Hello, this Lens is on sale right now for $899 on BH Photo vs $799 for FUJIFILM XF 16-80mm f/4. I am thinking about buying XT-4, would spending $100 more worth getting 16-55mm F2.8 over 16-80 F4 for 1st general purpose zoom lens? I am thinking of getting 23 vs 35mm F2 along with 16 F.14 for prime and ultrawide.

I have wondered how these crop lenses fare on the full frame cameras in crop mode compared to the crop bodies? You do give resolution comparisons on test charts but there are other considerations such as the high iso performance and larger photo sites. My problem is I don't like the ergonomics of my a6000 and would not mind the increased size of a full frame body but keep my crop lenses that I am very happy with. You must be the best qualified person to comment on this having both cameras. Many thanks for all your great videos, I even enjoy watching the ones I have no interest in buying.

Hi Christopher, I shoot mostly landscape photography since I'm a backpacker and live in the mountains. With my A6300 would I notice any difference in picture quality with this 16-55mm lens over the 18-105mm F4?
So that black corners mean, that the advertised 16mm aren't "real" 16mm?
Got this lens for a nice price, it's realy something speacial on my A6400. The only bad thing is the extrem crop on 16mm when the software needs to cut the image down so you don't see the dark corners anymore.

It just makes no sense tho if you compare it to buying an A7ii and Tamron 28-75. Sony just haven’t made aps-c a valid middle ground choice. The size and cost are too similar to it’s full frame brother.

I’m a tad confused, I’m new to photography. I noticed in the video you are shooting at more than just f2.8. I thought this lens could ONLY shot in f2.8? Or is this just as small as it can go?

I bought this lens for my a6600 body, and immediately fell in love with it. The lens performs well in low light, especially with the camera in the Multi Frame NR mode. While the lens does not have IBIS, the camera IBIS does perform adequately for me. I do agree that the sticker price of the lens, coupled with the high price of the a6600 was tough to swallow.
Just got mine a week ago and I took it on vacation. I’m a working pro and this lens is amazing! I have full frame, APS-C and MFT bodies. After seeing the images from this lens I’m blown away. I’m using it on an a6400 so now this will be my carry anywhere camera. What a perfect size package!

In an ideal world what do you think would be a fair price for the lens? I just see some sales, but have no idea...
4 mins in so far, but two quick observations. (1) Adding OSS to this lens whilst maintaining image quality and the constant f2.8 would have made the lens significantly larger. The lens is designed and priced for the flagship a6600, as such omitting OSS was probably a good choice. (2) In terms of value there’s no denying it’s expensive, but there’s no competition either. The Zeiss f4 isn’t just slower, it’s light years behind in IQ. The full frame Tamron is going to start at 42mm on APS-C. This lens is uniquely positioned and could replace, for example, the entire Sigma prime trio. So expensive yes, but it’s quite justifiable why.

I think it's a great lens and the price has already dropped considerably at some resellers. Some distortion and vignetting are the price you pay for keeping size and weight down while keeping the image quality up, apart from that. Otherwise this lens would be way bigger, or way more expensive.. A lens always is a compromise but I think this one is more than acceptable.
I bought this 16-55 F2.8 few weeks ago. And the lens is sharp!. Btw. Piece of advise dont buy any filter/protection glass in front of the lens. Because it will make your 16mm /F2.8 shoot to have Vignetting effect. And is quite hard to correct in light room.. but the lens is worth it though. Super light and sharp.👍

Great review! While this is pricey, I think it might be the one for me. My main concern is the lack of OSS. I won't shoot at a low shutter speed often, so I 'm really only concerned about it with videos. Is there an equivalent range lens with at least the same quality of sharpness at a wide open aperture (F2.8 or wider) that does have OSS?

Nice video, but wish could add more slow motion shot. Fast action is better view in slower motion. The transition of each clip seems too sudden. Well, I prefer the smooth feeling.

Nice photos! Thanks for the review. Seems like an amazing lens, but a little too rich for me :( You definitely need to incorporate some super slow mo in your videos. Especially for marshal arts footage. Would look so awesome and would add another level to your stories.

On a limited budget you buy a 1400 dollars lens
A7iii+24-105=1300g, a6600+16-55=1000g. (A7iii+24-105=1300, Significantly better for almost the same money.)
