hi john, i saw both your reviews for m3 and m5. im considering getting either an m3 or m5. the price difference is quite significant. is there much difference between the two? i'm not a professional photo taker and jsut use it for capturing travel moments.

when taking the photos shown here in japan did you have it in a manual mode where you were changes the settings or did you use the modes on the camera? need something to take travelling to get high quality images like this but without having to mess with manual modes as I have no idea about stuff like that.

I own a mark I and for light travelling I like it. But I miss the viewfinder. I have a lot of camera's and making photo's I am kind of addicted to a viewfinder. Is it worth the expensive update, yes I believe so. The new lens also nice, but I was happy with the RX100. Now I am waiting, order it online. 580 euro's. It is the viewfinder mainly, maeby I sell the mark I. It is not that I love the results, they are under par in comparison with my Canon 6D. But a 6D or in fact any camera is not so easy to take with you. I love this Sony for it's size.

I'm not sure if you've used a Canon G7X, but if so, I'd love to know which you think is the better of the two with regards to video quality and auto focusing. I've heard each one can be a bit unreliable with focus at times.

Nice and compact, well designed and takes tack sharp images with lots of color. Love it.
Nice review. I think the RX100 iii has a nice sweet spot in the market. I would suggest the milestone RX100 models outside of the original are iii and vi. Rational being most features are broadly similar throughout the range, with incremental but not revolutionary changes on the feature set for the most part. The big exception to this is the lens. The iii introduced the 24-70 1.8-2.8 lens, a big step up on the previous generation. The vi introduced the 24-200 2.8-4.5 lens, trading off max aperture through the range in exchange for a considerable boost in optical zoom. I think those are the really big changes for most people unless you specifically need things like phase detection, 4k etc. So if you want value and the best lens the camera offers for portraits, RX100 iii is the sweet spot. If you want value and the most versatile lens the camera offers, RX100 vi is the sweet spot.(of course disclaimer, I specifically include "value" in the analysis because otherwise the answer will always be to buy the latest of course - they don't downgrade them over time!)

I have filmed all my videos with rx100 III - the only downside that i see is that you need to record audio separately.
