Thanks for the review. I use this on a silent Yamaha guitar SLG200S and the sound quality is excellent however the volume could be louder. You mentioned weak phones would need a boost. What (portable) solution would you recommend to amplify the 3.5mm output of the guitar? Thanks!

These headphones are for mixing and mastering and monitoring audio. They are not for general purpose use although you can use them that way but they're main intention is for broadcast and studio work
The only thing I want to see Sony do to these headphones is make the cable detachable that's it

I'm in the radio /podcast business. If you can find better cans, let me know. Truly: everything else I've heard are inferior. Do they look cool? No. Do they sound great? Hundreds of thousands of people who do audio for a living can't find anything that sounds better. (Wish I could, they're not pretty. But nothing beats the sound. Pun intended.)
They may be cheap but you'll never get an accurate depiction of your audio unless you invest in some high end speakers, and never be able to tell subtle bass things without proper subs. In ears with a good bass profile are probably a worthy investment too, to remove problems in your room if you don't have a pro studio
Part of the purpose of monitors is to present you with what you would expect to hear when the audio is played in a room. Usually this means, emphasized mids and lower treble

This headphone next to my MDR-CD900ST lasted 15years and still functioning and you saying that they are not durable?, actually this and CD900ST the most modular studio headphone you can ever buy you can modify it, change the headset if it's broken since they are still selling parts for these. while with BEATS you cant even repair it anymore lol you have ZERO understanding why those became standard in studio.

This seems more like an advertisement for sonarworks than a review.
I have to say I agree, the huge treble hump these have in the mid to low highs is really too much and makes the headphones very harsh and fatiguing to listen to.
Flat frequency response is not the end all and be all of great sound. There are so many other variables. I use these headphones daily and not found a more accurately revealing real world representation. I use Shure HPAEC1540 Replacement Alcantara Ear Pads on these Sony's.
lol at the comments. These cans have qualities but also obvious flaws. Anybody serious about audio know this. It doesn't take long to notice the harshness and lack of bass. You can mix on these but you have to know what they do. Know you gear.

These aren't mixing headphones, they are for studio monitoring while recording
Andrew Scheps uses these to mix on the move. He did a mix with them and the guys at Abbey Road thought it was his final mix - it was that good. Soooooooo.

Being a neat freak of sorts I don't want the coil cord to get all stretched out so I added a length of braided fishing line down the center of coil cord tied at both ends to limit the stretch.*

So. I had M40x, 7506, a few Sennheiser and a pair of old vintage STAX headphones I'm looking for a new pair, because I have a Razer gaming headset. it's great for gaming, sucks for music. Should I get 7506 again or should I bet on Grado SR60E that I never had before? They're about the same price (~99€, 120$). I listen to all types of music, not a fan of a particular genre.

Long ago my pup chewed one of the earcup cables - still worked but eventually broke. That set me on a headphone journey. Found several great cans from $10 - 150, the most expensive of which being the only one that died (DT990 Pro bad driver). Last week, years later, for fun I dug up the old 7506 and refurbished them with soldering skills I never had back then. They are good as new and sound as fantastic as ever from lowest sub bass to sharpest highs. Structurally they are the *toughest* headphones I've ever had. Don't sleep on these - pick one up and keep it for life. (Just keep them away from razor toothed teething puppies.)

However, online reviews also point out that the AKG k371 are possibly better, and in the same price range. Have you ever tried the AKG? If so, how do they compare to the Sonys? I thought I commented on this back then. I've had a pair of these since 2012. Used pairs that belongs to other folks on and off for a decade before that. They'll easily last 5 years, if not 20. Mine have been re-padded twice - still stellar. They've mixed, recorded, done a ton of A/V work, all of it. And if they get stolen or stepped on they're not a crying $hame to replace. Killer cans.
