Do you own this lens? Love it?
I got one mainly because of this video. I love it. A bit of corner and edge softness at f4-4.5 and at 24 f22. It's a bit too heavy for my liking and zooming in video is hard but otherwise it takes great photos.
1600 👍😉
is it silent?
To bad u did not zoomed in en out to see the range.
Is the zoom ring smooth enough to be used while recording video? Looking for a good option for action sports video work with fast-moving subjects. Thanks!
Sony 24-105 f4 vs tamron 28-200 2.8-5.6?
Great review! Thank you Stephan!!!
Debated this and the 24-70 f/2.8 but this lens seems to hold up just as well and has the extra FL range. It’s also $600 cheaper than the 24-70 used so I grabbed the 24-105 and a 24 f/1.4 GM with the extra cash I saved (plus $450) but still, two lenses for just $450 more than one lens is a great deal!
YES! Just bought it in November, use is on my Sony A7C, it is a good all around travel lens, then take a small fast prime and you have a nice small two lens kit (I have the Sony 28mm f2, others that I know have the Sony 55mm f1.8).
I love your real-world photography approach in reviewing this lens. I will go to you to help me evaluate a possible lens and or camera purchase in the future. Great 👍 job. Thanks, and keep up your thorough evaluation. 👌
Any thoughts on how it would perform with a APS-C sensor?
Anyone out there use this lens for videoing sports? (and zoom in/out while doing so)?
Does the Sony 24-105mm work well with shooting wild life (African Safari)? I’m also looking at the 24-240mm. Which one do u recommend? i’m beginner level. Thanks Stefan !
Is this lens as sharp, or close to as sharp, as the Sigma 24-70 2.8? Is it good enough for professional work--real Estate photography, for example?
PLS CAMERA SETTING IN SONY APHA 7RIII
thank you bro😅
Thanks for the review!
This lens works great on the DJI R2 pro gimbal. Just balance with lens barrel half way extended and the powerful motors on the R2 handle it with no issue. Not to mention the APS-C mode on the A7iii makes this lens even more versatile!
Thanks for the review. Could be the first ff lens to buy after I go ff. Only time will tell 😀
Does the OSS not work in connection with the IBIS to give better image stabilization?
So based on what I’m seeing the Sigma 24-70mm is optically sharper than the Sony 24-105mm. I am in between these two lenses to bring on backpacking trips.
I disagree on one point. The stabilization is better on this lens than the in body stabilization. It has been proven by several other persons. And it is good for video at constant f4 , also proven by others persons. It is more heavy than the 28-200 but the tamron has no stabilization and use ibis only and does mot have the 24mm for landscape but offer 100mm more range and a better aperture at low ramge. Where is your proof. I don’t see a sample on your footage comparing oss and another lens with ibis. Or even oss and without oss. I have seen other review and the lens is far better with oss on.sorry but i cannot trust your review
Watched a ton of your very good reviews, and decided that this lens is the one I'm buying. Your work is very much appreciated my dude.
The OSS of this lens is awful for handheld video shot. Hope Sony brings new firmware to fix that issue.
Yes, i feel the OSS of this lens compared to other lens isn't very effective for video, still struggling with micro shakes 😕
Switched from Nikon to Sony some months ago and I am trying to find the right zoom for me, but it is impossible for now. Sony 28-70 is acceptable but not wide enough, I need that 24mm on a zoom. Sony 24-70 is acceptable, but very expensive and not worth it. Sony 24-105 is very expensive too. I miss my Nikon 24-85 VR and 24-120 f4, which were good and cheap.
Sony needs to design a cheap 24-85 f4, or at least f3.5-4.5. This is the most useful range in my opinion. You have the wide 24 mm and on the other side get nice bokeh at 85mm f4 or f4.5.
For now I am sticking with my Sony 28-70 f3.5-5.6 and I feel limited and downgraded from my Nikon zooms.
Is the manual focus linear ?
Apparently you have an earlier copy. Mine has no seam and the zoom and focus rings are smooth turning with no zoom creep. I can't detect any decentering either. The Chinese factory must have improved their manufacturing process since your copy. Mine appears to be equal the the 24-70GM in build quality. My serial number indicates that it is over 7,000 copies later then yours. This could account for the improvements. Sony has been offering discounts for the past year from time to time in the US.
That was amazing! Thank you for including so many sample images, this is the perfect style for a lens review. First time on your channel, instant sub. Cheers!
great review thanks
Ive just played with mine got new and was pretty disappointed until I realised it need to be shot at f5.6 for really good quality, such a difference on mine from F4
4:26 If you factor-in the price, would you say you're getting more, or less for your money as compared to the 18-105mm lens (albeit FE vs E) ?
I just had to double check and MAKE SURE I was subscribed. Yes I was.
I wish sigma would make this lens for E mount. Was my favorite lens on my d750. Build quality was superb and much sharper than the nikon variant.
I am looking for a zoom lens to pair with Sony A7M3, would you recommend Sigma A 24–70 mm f/2.8 DG DN or Sony 24-105 f4 G OSS? The price in my country is absolutely identical. Those of you that had experience with both, in terms of bokeh, autofocus and image clarity, which would you recommend?
7:20 37mm?
Hey Christopher, could you please do a comparison with the Nikon Z24-70 f4, and the Sony 24-105 f4?
I was after the 18-200 lens but I went for this. imgs.love/Sony-Lens?fg The distance is not so great, but the sharpness for a zoom lens is very good. Great walkabout lens. Very pleased with it.
Thank you 🙏
My Full Written Review of the Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens with all the sample photos is now up for those interested here: https://www.sonyalphalab.com/my-sony-fe-24-105mm-f-4-g-oss-lens-review-lab-and-real-world/
I bought this 24-105 F4 G after deliberating for some time between this and Tamron 28-75 F2.8. Bought it used in mint condition at similar price to the Tamron.
Bokeh is "similar" between both, 105mm F4 and 75mm F2.8 due to compression factor,
F2.8 is 1 stop brighter than F4 BUT the OSS in Sony helped in recovering back some so I did shoot below the shutter speed = focal length rule and they're great too.
Then there are 24 vs 28mm and 75 vs 105mm which sealed the deal for me. Some reviews mentioned the Tamron is just a tad sharper and if that's right I didn't mind too because I have better range and the 24-105 is still a very sharp lens, I'm willing to forego that little sharpness for the range and versatility. This is one lens I have never regretted buying as majority of the time I knew I was shooting at F4, F8 or F11. I have F2.8 lens too but for night photography, it will be F1.8 or wider for me.
is it silent?
This is the best, and most detailed video I’ve seen yet about the 24-105 f/4 lens (and I’ve watched A LOT 😅) .
It’s so refreshing to see someone actually show the shutter speed, aperture and ISO whilst comparing these against the same shot; I’ve learned from your video that by slowing the shutter speed one stop every time I increase the aperture, I’ll get the balance right and can even get crispier photos with f5.6 or above as long as I slow my shutter speed accordingly.
Sorry for rambling but you’ve no idea how relieved I am to have found a video that explains the above in a way I understand. Every other YouTuber has confused me when trying to explain this. I love the longer format too as if makes a refreshing change from other peoples 8 minute ‘tutorials’ 🙄 honestly before I watched this I was considering returning my 24-105 G and saving a bit longer to get a 24-70 GM! Now I’ll 100% save my money and enjoy my lens 👌🏼
Great focal range examples given, and some awesome local food reviews to boot. I'm now both hungry, and planning on getting this lens once I pick up the camera I'm currently researching. Nice video!
You’re so underrated. First time watching, went to look how many subs you got. (Thinking Atleast a million) Thank you for this video, definitely ordering the lens. Gained another sub👍
Great review and precisely what I was looking for ! Thank you.
I was (and still am) debating between this lens and the Tamron 28-75 and the Sigma 24-70 Art. The non-Sony lenses come with f2.8 but only goes to 70/75mm. The Tamron is lighter/smaller/cheaper (compared to the Sony 24-105) and the Sigma goes to 24mm, and being an "Art" series lens, has professional build and quality. Still debating !
Great review. I should buy my next lens for travel and landscape photography. I'm undecidet between the Sony 24-105 f4 and the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 . I have the Tamron 17-28 f2,8 and is an amazing lens for the price. What's lens should I buy ?
For curiosity, which one is sharper for F4 between sony 16-35 F4 vs 24-105 f4 ?
Good video, i really enjoyed it! :) I have this lens for a few months now, using it with A7II, but its fantastic. Bought it for exactly $1200 USD total, and came with a free year of warranty, so 1+1, i think its a pretty good deal. Could be cheaper tho :D Used lenses are around 920-950, totally acceptable imo.
Dude, don't worry about "at the end of the day" comment I made on your other video. It was a joke. You make great content. Keep it up. Subscribed!
Love the lens, but I lost all interest as soon as I learned the weight. I moved to Sony from Nikon mainly because I wanted small lenses and a full frame sensor. The lens is currently selling at B&H for a little over $800 on EDU + Black Friday discount. I am tempted, but weight is killing it for me.
Deciding between this and the sigma 24-70 f2.8!
How does the image quality compare to primes like the 35 1.8 or the 85 1.8? Will I notice much difference? Thanks for the video!
I’m not sure if I’m watching a lens review or the food channel 😆. But seriously, I enjoyed your review, dude. Stellar job!
Quick question?... hope you get this. Been going crazy trying to decide between Sony 24 to 105 f4 or the sigma 24-70 2.8 i shoot mostly video and i will use it on a sony A7S III. I like having a longer zoom and more portable lens so i think the sony 24-105 will be better right?
1060 dolar per oktober 2020
Awesome - very useful - Thank You.
You're making me hungry !! 😂
I just ordered this lens and got it for $958 with edu discount and pre blackfriday competition against Amazon prime
Great lens. When Sony will release Sony A7IV?
This lense is rewlls bad without correction
hi Dustin. great review as always. I'm considering going to Sony from fuji. For travel I use fujis 16-55 and find it excellent for image quality. Can you comment on how these compare in IQ? Thanks!
Hello to everyone who is watching that video in 2020, when Sony 24 105 competes with Sigma 24-70 2.8 or Tamron 28-75 2.8
There is so many review and tests so I will not focus on quality of the lens and stills/videos it delivers.
But you need to be aware that the prices these days drops significantly, and I would say it doesn't cost a premium any more.
Situation in Europe:
- official Sony EU price: 1350 Euro
- regular price in the store: 1199 Euro
- special price in the store: 999 Euro
- cashback: -100 Euro
Your final price for the lens: 899 Euro !!!
In my opinion, for that price that lens is fully worth it.
And I'm happy to enjoy it for a couple of days :-)
Thank you Dustin for this and all the other reviews - it is very, very helpful, especially if your budget is limited and you must/need to aim into optimal lens for you needs (I am not a pro so basically you are limiting number of lenses you are using).
Best regards and stay safe!
PS: main reason to buy that lens is that I have decided not wait any more for Sigma 70-200 2.8 for Sony FE any more. I have decided to use combo Sony 24-105g and Sigma 100-400 DN instead of combo Sigma 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8. Ii is a more lightweight package with 2 times more reach ;-)
"I'll render a final verdict" Nice
Great review and yes it helps me with my decision. Keep up the great work.
Hello DA, I am considering buying this lens or the Sigma 24-70 f2.8. I am a landscape photographer, I have a Sony 70-200mm f/2.8, size and price are not too much of a factor. Really, the only factor I am considering is image quality. Given those factors, which one would you recommend for Landscape? I appreciate your reviews and just want to say your movies are a service to photographers.
I have had this lens for a year and the price is strong but that extra reach (105) is what I needed and has saved my bacon many times shooting event photography. Over all it works for me.
Your reviews are first class. I can’t thank you enough. Cheers!
i got it about $1050.

Thank You for your reviews. I had purchased this lens from B&H on sale for $1098.00 and am very happy with the results. At this point in my life I'm forced to use One or two zooms to keep cost down so it's nice to see a good and honest review. I'm using this combined with the A7III and will be upgrading my old A6000 soon to a newer A6xxx series. Thanks again.
I have this lens and it isn't sharp. I'll sell and get the sigma.
This is a good review of what I have found to be an excellent lens. Two observations: first, please remember that a zoom lens is not a prime. Primes are almost always going to be optically superior at any given focal length. To expect a zoom to perform like a prime is unrealistic. Second, PLEASE stop waving your cursor around in the detail frames. It is distracting and, frankly, irritating.
Very useful review Dustin, your knowledge is amazing, thank you very much for sharing it.
Love your videos !!!
Dustin, I just thought of something funny, & thought you might get a chuckle. I do masonry work . . . I've seen some block walls that I CERTAINLY don't think would be appropriate for lens testing! LOL . . . Let's just say the installer perhaps forgot his level that day ! LOL. Anyways, great review as always. Helped me make an educated decision. Thanks again.
If i use this 24-105 on crop mode a7iii whats the mm?
Thk you for this review... Someone try this lens on the Sony alpha 7 II?
I dropped the idea of 24-70 GM, and decided to get this FE 24-105G & FE 90 G Macro. And now I got turned off by the Barrel and Pin-cussion distortion that it originally has, without the body inteligence correction. Are all the G lenses originally less corrected like this?
What should I do? 🤔
If you can remember dose this lens have a 3d effect like the prime 50mm f1.4
