Ever consider not singing?? Lol sorry, im a realist..
Sooo it’s worth the money? I am between this and the AKG p120. *MONEY IS NO OBJECT*
Is this good for recording? Please tell me
I go by I have a mic sounds when someone is singing on it I don’t care about the numbers I don’t even understand all that technical stuff but I know a good sound when I hear it
Cost efficient
I use this Mic for Live streaming. But if I didn't have my 16 channel Digital mixer interface going into my DAW then outputting the DAW sound into my Focus right Scarlett to my stream software, I would not use this mic. Going directly into the focus right Scarlett to get enough gain you basically have to crank the gain way up. I Also have the Slate Digital Everything Bundle to really improve the sound of the microphone. I like it a lot because unlike the Rhode NT-1 which is a Loud mic to begin with. The Beta 87a is quieter and does a fantastic job of not picking up background noise.
Is this mic good for public speaking? eg like would it pick up talking from 1m ??
I really enjoyed singing from Ez Voice because I love singing.
I've gotten some very good results using this on recording acoustic guitar with this.
Nice succinct review. I own the mic. Your commentary is spot on.
Hows this compare to the telefunken M80 for stage use with a loud band?
wow the noise handling is incredibly good.
Thanks for yet another great mic review 👍. I have been using this mic for nearly 20 years. I actually have the Neumann KMS 105 but I always use the Beta 87 A (I have the Beta 87 B also- very little difference in sound). The Neumann KMS 105 is a little “too good” for some of the gigs I have played. I mean, I don’t like to set up a $700 mic for an outdoor gig- it just feels crazy to do that. Also, if you are playing a loud gig- the 87 A is your friend. It rejects crowd noise. The Neumann is going to pick more of that up. So if you are playing a quiet, live performance, like maybe in a Nashville listening room like the Bluebird... Then grab the Neumann for sure. It will grab the detail. One last note. One night I went to a Dan Fogelberg concert. I was sitting near the sound man, who incidentally had also run sound for many other great artists. He was very willing to chat with me that night. I asked what mic Fogelberg was using and he handed the Beta 87 A. Then he said to me, “Do you want to see what I wish he was using?” I said sure! He handed me the Neumann KMS 105. That sold me on both of those mics. But because of the types of gigs I have played, 99 times out of 100 I will use the 87 A. My daughter uses the 87 B 😆. She feels the same way I do... and we have gigged extensively!!! 🎸🎶🎸. Hope this comment was helpful! Thanks for your great mic reviews! Love them! 🎤
Thank you for doing these videos! Would a reafir subtract vst plugin be acceptable to reduce the self-noise of the SM87A or is the self-noise simply unremovable?
I bought a 87a shure beta condenser in the United States at Guitar Center, but the microphone worked in the store, but when I arrived in BRAZIL it didn't work at all. I plugged in the Phanton power 48 V and it didn't work. what will happen ?? help me !

You forgot to tell us what the mic tastes like!? Nice review and you're spot on with your final analysis. For male singing needing bass defiintely have to EQ it. For female singing this mic is perfect I think! Same would apply to speech. For instruments, horses for courses.
Excellent, Thank You
Hi! You mentioned that it is not suitable for studio use. May I know which mic you would recommend then for both studio and live? Honestly, I just want a mic to be used for home recording which isnt that sensitive to background sounds.
Yea .... I went with the 58 a beta for all of those reasons. I highly recommend the 58 a by Shure. 100 bucks cheaper ,and a legend on stage as well as in the studio. Rock on.
So simply explained it's FANTASTIC! no technical chat that most do not really understand just basic, plain and crystal clear explanation of the differences, pro's & con's all in a short and to the point presentation
I think we need to know a little more than that about the difference. Like show us a demonstration using both mics
Good review !! Thank you!! VG :-)
What does it sound like?
What if I don't supply phantom power? Will it still work?
when the singer singing different part to microfon comparison we cant recognize anything.
The singing😆😆😆
Nice and fun review !
Beta87A ... the more detailed and presenenced vocal microphone ... imho. I've been using one for 6 years now in my 60's..70's band. Sometimes i play my harmonicas over this mic, and that sounds amazingly good. I'am very satisfied with the overal sound of the Beta87A... and i'am a malesinger. 🎶🎙😎👍
Great time, great value
its christmas time again and i'm once again microphone shopping. Not surprised i'm back here again haha
I ned a mic for flute , hamonica and singing. NOTHING fancy . I'm in between Shure beta a 58 and Sennheiser e945. Had a Shure sm 58 before ( got stolen) , it worked fine but would like to try something a little better .Thanks in advance for any answer.
Le 1er micro 🎤 en partant de la gauche, je l'ai eu à mon anniversaire 🎉
vibe on the beta 58A (through mackie studio monitors *not saying much) over the SM58. A pop filter might have helped (If your not using live) so I dig not using. Thankyou for the comparison video. The 87 and the added pain of phantom isn't worth it in my price point...Also I drop the mic (and the ball) on a regular basis.
Should have recorded with 3 mics at the same time. Then play back each after each other. We don't have three preamps sitting around but any pro has.
I swear by Shure Beta 58A and have encouraged so many young singers to buy one that they owe me an endorsement! Seriously for reals. LOL
the 87 sounded the best and clearest
You two really click on the unisons--well done! The 58A is his mic--the 87A is hers. I have both Betas and which I use depends on the density of stuff on stage; just me and a piano, 87A. Choir in back or full ensemble od any sort, 58A.
The problem I have here is that when you switch From the SM58 to the Beta 58A, there is a jump in volume and maybe distortion. I am not able to compare. Other than that, it was a really useful review. Thank you
No different.
Top mano eu achei massa o beta 58a
Sm 58 на двух тестах был ровнее и приятнее по звуку.
Loved the beta 58. She went slightly flat, this is easily fixed with proper vocal support.
I have used all three, and the 78 beats them all. Hard to hear in a video, but when you do over a dozen shows with each of these, the quality differences are clear. The 78 produces more range, which can be easily supplemented by a bit of bass on your average soundboard or vocal pedal. I would rather supplement broader frequencies than not be able to add anything to narrower frequencies. The 78 is much more versatile than the 58s.
Lovely.
my microphone, bought over 10 years ago, cost 30 euros, and the problems weren't really hers, but if you sing at home in an environment with background noises, it is evident that they are captured, but if you stay close to the microphone while singing, you can don't hear them. The two problems I had were: headphone noise caused by plastic arc that creaked only when moving your mouth ... and computer fans. Replaced the headphones and managed the computer fans through the bios, I solved the problems. Reviews are useful if you want to use the microphone on stage. A cheap microphone is fine at home. For this my karaoke the microphone used is Takstar DM-2200 https://youtu.be/SKMztNcUOcQ
I prefer this mic over my Rhode NT1A for Live Streaming. I like the sound of the Rhode but it picks up a ton of background noise from the room. The Beta 87a sounds better in my opinion and also is great for not picking background noise just like you said. I will say though if I was only plugging directly into my focus right 1i2 I would probably prefer the Rhode. I use a Phonic Summit 16 channel digital console interface into my Cubase DAW. Then run the monitor speaker out cables into the focus right scarlet which goes to my streaming software so with the extra Mic Pre in the signal chain allows me to get enough power to crank the Beta 87a. I also use the slate digital everything bundle plug-in with Izotope as well to get the mic to sound as professional as possible. I just don't want to shell out 400 for the SM7B. The 87a works great for what I'm using it for. Great Vocal mic as well.
It does the job
What is your opinion on the Shure KSM8? I'm looking for a vocal mic for recording as well as live performances. Does the quality justify the extra expense in your opinion, or would you go with the mic in this video?
How do you hook it up to my computer? I’m a beginner
I've used this to record pod before...but thats not what i got it for. I bought one about 15 years ago when i was the front man in a band that played too loud and it really helped me cut through the mix. it did it's job, then it sat in a drawer for a decade. then i remembered i still owned it right when another guy joined my pod cast cast. he talked the least and had terrible vocal craft, he was never going to sound good so it really didn't matter, and unlike most people round thees parts. I like any excuse not to get another mic, rather than any excuse to get one.
Oh boy.. Hope I didn't speak too quick. You say; "what's up".. No-no.. You are unique and dynamic. Stay "U". 😊btw.. I'm always giving out unsolicited advice. That's just me. "keep it real". ✌ You'll go far kid.
INSTANT SUB WHERE THE FUCHE HAS THIS CHANNEL BEEN ALL THIS TIME !!!!!!!!!!!!
Have you or could you test the AKG C5
Your reviews are so good! A few weeks ago I ended up buying a mic from seeing it in your videos. You keep it straight to the point but also don't miss anything — keep doin what you're doin
Yeah. I have a large-diaphragm condenser and I rarely get to use it because I don't have a treated space (except my small closet). I would definitely love to try a handheld one, even if it's a cheaper one.
Horridoh, which headphones are u using or recommending for monitoring your recording? Kind regards & keep up the good videos
Bro are you podcasting? I'd love to have you on my show as a guest.
I lost power when I was writing a much longer comment so... I'm the guy who should really be using a dynamic but is using a LCC because I like the sound, so I might be the exact use case for a mic like this. I didn't think this was that bad for spoken word. Smooth throughout and unmuffled, the exact reason I like the condenser sound better. Maybe expensive for the quality of sound you get, but certainly usable. I'll trust you when you say use the SM 86 instead. I'm more in the Behringer market segment anyway. I laughed when I heard the "get mic'd" line. Best mic review intro.
Where the letter grade at? ;(
Your voice sounds good. A little sibilant on words ending with an "s", but not sibilant on words beginning with an "s". Your voice also seemed darker or smoother.
