.4 to f2.0

I wish Tamron made this lens a 2.0 instead of 2.8 as I believe it would have found itself in my kit.
I have had this lens since it came out & have used it for design - landscape - interiors - architecture. It is very sharp & for no other 24mm has such a closeMFD (including vintage lenses). Its also very travel friendly. I also got the 17-28 and though there is not a large difference between the 24mm focal length I am finding that the prime lets in more light and I just enjoy it too much to let it go.
