This is a utility lens. Not the sharpest but it covers the ranges. The strategy is to bring 1 prime + 1 utility
What about the video performace?
I'll keep my Sony 24-240. I just don't think the Tamron is enough sharper to give up the wider focal range and OSS.
tamron itself admits autofocus-problems with the 28-200 on their website and is working on a firmware update
Should I sell my Tamron 28-75 and buy this instead, for landscapes? Can it compete in sharpness? I'd be losing some light (variable aperture) but other than that, would I lose picture quality?
il hazard a guess and say sony whooped ass , before watching . iv had to send too many tamrons back in the past
I would encourage everyone to watch Dustin Abott ‘s review about this lens. Short summary: optically the tamron blows the Sony out of the water. It’s not even close
Sony has no zoom creep, so a lock is unneeded. OSS allows the Sony to use lower shutter speeds, off setting the Tamron slight F stop advantage. 28mm is often to tight for landscape or inside shoots.
You have almost no side-by-side shots. and the only one you do show, is at different focal length and aperture? thumbs down from me.
Fast glass always wins imo, I'd rather have the Tamron.

Having just bought a Nikon D850 with the 18-300 lens, if I was to buy one other than another Nikon lens, and having had a 70-300 Tamron for my older Nikon D90 I'd favour the Tamron, as the Sony wouldn't fit the Nikon anyway.

I'd get the Tamron as long as the body had IBIS. And just some minor feedback: saying "better depth of field" is ambiguous. We all know what you mean, but saying that the Tamron allows for a "shallower depth of field" would be more accurate and appropriate IMO :) Either way great video, and hopefully I can win one of these in the Insta giveaways :D
I think Tamron is better in terms of light and dof but for color I prefer Sony

The OSS of this lens is awful for handheld video shot. Hope Sony brings new firmware to fix that issue.
Yes, i feel the OSS of this lens compared to other lens isn't very effective for video, still struggling with micro shakes
Switched from Nikon to Sony some months ago and I am trying to find the right zoom for me, but it is impossible for now. Sony 28-70 is acceptable but not wide enough, I need that 24mm on a zoom. Sony 24-70 is acceptable, but very expensive and not worth it. Sony 24-105 is very expensive too. I miss my Nikon 24-85 VR and 24-120 f4, which were good and cheap. Sony needs to design a cheap 24-85 f4, or at least f3.5-4.5. This is the most useful range in my opinion. You have the wide 24 mm and on the other side get nice bokeh at 85mm f4 or f4.5. For now I am sticking with my Sony 28-70 f3.5-5.6 and I feel limited and downgraded from my Nikon zooms.
Is the manual focus linear ?
Apparently you have an earlier copy. Mine has no seam and the zoom and focus rings are smooth turning with no zoom creep. I can't detect any decentering either. The Chinese factory must have improved their manufacturing process since your copy. Mine appears to be equal the the 24-70GM in build quality. My serial number indicates that it is over 7,000 copies later then yours. This could account for the improvements. Sony has been offering discounts for the past year from time to time in the US.

Ive just played with mine got new and was pretty disappointed until I realised it need to be shot at f5.6 for really good quality, such a difference on mine from F4
4:26 If you factor-in the price, would you say you're getting more, or less for your money as compared to the 18-105mm lens (albeit FE vs E) ?

I wish sigma would make this lens for E mount. Was my favorite lens on my d750. Build quality was superb and much sharper than the nikon variant.
I am looking for a zoom lens to pair with Sony A7M3, would you recommend Sigma A 24–70 mm f/2.8 DG DN or Sony 24-105 f4 G OSS? The price in my country is absolutely identical. Those of you that had experience with both, in terms of bokeh, autofocus and image clarity, which would you recommend?

I was after the 18-200 lens but I went for this. The distance is not so great, but the sharpness for a zoom lens is very good. Great walkabout lens. Very pleased with it.

1:45 That overly stiff zoom action is something that really annoyed me in the 100-400 Gmaster. Not something you'd expect in a £2500 lens. I sold it. I hated the fact that the simple action of zooming the lens (while hand-held) caused the camera to move around all over the place, causing you to re-acquire your subject.
