I think a5100 is ok, but clearly not perfect at all. The display is really a pain in the sun. Also the dial and button are not very reliable, had surprising problems in the cold. Missing ext. Flash option will also prevent some adv. Uses like macro. Sony need to create an update, incl. this and e.g. 4k video, in-cam focus stacking, etc.

I was actually thinking of selling my D5300 and buy a5100 and keep the change for my trading account. Or should I just switch to a6000 because I might as well? I've come to dislike my DSLR since it's bulky, big, and a hassle to take everywhere.

Still have and use my Nex-6, and it still takes great photos. I like the flip up screen, but I'd miss the EVF. The one complaint I have is the lack of any stabilization in either. Not many 6 year old cameras have IBIS though. I also use adapters with my vintage lenses, the focus peaking really helps and I've taken some great shots with them.
Came here seeking a review. The a5100 has a 24MP sensor. It also appears to work with the Sigma MC-11. So it would be a good second camera if you already have a 24MP.
Imo, flip up screen is much more functional than an eyepiece for video/youtube.

From a motorcyclist's perspective. I really don't trust the video stabilization on this thing to be anywhere near what my GoPro can do on my motorcycle.

I have had the a5100 for about 6 years now. It has been a wonderful camera until honestly the last months. The camera is no longer focusing well. everything is blurry or slightly out of focus. I have no changed any settings (im not very camera savvy so i usually leave it on Intelligent auto or superior auto). Im not sure if the lense itself is going bad or if it is a camera issue (has standard lens that came with camera). Ive tried doing a camera factory setting reset with no real improvement. Not sure what the issue is so debating do i spend money on a replacement lens or flat out replace the camera
Actually it doesn’t use Sony Play memories to transfer straight to your phone anymore. They changed it to “Imaging Edge Mobile” and it works pretty great imo I use it all the time.
I run two in my Channel. They do overheat bad.

You could get a Sony NEX F3, 5R or 5T for cheaper. Only thing this has going for it is better autofocus.

Avid this camera at all cost. It records only 8 minutes and then turns off from overheating. Canon M50 is a way better option

From a motorcyclist's perspective. I really don't trust the video stabilization on this thing to be anywhere near what my GoPro can do on my motorcycle.
If it gets rained on, who cares its just 450.00 hahahahahaha! Such an ugly thing to say.especially during a global pandemic. also your amazon links don't work because the camera isnt being made 's way more expensive now that its been discontinued.

This is a piece of crap! I will just throw it in the bin if I found it! My wife hid it and wait for me to calm down! It just stops randomly anytime without any sign! Sony is a joke since 2000!

I have had the a5100 for about 6 years now. It has been a wonderful camera until honestly the last months. The camera is no longer focusing well. everything is blurry or slightly out of focus. I have no changed any settings (im not very camera savvy so i usually leave it on Intelligent auto or superior auto). Im not sure if the lense itself is going bad or if it is a camera issue (has standard lens that came with camera). Ive tried doing a camera factory setting reset with no real improvement. Not sure what the issue is so debating do i spend money on a replacement lens or flat out replace the camera
Actually it doesn’t use Sony Play memories to transfer straight to your phone anymore. They changed it to “Imaging Edge Mobile” and it works pretty great imo I use it all the time.
I run two in my Channel. They do overheat bad.
No hotshoe; No way.

A go pro has great image stabilisation but this?
You could get a Sony NEX F3, 5R or 5T for cheaper. Only thing this has going for it is better autofocus.
