Great detailed video! Question though, does anybody know if we can just reuse the same bearings? Also do we have to have that thick grease when putting the bearings back in, or can we use a standard lube? Also, how can I figure out what kind of axel I need should this be the problem? Input from anybody smarter than me would be appreciated lol.
Perfect thank you
Can i replace this kind of axle with thru axle?
Had a little trouble adjusting it at the end but I took the washers off the old axle and it spaced out. She rides again. Thank you for this video
REally good vid. Thank you.
this job is way beyond me lol looking like the LBS time :(
What is most common nuts for bicycle wheels? I wanted to purchase just 1 cone wrench , would it be 14 mm?
Why is my bicycle's rear axle always breaking. Its a new bicycle i bought and its the 3rd time I've swapped the bent rear axle. How can i fix it to never break again
Kap question san nakaka bili nang axle po ?
Can i take off the spacer?
my axle is 145mm and I ordered a 143mm axle.. do you think there's that much difference?
Are all axle's the same? or does every brand have a different axle?
Great videos by you . Love from India 🌼
Nice how to vid! 🤘
My axle is broke into pieces what is may the cause pls give me advice
Cutiya
Tbh you dont need to take off the free wheel after u take off the nuts and bearings from the side were is no free wheel you give it a tap with a rubber hammer and the axel comes right out
Could you put a longer axle onto a hub as long as you use the nuts and washers already on the hub
Excellent tutorial,thanks👍
I am from India and I have a cycle but both wheel and bottom only balls and cup can change to bearing?
how do you remove the bearing that was used as a press? I saw you removed it with ease, which is NOT how it happens. Great video up to the point where you edit difficult parts or how to deal with difficult parts.
how about the back wheel?
I'm replacing the bearings and this video helps. Thanks for sharing.
Does anti seize work instead of grease?
Very helpful video. 5:55 i found the best way to help centre the inner sleeve is to put the wheel on it's side and level, then the sleeve will be vertical and the bearing will compress on to it squarely. As for cleaning, chain and gear degreaser might make your drive train look awesome but will liquify any bearing grease!
Well what do you do if the bearing collapses 😂 ?
The BEST tutorial ever. Very brief and easy to understand.
Hey thanks for the great video. I have a set of Hunt Aero Wide’s. The bearing looks to be set deeper than one bearings width, it looks like if I used the old bearing as a drift then I would end up pressing both bearings back in??
Nolan, this is awesome, thanks! I've been servicing (volunteer at a LBS) older bikes using cup/cone and "get that". This does look much simpler. Probably a silly questions, but how do I determine the right size bearings for my more modern MTB wheels? Thanks!
You didn't show how to remove the axle from the start.
Thanks for the tips, did not expect to find this brilliant info
This is the best wheel bearing tut out there. I’ve watched many. Thanks!
Show your work, even if you don't show your face, it will work.
1:20 You skipped through this part too fast. I didn't get it. That is what I want to know how and tools I need to expose the cartridge bearings for examination and service. Maybe somebody can do a video that shows how to do this from the beginning.
what is the purpose of the hub sleeve? the mechanic forgot to put it in. FUUuu
Got 4 new bearings for my rocker bmx but sadly it's got completely different axles i only replaced 2 bearings the other 2 old ones won't come out and they're sealed like these but yeah idk I'll see what a bike shop can do and another bike i bought from them its an amazing brand it's a kink street bmx and the brakes don't work and the cranks do this weird jolt type movement and clank really loud noticed right after i got the bike anyway thank you so much tho and i just now subscribed
Man - my hubs are a good bit more conplicated and I use that bike cleaner...
I can’t even remove the axel from my wheel…
Thank you for that - exactly what i needed. I'll also second your high praise for Hunt's customer service after they replaced the freehub on my Gravel 30s in just three days and with no charge. I suspect it failed for the same reason as your front wheel bearings and they could easily have been less generous.

Looks like I did it right. Thanks.
Thank you so much!!! Took mine apart and forgot the process of putting it back together lmao do the races really need that much grease packed in there though? I had no grease and have been using vegetable oil and it seems to work fine 😂
Brilliant. I learned so much from this. Thank you!
Omg I was struggling so much with this, just today I thought I got this right, but apparently not 😅
Suppose the racers were damaged, could you replace them on the hubs you have there?
i might just leave one cone on the axle and also use isopropyl alcohol to clean the parts. It evaporates quickly.
If anyone is using the older bikes with the nuts on the outside holding the wheel ( non quick release) remember to leave 1.5 mm of play so that when you tighten the 2 wheel nuts the wheel won't be binding. If there is too much play remove only the non drive nut of the wheel and adjust the cone spacing with your spanner and tighten it a bit more. Doing this from the non drive side means you do not have to take off the freewheel or the wheel itself so makes it very easy to adjust the play.
Thank you! Local bike shop said it would take 2 - 3 weeks to fix my wheel wobble and squeak, no way! With this video I did it myself and no more wobble or squeaking! Everyone on the trail thanks you so they don’t have to hear my wheel screeching!
Nice job! Very clear. Tip for the tightness adjustment on the balls: there may be absolutely no friction at the time you're still adjusting them. When you fasten all the later nuts, the pressure is only going to increase. When the balls are under pressure and being heavily used, temperature will go up, balls will expand a little bit. That makes them more prone to failing.
Trying to replace a spoke I had a few bearings drop out, so this will be useful for replacing those! Thanks.
Thanks to your video on replacing twist grip shifters with trigger shifters, I have had an enjoyable Saturday morning replacing the ones on my old mountain bike. Now I have found this video, I am almost excited by the fact that I noticed that there is a lot of play in the rear axle. Now I really need to get me some marine grease ! :-)
Hia firsly thanks for your video's always my go to guy. Would you have anything more to say about getting the best possible tightness on the bearings. I always struggle with being too loose or too tight.
Thanks for the informative video! I have a specialized 'Hard Rock' bike and am wondering what size cone wrench I will need? After shopping for them I find that there are different sizes and I don't want to buy a whole set.. Thanks in advance.
I was given a schwinn 29 in mountain bike and the back wheel is missing the rod that holds it to the bike and what do I need to get someone told me that I need a quick release hub rod and some bearings I ordered a pair of bearing but there are not loose balls like that they were stuck together in a ring shape but didn't fit do I need to get loose one like yours and how do I find out the size I need? Sorry for all the questions lol I just want to get this bike up running for my son. Thank you.
sir what is the size of ball bearing?
On threaded parts it's best to clean them with a small wire brush.
do the bearings need to be perfectly side by side in a circle? or is it okay if they're a bit crooked as long as they are sitting in place? I imagine they move a bit as the wheel spins since they are not tightly in place in the race.
I'm reusing the bearings and using ppl-I polyrube 1000.
Thanks not i know my bike not spin freely because of tighten nut in the bearing it will try to loosen nut to move the wheel..
