Straightforward and simple :) 2 questions, at 1:49, does the dropout nut need to be as high up as possible? and when putting the derailleur cable back through the anchor bolt (3:33) the cable has to be as taut as possible right, and what gear should the bike be in whilst replacing stuff? Attention Bike Brains! I have a question. My Shimano Derailleur long Cage from my pristine 1988 Schwinn Sierra busted off and is totally ruined. Out of the total 15 speeds available on this bike I only ever use the first 5 speeds running off the smallest front sprocket no matter where ever I go (im a slow cruiser) . Now the question. Since I never use the other two larger front sprockets I am wondering if I can get away temporarily with using a short cage Shimano derailleur with the same model number (I found cheap on ebay) as long as I never attempt to shift to the larger front sprocket gears? I hope I explained my question correctly. Thanks.
