My first "real" cricket bat was a Slazenger (a 'Polyadmour'?) - they were good bats in their day. As a tteen I got a GM (Gunn & Moore) and never used anything else after that. Interestingly, Australian greats Mark and Steve Waugh used Slazenger and GM respectively. Mark was considered the technically better batsman but Steve scored more runs and had a higher average. Did their choice of bat make a difference? I'll let you argue about that!
A little bit of a snobbish video. Slazenger bats are made in the same factory as New Balance (FC Sondhi) in India. If it had NB stickers on it would be more than double the price and would be looked at completely differently. If we look back through your reviews you were stocking Slaz bats a few years ago? Still made in the same place now.

That’s a fielding and practice bat for about a year. If I get a bat that’s pressed too hard I just give it to a junior for a year.
Slazenger’s grade 1* bats are fantastic. Very very good value for money and genuinely are player’s grade
It is hard because Sports Direct do not expect good players to be using them because they are cheap. For example, it would be expected a good player , with a good bat would prepare it and take care of it properly. A not so great player or occasional player will probably not bother preparing it by proper oiling and knocking in, and therefore expect to use it straight away. Pressing it hard will help protect it from damage. But it will detract from initial performance. However, if that bat is thoroughly oiled, knocked in and prepared it more than likely will come good eventually. It will just take a lot longer than a softly pressed bat. It could take a couple of seasons to really open up! On the other side of the coin, Slazenger Pads and Gloves, and especially their Pro Thighpad Combo are very good. Their bags are as good quality as anything out there. We use 3 of the Slazenger Ultimate Wheelie Bags for all our coaching gear. Best bags out there that we have used in terms of toughness, build quality and size. Trust me, these bags are used everyday and get some real abuse. Im lucky enough to know the guy who used work as a master bat maker at Slazenger and used to make bats for the pro's when Slazenger were good. Before they got bought out by Sports Direct. He now runs Warrior Cricket up in Wakefield. Ian makes some fantastic bats, and still has all the original jigs for making the classic Slazenger bats like the original V12 etc.

Had a couple of sports direct slazenger bats, the latest one I got cost me £60 and it was taken back to Australia by the pro we had at my club he liked it that much. Once prepared properly they are actually good bats. So I'd recommend proper preparation and then give it a blast in the nets and see
Suspect it's a bit of a raffle. Six months ago I purchased a Slazenger V12 Grade 1 from Sports Direct for around 220 GBP. It's excellent. Having said that I also bought a badminton racquet and was sent a GM Mana cricket bat :-)

Genuine you say it’s unresponsive does that mean it would require more knocking in or is it more that it’s just not a very good piece of wood. Interested in the divergence between all those good looking grains and performance of a plank!
