Hey there. Great video! I have an a6000. After my 1655 kit lens broke, I’ve been looking for a replacement. My main focus is video. And I want super smooth zooms I’ve been debating between buying another 1655 and the Sony vct-vpr1 remote since it gives the 1655 a slow steady zoom After seeing that the 18105 has a slow zoom on the lens itself, and constant f4, I realized this is a much better (albeit more pricey) option. My question is, do you know of a different APS-C lens with oss and power zoom with a slow smooth zoom function, that is smaller than this lens? Thanks again for ur great review

Hey there. So for video, you would say that it is not possible to easily get slow steady even zooming using the zoom switch on the lens? I was under the impression that it was possible to get slow even zooms using the button. is there some setting that limits it to a slow even zoom?

Please, please please do a test of 18-105 f4 on your A7R2 in only full frame mode in regards to sharpness(chart), bokeh & distortion(will require manual correction in Lightroom)

Christopher, I really enjoy your your videos, and somebody has probably already made this comment that owns this lens, but I'm not going to read all the comments, but at about 2:30 you say you can't get a very smooth slow zoom, but you TOTALLY CAN LIKE NOTHING ELSE. I have owned the lens about two years and use it effectively for such things as kids' soccer games and also chorus concerts and other concerts. If you put just the slightest pressure against the PZ slider, you can zoom so slowly it is almost imperceptible to the viewer (I hope). It allows changing the scene on live continuous performances/sports without having two cameras to inter-cut. I just did a simple test to post the result here, and on first try in my den, I did a zoom from 18 to 105 totally smooth that took 40 seconds. I am glad the 16-55 2.8 has finally arrived, and I think it is worth the (reduced $1200) price even though I'm not putting-out the dough for it right now, but I believe the 18-105 PZ is an almost-unique event-lens tool with respect to size, weight, cost and capability in camera history. Of course part of that is because the camera can make in-camera corrections that were impossible not-so-long-ago.
This of the Sony 16-55 on an a6400? =/ Would be an easy choice if Sony had put OSS in the 16-55 as well lol

Hi Jesus. It appears that you don't understand fully concept of aperture. At 3:40 sec of your video you mentioned that you prefer to use "small aperture". Well small aperture is a high f-stop number like f11 or f16. Small f-stop number like F1.4 or F1.8 that's Large aperture. Easy to remember method is large lens opening=large aperture and small lens opening=small aperture. Just wanted to clarify because at first I thought you like to shoot video at high f-stop which would be a very strange considering what you were saying.

Great video man, I’m having a tough time deciding if I want this camera or the a6500, I want to shoot photos but also a lot of video aswell, the only thing I’m stuck on is that the Sony a6500 can film up to 4K 60fps and the a6400 cannot, I’m getting the Sony 18-105mm lens for sure unless you think another one is better
