What do you think about this lens on a new mirrorless Canon camera?
Great Video! I have been wanting to purchase this lens for a long time now I just am wondering if the focusing issue would still be the same if I use mirrorless camera? I currently have Eos R and would the focusing problem similar to the DSLR shown on the video? Thank you!
Hey Christopher! Do you know if this lens works well with R5C in video mode? I had issues with the tamrons of this world in the past so wonder if this one works OK. The 160-600 EF seems to work fine, I assume this one as well?
My favorite lens by far, I use it on my 90D and RP, and it's performs exceptionally on both, no calibration needed. Mine is razor sharp at 1.4, and rarely shoot stopped down from that.
Best portrait lens but no portait picture shown in the video.:P

Hi Chris, The DSLR Version of this lens has auto-focus issues when shooting through optical view finder as you said in the video. Does this lens have the same issues with mirror-less cameras also (e.g. EOS-R, M6 mar ii using adaptor) ?

i used this on a d90 for 2 years. now I have a z6ii and an ftz mount adapter and it's just.beautiful. worth the extra bulk of the ftz adapter rn.
I've just received this lens and was originally planning to use it for video work. Strangely, it seems like the auto focus does not work in video mode. Can anyone confirm? Or is there any solution to that?
I would never buy this lens for a DSLR. At least not for Canon. Sigma lenses, are pure nightmare in AF accuracy.
I has this lens, comparing to 50 1.4 and 50 1.4 art, 85 ex dg seems much more shaper than 50 1.4 and i would upgrade to art if i has 50 1.4. But It isn't too useful when it is upgrade from 85 ex dg to 85 1.4art ，it is a lot heavier for gaining the extra be honest,the only weak point of 85 ex dg is chromatic aberration at 1.4 aperture.Compare to other 85mm ,it is much cheaper for useful 1.4 aperture.

Thank you so much for this review. I was leaning over, but this video tipped me over to get this one over the ART. The only small complaint I would have about the lens is that there's a bit of chromatic aberration. I don't know how it'd compare to the ART, but it really isn't a big deal when I can easily get rid of that in post.

Just bought one at a steal for 420 dollars. Super sharp, super shallow DOF, I'm glad people are so infatuated with the latest and greatest so it drives the price of perfect lenses like these down.
Hi Dustin, i do not know if you will read this but: i've got a R6 and my two options for a 85mm 1.4 are this sigma (the "old" because the art is too heavy) and the canon ef 1.4. What do you think? The canon is heavier, really (i have it) and i think to buy this sigma. Thank you, again:)
The big problem of this lens is that it underexposure the imagens because of the lack of t-stop. It makes the Same Settings of the 85 mm 1.8.

I am actually finding this lens very intersting now that the art came out. It is much lighter with only 735g and it's actually sharp enough for most use (i doubt to see a difference on a 5d mark ii). Do you think it is better to go for the tamron wich has vc or 1.4 is a big diffrence? Since I can find this old sigma for 500 boxes second handed.

Are you going to review the Art version as soon as it get's released to the public. I would like it tested against the Milvus, cause I would be willing to sell my Milvus if the Sigma outperforms with autofocus

I have had this lens for over a year and love it ! I'm not having problems focusing in low light and its crisp from edge to edge with no fringing, it is the only lens i wouldn't let go not even for double what i paid for it ! on a canon 5D

i thought about saving g for then 1.4 G nikkor but nikkor charges a butt load for their gold ring lenses for bugger performance over tamron and sigma . Yep be .careful with DOF at 1.4

I have this lens since 2011. Sharp, it is. but the CA and color fringing is pretty bad. But I guess they say it's common with fast lenses when shooting wide open, and it's easily fixed in Lightroom.
I have this lens I love it. It hunts when the light is dim and does a little tapping/rattling noise while it is at it (on 5Dmk3).

Except the focus struggling in Low light situations , This lens is awesome to have it on the Camera .
I absolutely love this lens for all the reasons you stated, but I have had the same issue when in dark areas. It does amazing when there is plenty of light! But with little light or dark shaded areas, it does tend to struggle. Great review! Wish more people would give this lens a try!
