Amazing shots
Looks better for portrait than actual macro on flowers etc
Hi Arthur, i’ve been enjoying your channel for a long time now!
I want to purchase my first macro lens to go on the SONY eight 6100. But I have two issues with this 50 mm lens.
One, I’m worried about the hunting for focusing. Focusing is one of my challenges.
Two, I had a problem with SONY and their customer service recently so I bought a Tamron lens. It is by far my favorite lens. So I am wondering if you have a Tamron macro lens that you might recommend?
thanks bro
The 90mm is too heavy for me. Especially considering that much of macro photography is close to the ground. Plus considering the fact that I tend to hike a lot with my gear, I will often opt to leave the 90mm at home to save on weight
Is this or the 30mm one good for product shots like watches, for my online store?
Best review!
Sold this lens awhile back. No complaints. You can find some real bargains if you are patient. Just needed the 90mm focal length.
My 85GM is slow too. Im getting one of this for my a74. Thank you for review.
Exactly the review I was looking for. I was especially keen on seeing how the lens behaves with the A7C. The macro images demonstrate the lens's ability very well, and the portrait shots reveal a nice bokeh, even with a 2.8. Yeah. Focusing's a problem.suffering with a 50/1.8. Yikes! Thanks for another winner, Arthur.
How does the 50mm 2.8 macro compare to the 50mm 1.8 oss for portraits?
I just got this lens and I agree with this review. It's so small and pleasing to use. AF is a bit iffy but I feel like every part of taking a macro is a pain, from getting your subject to be still, to getting yourself to be still, to getting focus, and everything. At least on the latest Sony cameras, I don't feel like the AF is glaringly bad. Moreover, I just really like it as a general-purpose lens and it's small and affordable (I bought it used) enough to just have around even if I don't use it all the time, whereas pro macro lenses, though obviously better, are so large and expensive that if you're not taking macro photos regularly, they don't justify their price for me. I don't think I'd get this lens if you're mainly taking pictures of small, moving subjects like insects, but I think if you're mainly doing still life macros, this is more than good enough.
Hello Arthur, comparing the Sigma 70mm art macro and the Sony 50mm macro, which of the two is better in your opinion? They have a similar AF system and the focal length is also comparable.
The best allround lens ever ! I love it !
Very good video on this lens which just purchased. I have the SONY a7rIV. Regarding the APC-S camera, if I set my camera to APS-C, then it seems as if I now effectively have an APS-C camera. Is that correct?
effectively
Sony macros are asspensive, even used on eBay.
I like all of this man’s videos. He’s intelligent and articulate
wait a minute, when did you switch to new audio gear? Do you still use your Zoom with the lapel/lav mic?
I just received this lens and I am very excited by its resolving power and versatility. Not only do I now have a very sharp lens with extremely precise focusing at a normal focal length, but also true macro capability. The sharpness of the lens reveals the high resolution of my A7 RII; and when this lens is used on my A7 RII in APS-C mode (18 mp), or an APS-C camera (24 mp), I also have an effective focal length of 75 mm, so I can get usable macro shots at a more comfortable distance away.
Please, make some selection of presented photos. These "macro" shots mostly awful and much out of focus (portrait are nice).
Do you find lenses that are not just one trick pony to be more fun to use?
Can this lens be used with Sony a6000(APS-C) for macro photography?
Thanks for your lovely going to get this lens ill enjoy this lens as you were
Hey Pav, big fan of your channel and it would be great to sit down and have a beer sometime.
I have one question about this lens. I've been using it for a long time at work on Sony cameras, but privately I have a Lumix S5, so I thought I'd ask you which Lumix lens would you recommend that is closest to this one? That he can get so close to the product like that and when he needs it, he can give decent bokeh. Cheers
Thank you for the great video review! Cheers from the States.
Hi mate, can a cpl filter be added to this lens as I photograph my tattoos and need to be able to remove the glare, thanks mate
#krówka
Would this lens work with Sony ZvE10? Want to order.
Is this a better lens for portraits than the fe 50mm f 1.8 on a sony a7riv body?
Great review, thanks
Gracias.
Hi Pav, is this lens suitable for food photography?
Dress it work with Sony Apsc?
hello can you attach a CPL filter on it?
in the webpage says 55mm and your video says 52 is that for the extended barrel os something like that?
thanks and its a great video
Thank you so much for the review! I’ve been on the hunt for a low cost macro lens for product photography and I think I’ve found it! Your review just sealed the deal.
I was thinking about a macro lens and this vídeo show me the results and help me to take a decission, so you have a new suscribers and thank you for your work
Great review. If you don't have any macro lenses now, will you buy 50mm or 90mm as the first one for your work? I appreciate for your sharing your idea.
Is it good for focus stacking? What about focus breathing?
Con que le te grabas ?
I spotted polish "Krówka" sweets there greetings
While is covers full frame, this lens is at its best on APS-C where is is the equivalent of 75mm. An unsung hero of a lens that usually gets forgotten about.
How about autofocus noise? I’ll would use for wedding video.
Hi, is it the suitable macro lens for full face details ?
Can you recommend a macro lens (e-mount) for dental photography please?
I own the lens. No complaints. Shoot alot of coins for ebay, it is good general purpose lens, and it is cheap. Alot of value. Got me out more shooting things in my yard and looking at the world differently.
is any good on sony a6400?
Dude all the photos you took were soft. bad lens or bad examples?
Sony 50mm macro compared to Sony 30mm macro
Have you done a video to compare both?
how near have to get to subject? good for live insects?
Is this lens good for toy photography? Or do you recommend something else? Thanks
May I ask which circle light you are using in front of the lense?
I'm rather disappointed you didn't show any examples of closer macro work. Like insects
I think Samsung nx mini macro lens is better
Джон Сисон, услышал имя, дальше смотреть не смог
John how good would this lens be for video with the Sony A7III
16mm, not 16cm :) Good review.
Not a walk-around lens? Whaat . why?
I can walk around with my 40F2.8 or 50F1.8 and extension tubes no problem and this 50 seems even more convenient.
How's the bokeh? I'm interested for wedding, taking pictures of ring, but then I'll need a really shallow depth field, would be good for that?
Hi, I have the a6500 sony camera and the same lens you have. How come it's blurry whenever I tried to take a photo? Plus the lens doesn't stay still. It keeps coming out and in.
Haha great review love the out takes at end superb lol
For me, the 50 mm macro lens is the best " always " - objektive of all. I love it !
Thank you for all the helpful tips. I think you have a UV filter on there. Do you recommend using a UV filter in this lens?
What is aspect ratio n why is 1:1 important? What would the image look like if it’s 1:2 or something?
Nice work here DJ! My Sony 90mm macro is cool for portrait and in studio, however focus breathing makes too difficult for outdoors as in garden. I look into acquiring this 50mm!
I just received this lens and I am very excited by its resolving power and versatility. Not only do I now have a very sharp lens with extremely precise focusing at a normal focal length, but also true macro capability. Does anyone make a bad macro lens? NO! I do a lot of macro with my Sony a850, a900 and a77 using the A mount Sony 50 f2.8, 100 f2.8, Tamron 60 f2 and Tamron 180 f3.5. Of all these lenses my favorite is the 180, super sharp and amazing quality at a bargain price!
I spent some time playing with one of these and I found the autofocus practically unusable. By comparison my Panleica M4/3 45 macro is perfect in this respect. It seemed to work fine as a manual lens (I normally shoot Leica so that is ok). I really liked the focal length which suits me for documentary photography of craftsmen and details of their work but that autofocus is so frustrating. The question is whether there is a manual alternative that will suit the Sony A7iii?
Macro lens is very interesting! I also have one. I enjoy shooting every day ♬ Thank you for the video! With love from Japan :)
I’ve just purchased a Sony A7iii with a Sony 35mm 1.8 lens for product photography. I’m wanting a shallow depth of field look, but it seems to blur too much (blur is encroaching on the edges of product). I’ve tried various settings with the Aperture, all with same results. I wonder if this Sony 50mm macro would help my end goal better? I also heard zeiss is a quality choice too. Thanks for your help!
Came here for the button explanation and i was not disappointed. Thank you.
Nice review. I wanted a macro for a long time. Seems i found the one. 50mm seems good!
Does this lens shoot good portrait photography too?. What would the bennifet be to spend the money on the 90 mm Sony macro. Your pictures are so good makes me want the lense-but it may be your skills
Wtf is this dude saying 1:1 aspect ratio It's 1:1 magnification ratio.
What camera did u use? Is this lens fit to sony A5100?
over exposure, and talking about .declining trust
nice review
macro lense for macro photography. Thanks for clarifying.
This would work for video as well right?
thank you
your intro is so good
This guy knows nothing about macro, getting closer at 1:1 is not a good thing, you can get 1:1 with much greater working distance with longer FL macro lenses.
