does this work on panasonic s5
I just bought Sigma 100-400mm f/5-f/6.3 DG OS HSM C lens. First impressions - this lens has outstanding image quality. Maybe it is dark due to aperture 5 to 6.3 but the price is small for the image quality. I recommend it for anybody who has DSLR camera. I use it with Nikon D7500.
Does this lens be able to on weebill s with any full-frame camera?
Can you mount the lens on Canon eos M100 ?
Thanks for having the only decent review of the lens which isn't either 20 mins of talking head or narrated by a hyperbolic maniac a la Jared Polin or Northrup or fstoppers or or
THIS IS A GREAT REVIEW! THANK YOU
I bought used-like new and imgs.love/zSigma?Cすs I can't imagine new is any better. The quality is amazing and the lens was delivered a day earlier than expected. I am absolutely happy with everything.
Can you please help me? At the moment I have a D7200 with a 70-300mm DX VR lens and i'm wondering if it is worth it going for the Sigma 100-400mm for wildlife photography?
Is there a big diffirence between 300mm and 400mm on a cropped sensor for wildlife?
Or should I wait and get a Sigma 150-600mm?
It's really very good lens
I got this lens: sharpness (+) stab (-)
It cost around the same of new af-p 70-300 4.5-5.6E VR Nikon FX version. They seems to be similar in sharpness, but how about 1/3 stop less light? I'm using D610.
I have old af-s 70-300 Nikon and is too soft wide opn at f5.6
Are the lens is wheather sealed ?
Very good review!
I use this with the 7dii Its perfect cause i do not use a tripod. Its my fav cause its very versitile. You can see it and images in most my recent videos. Thanks for the good info.
I have the 150/600 sport the 120/300 sport the 70/200 and just purchased the 100/400 contemporary recently yes it lacks a tripod collar but I don’t feel the lens is to heavy to be supported by a tripod base attached to the base of the camera body the lens is only 2:4 pounds and is not a heavy lens by any means so until they come up with the biggest complaint of not having the tripod collar deal with it or just carry it
Can you use this with a tripod?? The tamron is better option?
I have use this lens over the summer. Great to use and a stellar performer.
Whilst the image quality, stabilisation, auto-focus, build quality and handling are all very good, the one failing here is the lack of a tripod collar. Although this puts more strain on the lens mount than necessary on a DSLR, with the Canon mount lens attached to a Sony mirrorless body via the Sigma MC-11 adapter, I don't think that configuration is acceptable. At the moment, there don't appear to be any after-market tripod collars for this lens and the only option might be to wedge a Sigma TS-31 collar (designed for their 120-300mm lens) onto the narrow section of body behind the switches.

nice video! i had the Sigma 150-600 C , is this 100-400 as fast (or faster) in adquiring focus and tracking in AF-C ? i know its not a canon 100 400 II but i could sucessfully tracked bif with the 150-600 C at 600mm with a 7dii, thanks!
Sigma should be commended for releasing it at a very reasonable price, many lenses are way overpriced these days in my opinion.
The stabilization on the Sigma was my concern. While I think the Sigma is probably sharper than the Tamron 100-400 in the corners, I'm concerned about the stabilization. However, I don't think it's as bad as you make it seem in the video (based on other video's I've seen of it). HOwever, at the same time, I have heard the Tamron's is a bit better overall
3:52 Are you sure that's high pitched "squeal" is normal? I'd think the lens would be quieter than that when focusing. Tamrons are very quiet, and the only other lens I had that sounded similar to that was my 70-200 Nikon (VR) when the AF motor was going out.
Trying to decide between this lens and the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM II, I'm leaning towards the latter but the lack of weather sealing is a major flaw. Is the sigma worth the extra $250?
FINAAAALLY someone using these using a FILM camera! Legend!
I use this lens on my EOS 90D and it works great! I use it for wildlife and it gives me some amazing shots; slightly soft (as pointed out in the video). The image stabilization works amazing. Your lens used for the review definitely needed to be updated, or had some other issues wrong with it. The auto focus does the job, but if not the manual override comes handy. The biggest downfall I'd say is the appersture range. Although, the 90D isn't the best in lowlight either, so combine that with this lenses aperture and images can start to become noticeably grainy in anything but ideal lighting. Regardless, I'd say it's a quality lens, especially for the price. Im very happy I got it!
I just picked up the 100-400 today for my canon 1DMK4 this video was great when I was doing my research
Hi Christopher. First, big thanks for all your incredible and useful work. And my question: ¿have you any experience about add a teleconverter on this lens? ¿what is your recomendation? ¿the Sigma option? ¿other independent brands? Thanks a lot!
I received this lens 2 days ago. I have so far experienced no problems with AF between the limits. It is very sharp through all the limits. I use it on my Canon 6D mk2. At high ISO there is some noise, but is as good as if not better than the Canon 400mm L lens. For the price it is far better than anything on the market
Will the thing autofocus on a d3300?
Is it possible to review lens for EOS R system?
Hi I have seen the review of both sigma and tamron 100-400mm. But still confused which one should I buy for Nikon full frame camera.
What, besides price and the initial 50mm, is the reason to choose this over the 150-600?
Hi Christopher, I know this is an old review but I'm on a tight budget. Do you think this will be sharper than the canon 55-250 f4.5 to 6.3?
Since this update, Sigma has updated the firmware and IS algorithm to make the lens IS far more stable. Def worth getting the usb hub to update your firmware if you own this lens
Can it be used with sony a6400...??
i wonder if it len use on my sony a7r3 ,will have what kind of effect
which one would you recommend? The Sigma 100-400 or the Tamron 100-400?
What do you think of the sigma 120-400?
wouldn't the auto focus work much better in a more recent canon mirrorless like my Canon M50? Can i sugest a retest of this lens with your new Canon M6 MKII??? or better even would be a face off between this and tamrons version in that camera.
Nice video. Do you have the chance to test this sigma 100 400 with the Sony a7r II using commlite adapter?
I think you had a bad copy of the lens chris mine is silent af is fast and pin sharp i agree the os isn't the same as the canon
CAn you please do a comparison of the Sigma 100-400 and Tamron 100-400? I see a lot of comparisons of one third party lens to an OEM lens, but for example, I can't really use a Canon on my Nikon, so this test doesn't help much, so I have to compare the Tamron to the Sigma. You can use the same body, but just an overall comparison as I heard the Tamron might be a tad "better" between the two, but that the Sigma might be more evenly sharp over the frame (although the Tamron is probably sharper in the center from what I've read). Please do compare these two side by side.
I mean I guess technically I could piece together a comparision using two of your videos (one Canon vs Tamron, and the other Canon vs Sigma) but I think a direct comparison of the Sigma and Tamron may be useful.
Watched this, your "The Final Verdict," and Jared Polen's review - I purchased a used / like-new and I love it. It had firmware 2.05 (they're up to 2.07), so I updated it and noticed the very first 1.01 update addressed AF performance and it was dated 2017.06.06. I am curious if you had that first firmware update installed when you did this review since you noted that the AF was slow on fast moving targets inbound and a little "laggy" on laterally moving targets. If you hadn't - perhaps they addressed and "fixed" that, or if you had - well, "ce la vie." They also made a couple more improvements to AF in 2018, so maybe it is better than what you demonstrated here. Thanks for all you do here - I subscribed based on this well done review.
Bring them both out on a wet snowy day on the mountain and see who goes home first with moisture intrusion
You are my go-to lens reviewer. When it comes to someone who is soft spoken and speaks the truth with real world test, you my friend are the man! Buy a lens for the sole purpose of what "you" are going to use it for and not someone else. That's what I tell people over and over again. Do your research, buy within your budget and then fine tune your lens to your camera body (if your camera allows it). Thanks again for all you do. Be safe and stay healthy. Happy Holidays to you from Louis Ruth Photography.com.
My goodness, thank you so much for SUCH a detailed video!!
Thanks for the detailed review. will the detail still be there if using on a crop sensor, the Canon 80D. I have a zoom to 400 that I am not happy with as there is no detail say in birds' wings at zoom > 300mm. Thank you! Not sure if I would be happier with better lenses or switching to a full frame camera.
Love your reviews very helpful
I'm trying to decide between this and the 150-600mm Sigma. I'm an APS-C user and I'm not concerned with the price difference, so the only reasons to go for the smaller one are for the weight. I'd use a tripod when available but I'd really like to use it a lot handheld too. What do you think?
When you are taking so much time to analyze the lens, at least choose some better subjects.
Spend thousands $$$ for f4 and below for alot of little of night low light shots most don't do...how about a telescope on end of camera. Nope.
My Canon 6D needs a telephoto lens. Will this be o.k.?
Who's going to use these lenses at 1/40 and 1/25 sec? That's not even close to a real world scenario, especially handheld.
This sigma really kicks ass!
Anyone own the Sigma and shot with a Canon 100-400mm? How about the Canon 400mm?
Thank you !
Thank you, I’m just about to order the Sigma, on the back of your review, even though I’ve bid on umpteen Canon 100-400 L fist issue , and lost out !
Others have commented on this already, but surely the Canon must have missed focus here and there; if the difference in sharpness (especially noticeable on the white window frames) is really as huge as in this comparison, the Canon would simply be a lousy lens, which I find very hard to believe, considering the many good reviews it has had.
Thank you so much Dustin for your reviews.
Own this lens. Picked it up in fantastic used condition. Please note, since these reviews came out, Sigma has updated the firmware several times. Including an algorithm update to the stability system. It is night and day better than it was at release. I sold off my Sigma 150-600 since this 100-400 does all I need to do and its significantly smaller and lighter.
Dustin just saved me from burning $ on the Canon 100mm-400mm. Planning to use this for football games and everything is better with the Sigma. Black, skinnier, shorter so more likely to be able to get into the games and not be conspicuous and I don't need the faster speed or shorter DOF of the Canon. The one thing I don't know from this review is how fast the autofocus compares which is key, but it is already decided at 1/3 the cost!
One thing I should also say is we don't know how good the AF speed will be but at the end of the day will you drop an extra $1500+ for slightly better AF? Lets debate it.
Anyone plz give me inputs to buy lens for wildlife and bird photography, I have lot of confusion about sigma 100-400 and 150-600 for canon 90d, which one should I buy, plz suggest me
Hi, Does anyone know if this lens (and the Tamron 100-400) work fine on a Z6 with the FTZ adapter? Any comments about image quality and performance? Thanks
I've got the Sigma 150-600 and thinking about replacing it with the 100-400 just to save some space and weight, but without sacrificing too much. Is this extra 100mm worth the added weight 🤷♂️ I don't know.. I'm hesitant about making the trade, but I've definitely been thinking about it. I love shooting wildlife, dangerous wildlife at that, so that extra distance could potentially save my life. But then there is cropping, which I can usually keep very minimal at 600mm on a 90D aps-c.
Can this lens be used on the Canon M100 camera.
I just bought the Nikon 70-300 4.5-5.6 AF-P VR lens for $550 on sale. I may return it to Best Buy because it's only been a few days. I've been thinking of exchanging it for this lens for the extra reach. Anything to consider when choosing between these two?
If you have a option to choose "sigma 100-400mm" and "Tamron 100-400mm"
Which one will you choose ...????
You were talking about sigma 100-400mm and cannon L in the same range....leaving aside nikkor 80-400 which is quite good, but if you compare tamron with cannon L and sigma in same range....tamron is far better than cannon and sigma as well
I'm shopping for a lens in this range and see image quality is quite high and nice with the Canon 100-400 IS USM II BUT, I don't here you mention comparative Image Quality for the Sigma, which I should consider I think... How does the Sigma stack up for image quality?
excellent summary, nice and dense, great comps.
I have heard you compliment the sigma lens and agree that its a great value. So... Now would like some help in the decision between the sigma 400 or the 600 This is where I find myself still uncertain. Thanks for your great reviews. loved the review on the sigma 600
As per the Sigma website, this lens will work flawlessly with the MC-11 adapter on a Sony e-mount camera.
STOP SHOUTING WE ARE NOT DEAF MATEY.
I just bought this lens to replace the Nikon 55-300mm 4.5-5.6, I'm really happy with it; specially with the autofocus... is way faster than the Nikon.
Mr. Fro, I currently have the sigma 150-600 with mc-11 for my sony a7iii. I'm debating returning it for the 100-400mm.
I like having the additional reach, but then the 100-400 seems a bit friendlier in terms of carrying around.l
Would you have any technical reasons as opposed to quality of life reasons for me to make the switch?
Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
WAOOOOOO!!!!!!! I found the video I wanted to see from you about the Sigma - Contemporary 100-400mm, thanks
I was thinking about getting a Canon 100-400 mm but I want the sigma 100-400mm lens now.
Which better for sport photography ?
Sigma 100-400 or tamron 100-400
Very helpful video. I was looking at sigma 600mm but now the 400mm I think. I will be using with Nikon D5300, will that work? Thank you :)
Thanks good info
