Anyone, especially Chris, have an opinion on whether they'd choose this lens (Sony E 70 - 350 f/4.5-6.3) or the new Sigma 100- 400mm f/5 - f/6.3? They about the same price. It would be used on a A6500 or other Sony crop sensor camera. Mostly interested in how the focusing compares. Thanks.

I just ordered this lens, and am excited to get it. I can't tell you how useful a super zoom is when traveling overseas. So many scenes as you travel will be missed without a quick zoom. I can't tell you how useful a zoom is when attending soccer games, etc. I will be using the following lenses now when I travel: Sony 70-350, Sony 18-135, Sigma 30mm/f 1.4, and a Meike 12mm 1.7. These lenses provide a really nice range and are all APSC-portable with my Sony A6600. Before setting out I try to eliminate at least one of the lenses to lighten the load. you really need to research what "focus breathing" actually means.
This is a fantastic lense. Sharp and light with image stabilisation. It fits my gear well on my a6400 (35mm equivalent = 105-525mm) together with my a7iii and the 24-105mm

This lens has me torn...I was getting ready to grab an 80-400 Nikkor, but I also shoot with my A6000 and saw this and now I can't decide which one I want. I got the A6000 mostly for a walk around camera, with my D7100 being my main and most of my glass is Nikon. I only have the 2 kit lenses that came with the A6000, and the 210mm is decent for limited birding, but I want that extra reach. Kind of trying to avoid going down the rabbit hole of lens collections for two brands, but this lens is tempting me to make the full switch to Sony.

I bought this lens yesterday (new) for 620€ + i got an 50€ gift card. WHich brings the price down to less than 600€ :O Im so hyped to take pcitures with this lens, but i still got to wait a few days until i can hold it in my hands.

What would be a great compromise is if Tamron released a 1.5x and or a 2.0x teleconverter for their 70-180mm f/2.8 lens which would give you a 105-270mm f/4 or a 140-360mm f/5.6...

I recently received my copy of this lens - I find zooming in and out to be very stiff and not like any of my other Sony zooms - anyone else noticed this stiffness or is it just me ??
Can I use it on a Sony A7 II or III? Is it compatibel with the mount of these camera's?

What is the autofocus like?
With all these new line on crop sensor lenses we do have today, I’m strongly thinking on jumping back to a6k line, a6600, 16-55 2.8, this lens etc. really appealing, maybe a comparition with the upcoming Sigma for FF?. I believe that if Sony come out with an equivalent to 70-200 2.8 ( maybe 50-135 2.8), many people could also jump back to Sony Crop. Actually Sigma has a drsl 50-100 1.8!! 🤔😁

I am quite happy with my 70-350mm OSS lens. When I was a Canon guy, my long lens was the 100-400mm Mark-ii which I normally used on my Canon 7D Mark-ii in order to take best advantage of the crop factor... However, that combination was quite heavy and I did not use it as much as I had expected or hoped to. I decided not to purchase either the Sony 100-400mm or 200-700mm lenses. Instead, I opted for the 70-350mm OSS lens. It is slightly shorter in max focal length than the Canon 100-400 but, I gain 30mm on the wide side. The main thing is that the 70-350mm OSS lens on the Sony A6600 is less than half the weight of the Canon 100-400 mounted on my 7D2 body. I own the Sony 85mm f/1.8 lens so the relatively narrow aperture of the 70-350mm lens doesn't cause me problems with portraiture... The capability to shoot at slower shutter speeds by combining the OSS of the 70-350mm lens and the IBIS of my A6600 body allows me to shoot using smaller apertures... And I agree with J DX: a removable tripod collar would be a nice addition...
