A tip for that focus ring. Order a $2 focus ring from tilta. I bought them for video but I use them on my zeiss classics for photography. They work great for manual focusing by hand too! Easy to find and a great grip.
Zeiss is sharper in the corner, brighter richer colour reproduction, better contrast.. i sold my FE 85mm because of duller colour, low contrast, slow and inconsistent AF.. now i own Sony Zeiss 35/F28 & 55/F18.. never regret it.. best purchase i've ever made.. never gonna go to standard sony lens other than Zeiss, G & GM.. i dont know how you creators judge pictures.. its a shame..

The Sony FE is weathersealed. You said it's an advantage of the Zeiss but both have it.

Funny. Two professional reviewers: "Identical .. just identical". I ask a person I know, who is almost completely oblivious to photography which images she likes best in this comparison: consistently - Batis (reason: color).

this was my first lens ever, and as a beginner I didn't know how to use it properly. Now after shooting for a year and a half I have decided to purchase this lens again, and while watching this video I am jumping out of my seat at these shots and my good decision making in revisiting this old friend. It comes in tomorrow, cannot wait.
Now that I’m shooting film, it’s so easy to notice how generic so much digital photography seems. It seems like every one shooting with the same stuff looks the same, no one is particularly creative, and every thing always looks so flat and overly edited and fake. I’m not talking necessarily about these shots, though they fit in there, too. But I don’t think I’ll ever go back to shooting primarily digital.
if they are compared like that, the cheap FE is the winner !

The Focus Lock button made me choose for the Sony 1,8/85mm. Makes the difference in a lot of shots. Will add the new Sony 1,8/35mm to my collection asap for the same reason. What a wonderfull lightweight three lens set that will be, together with the Zeiss 1,8/55mm Sonnar.
Would the Batis's LCD screen effect battery life?

I SERIOUSLY disliked his presence and his conduct on the shoot - just rubbed me the wrong way. However I'm about to check out with a Sony 85mm and this is the last review I am watching. Informative and good comparison. Could have used more shots with movement etc to push auto-focus etc but we all know by now Sony 85mm has great autofocus. I do think that Zeiss renders differently spatially - her face shape looks slightly different on each lens.

My favorite lens is Miss Caballero (love you so much) ...So Batis have more Clarity...same sharpness...and winner is G by Sony,because is much cheaper!

Ive used that shitty Sony FE by renting it...The Batis is worth the extra money -- its an investment whereas the SOny FE is just getting by. Other than that Id rather go with the Sigma 85 mm also than the FE(FE stands for F'ing excrement) lol . But if you dont have the funds the Sony FE is a last resort for a native lens .
You cant tell if it looks the same on the camera's LCD display - you need to view in on a proper resolution laptop

Both lenses are so sharp that coupled with a 42MP sensor, they come w/ Lightroom instructions on How to Use Gaussian Blur. Mandatory.
