I just bought Sigma 100-400mm f/5-f/6.3 DG OS HSM C lens. First impressions - this lens has outstanding image quality. Maybe it is dark due to aperture 5 to 6.3 but the price is small for the image quality. I recommend it for anybody who has DSLR camera. I use it with Nikon D7500.

Can you please help me? At the moment I have a D7200 with a 70-300mm DX VR lens and i'm wondering if it is worth it going for the Sigma 100-400mm for wildlife photography? Is there a big diffirence between 300mm and 400mm on a cropped sensor for wildlife? Or should I wait and get a Sigma 150-600mm?

It cost around the same of new af-p 70-300 4.5-5.6E VR Nikon FX version. They seems to be similar in sharpness, but how about 1/3 stop less light? I'm using D610. I have old af-s 70-300 Nikon and is too soft wide opn at f5.6

I have the 150/600 sport the 120/300 sport the 70/200 and just purchased the 100/400 contemporary recently yes it lacks a tripod collar but I don’t feel the lens is to heavy to be supported by a tripod base attached to the base of the camera body the lens is only 2:4 pounds and is not a heavy lens by any means so until they come up with the biggest complaint of not having the tripod collar deal with it or just carry it

I have use this lens over the summer. Great to use and a stellar performer.
Whilst the image quality, stabilisation, auto-focus, build quality and handling are all very good, the one failing here is the lack of a tripod collar. Although this puts more strain on the lens mount than necessary on a DSLR, with the Canon mount lens attached to a Sony mirrorless body via the Sigma MC-11 adapter, I don't think that configuration is acceptable. At the moment, there don't appear to be any after-market tripod collars for this lens and the only option might be to wedge a Sigma TS-31 collar (designed for their 120-300mm lens) onto the narrow section of body behind the switches. nice video! i had the Sigma 150-600 C , is this 100-400 as fast (or faster) in adquiring focus and tracking in AF-C ? i know its not a canon 100 400 II but i could sucessfully tracked bif with the 150-600 C at 600mm with a 7dii, thanks!
The stabilization on the Sigma was my concern. While I think the Sigma is probably sharper than the Tamron 100-400 in the corners, I'm concerned about the stabilization. However, I don't think it's as bad as you make it seem in the video (based on other video's I've seen of it). HOwever, at the same time, I have heard the Tamron's is a bit better overall 3:52 Are you sure that's high pitched "squeal" is normal? I'd think the lens would be quieter than that when focusing. Tamrons are very quiet, and the only other lens I had that sounded similar to that was my 70-200 Nikon (VR) when the AF motor was going out.
Trying to decide between this lens and the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM II, I'm leaning towards the latter but the lack of weather sealing is a major flaw. Is the sigma worth the extra $250?

I use this lens on my EOS 90D and it works great! I use it for wildlife and it gives me some amazing shots; slightly soft (as pointed out in the video). The image stabilization works amazing. Your lens used for the review definitely needed to be updated, or had some other issues wrong with it. The auto focus does the job, but if not the manual override comes handy. The biggest downfall I'd say is the appersture range. Although, the 90D isn't the best in lowlight either, so combine that with this lenses aperture and images can start to become noticeably grainy in anything but ideal lighting. Regardless, I'd say it's a quality lens, especially for the price. Im very happy I got it!

I received this lens 2 days ago. I have so far experienced no problems with AF between the limits. It is very sharp through all the limits. I use it on my Canon 6D mk2. At high ISO there is some noise, but is as good as if not better than the Canon 400mm L lens. For the price it is far better than anything on the market

Since this update, Sigma has updated the firmware and IS algorithm to make the lens IS far more stable. Def worth getting the usb hub to update your firmware if you own this lens

wouldn't the auto focus work much better in a more recent canon mirrorless like my Canon M50? Can i sugest a retest of this lens with your new Canon M6 MKII??? or better even would be a face off between this and tamrons version in that camera.

This is an amazing lens for an outstanding imgs.love/zSigma?Cすs The lens is quick to autofocus, has great low light capabilities, and does a great job of capturing vibrance. While other reviews have mentioned the lens hood can be loose, I have not had any issues with mine. For the price and a 2.8 aperture, you shouldn't pass up this lens.

I don't know anything about Nikons, but on most Canon full frame cameras, you can simulate a crop sensor by changing the settings. That way, you can extend the reach of your lenses.
A firmware update has fixed the OS 1 stability. It is now very good.
One thing I should also say is we don't know how good the AF speed will be but at the end of the day will you drop an extra $1500+ for slightly better AF? Lets debate it.

I've got the Sigma 150-600 and thinking about replacing it with the 100-400 just to save some space and weight, but without sacrificing too much. Is this extra 100mm worth the added weight 🤷‍♂️ I don't know.. I'm hesitant about making the trade, but I've definitely been thinking about it. I love shooting wildlife, dangerous wildlife at that, so that extra distance could potentially save my life. But then there is cropping, which I can usually keep very minimal at 600mm on a 90D aps-c.

You were talking about sigma 100-400mm and cannon L in the same range....leaving aside nikkor 80-400 which is quite good, but if you compare tamron with cannon L and sigma in same range....tamron is far better than cannon and sigma as well
I'm shopping for a lens in this range and see image quality is quite high and nice with the Canon 100-400 IS USM II BUT, I don't here you mention comparative Image Quality for the Sigma, which I should consider I think... How does the Sigma stack up for image quality?

Mr. Fro, I currently have the sigma 150-600 with mc-11 for my sony a7iii. I'm debating returning it for the 100-400mm. I like having the additional reach, but then the 100-400 seems a bit friendlier in terms of carrying around.l Would you have any technical reasons as opposed to quality of life reasons for me to make the switch?
