Got the old one with the aperture ring. Phenomenal lens and not just for macro.
Hello ,Does this lens make pretty bokeh at a distance of 1.50m or 2m? is the bokeh as important at 2 meters as at 35 cm?
I just got one of these lens a couple of days ago and my auto focus is much more noisier than what you show. Is my lens defective? It seems to work okay but just noisy auto focus. Sounds like this on this guys video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeT2tOs_1R8
UPDATE - I sent the lens back for an exchange and the exchanged lens was doing the same thing. I'm suspecting that the company didn't send me a replacement but just sent back the same lens because it was packaged the same way that I sent it. Sigma didn't have it packaged that way when I originally received it. If you ever exchange a lens, get the serial number before you exchange it. I failed to do that but the packaging was very telling. Does anyone else have auto focus problems with this lens and is yours noisey? It worked fine with AF off and I also turned off the image stabilization but then what's the point of paying for something that doesn't work properly?
Chris, 2:42 I don't think this lens goes down to f/32 (at least my copy doesn't) I think its f/22 minimum mate. Correct me if I'm wrong though?
Great review as always, really enjoying all your reviews. I think you forgot to mention the Focus limiter switch that can make the lens AF much faster. Also the lens has variable aperture, the closer you get to a subject the smaller the aperture goes. Not constantly f2.8! Cheers
When I first got this lens I was surprised how loud the OIS was when it automatically turns off after releasing the shutter button, it doesn't sound right, so I thought the lens was broken, but it seems to be normal. Other than that I really like it, it's currently my favorite lens and I took so many great pictures with it.
Would be nice to see with and without lens hood when testing contrast against a bright light. To see the difference. Just a suggestion.
Excelent lens. I had this lens with Nikon D750. And also I have it with Sony A7III + MC-11. Great combo for macro shooting.
Im buy now for Nikon D810. Nice price on this moment.
Would you say this is sharper than the canon 60mm f/2.8 ?
Chris Please do some review of Sony 200mm-600mm G lens ❤️❤️❤️
Excellent lens. I love it!
But after updating the firmware of my Nikon, it stopped working!
The only solution, they told me, was to buy their dock to update the lens firmware, or to send the lens to Sigma to update the firmware.
Finally, I reinstalled the previous firmware on my Nikon...
It is excellent for macro and still life photography, but does not focus well on long distances or infinity.
Picked this up on the eBay grey market for ~475 AUD/364 USD. Best purchase I ever made.
Canon EF 24-70 vs RF 24-70 !!! Please !
One of those classic must have lenses this like a 50mm 1.8. I’ve just bought myself this for Christmas after much faffing about with macro rings.
Are all photo samples you provide in your videos unedited ?
I’ve been subscribed to you for years, and I just want to say please don’t ever change your lens review workflow. It’s the best way for us to compare the newest lenses with the much older ones, or simply just other recent lenses, since it’s basically the same exact test for each lens.. and the basically identical repetition just makes things so comparable. Thanks for being such an honest, non-biased lens reviewer.
Thank you for the review! I've been waiting for it since video where you compare 6 macro lenses. Which one would ju suggest, Laowa 100mm or this Sigma? They've got different pros and cons and I can't decide :D
Hii..sir can i use this lence fr nikon D750 fr wedding...
Chris, do you have any connection with kr? Well, you reviewed some of Samyang lens and there is korean paper money in this video:)
I still dont understand the purpose of APSC lens hood adapter..
Please does anyone know if this will fit a Canon Eos ?
if its a 1:1 macro lens then if on a D5600 aps-c would the ratio be 1.5:1? also, when on a crop sensor camera does the minimum focus distance change?
What is the best between this one or canon 100 mm f2.8 ? Thanks
Can I use this lens as a portraits lens or this lens only use for macro photography? thank you so much...Like your channel very much
Would love to see how the Canon mount performs on an Sony a6300 with Sigma MC11 in video !
Thanks Digital Goja for your videos and avices :)
I've had this lens for a couple or more years now and I just can't get on with it. (used on a D500)
Even with the aperture closed down, I find the depth of field minute. I was trying to take a photo
of a spider which was only about 3 mm long, and I couldn't get it all in focus. Maybe a tripod
is essential ?
Need to see how it performs.... locking on focus for macro and portraits etc. Price and "beauty" means nothing unless it performs as well as a Nikon 105!
this lens is better with crop sensor or full frame camera?
What is the best between this one and the 105 mm nikkor?
I m french and this lens cost 300 euros less than the nikkor...
so this one can be used with croped sensors as well. i guess is not recommended for travel use if we have a crop sensor becaise of this extra lens parts right? Thanks
Has anyone managed to use this with a Nikon D5600? I have that camera but the autofocus just won't work (the info screen just constantly flicks between AF and Manual). Cheers.
Izzy, hello I have another question regarding Sigma lenses. I recently bought a Sigma 18-250 micro and in a recent comment to you in another video, I had asked you would 70-200 f/2 be an overkill. You said yes, you had recommended that I search for Sigma prime lens. Here I am again with that one question, I have a t6 I photograph in monochrome I photograph everything but weddings and kids. I love my 18-250 it's an awesome lens. Please, I've done my research but would like your opinion is my 18-250 to close 105 to each other? With the 105 I plan or hope to do some portraits and maybe some close up candid shots of people in the city that I live. Please, can you advice thank you. Rod
Hi i have the nikon D7200 does that lens 105mm sigma macro work with these camera ? I need it for macro photography.
Will autofocus work with a Nikon D3300 without the AF built in
I want to use this for nature, street, portrait and landscape. will it work well that way?
If i have APS-C (D5600) i need use both hood? aps-c and full frame together?
Is it compatible with the D7000? Thanks :)
Can I use this lens in Nikon D500?
This lens I am using for many years, great lens
I h8 watching macro lens review being used as a portrait lens most of the video. But this guy don't.
Thank you for this video! I am a rookie and love macro photography and wanted something beginner-friendly for my camera. This helped a lot!
The nikon 105 is $1000 here. And the sigma one $600 🙈
Review of the same lens but in 2020?
Just picked up a mint one with everything in the box for 250€. Can’t wait to use it with my 5d classic
I've just seen this video, after I bought the 105mm. I agree with all the mentioned stuff. This lens is awesome.
The lens works as intended for macro purposes. I wish the auto focus and OS was more silent. If you intend to use it as a mid telephoto prime lens, it may not satisfy you in terms of sharpness. I have been using it for 5 years now and I am currently worried because of mold growing on the glass elements. It is not weather sealed and you need to keep it away from humidity. My other lenses are also kept in the same environment, but none of them have developed fungi. Sigma service is not that great in India, something to keep in mind if you run into issues like me.
Low contrast and low colour saturation, I regretted my purchase, even as second hand..
Hi. Thanks for this video. I found this lens today and wanted an straightforward honest review of it which is exactly what you’ve provided. Thank you.
Very well-made and useful video. Thank you very much. I'm off to get a Sigma as a result.
i'm just thinking about buying this lens, think you helped me make y mind up, thanks :)
It works great on my Nikon Z6 with the adapter.. I had it for about 4 years and never really used it because I used Tamron 70-200 2.8.
I've heard the bokeh on the canon is unrivalled, what's your thoughts on this fine example?
just got mine today so looking forward to getting out with it thanks from trev
Just bought one for my 1dmk3 + 5dmk2 - Moved away from SIGMA lenses about 10+ years ago, but they have upped their game in build quality, they really have. Nice review, and good smoke :)
Wondering to buy use one for about 200$, but I don't know your picture samples are little bit blurry ?
Good day, may I know if this is an internal zoom lens or external?
Does this lense work with the Nikon z6? I have the ftz adapter
I've had this lens since 2017, but am now going to sell it. Not because I don't like the lens
but because I've only used it about three times. I have found the minute depth of field
difficult to live with.
Beautifully photographed! Great narration. The Sigma is a great lens.
17:13 that photo sold me i just bought that lens!
Hi there, I bought the same lense and I am not happy with it. Losing my focus when I take my pictures closer to the subject. You can see samples on my channel.
Did you use stacking to make it sharper ? i got the same lens but i cant get this sharpness using my 80d
Nice pictures, i have a nikon D5300 too, thank you for your review, you have convinced me to get one
Lens shipped inside a plastic bag, how dangerous. Even though the lens is in a Sigma box and Sigma does a good job of packaging their products it's careless by the sender. Make sure you have a good copy and all elements inside the lens is aligned. I'm thinking about this lens vs the Tamron 90 f/2.8 VC because it's half the price, good to see the lens doesn't extend while focusing. Keep in mind if you are new to macro that AF hunts, it doesn't matter what brand you are using.
are these pictures made with just this lens or did you use an extender as well? ( just saw the first part, ignore this comment (a))
Been trying to look at reviews for this as about to buy one. As the price is really good. Have to say was really impressed with the images at the end and you have convinced me to get one.
