The JK J 044 was truly awful. It was riddled with LF noise that wasn't present in any of the others. What this test proved is that the Sennheiser is absolutely worth the cost of entry.
Brilliant. Very helpful and informative.
Thank you very much for your time and effort.
Thanks for the review!
Thank you for this video. You just saved me $200. since i needed two mics :) AWESOME!
I'm late to this party but I'm here! The style in which you compared the different mics is still very relevant & informative. Can you do a new video? I'm currently in the market for a set of lapel mics & would like to get the most bang for my buck! Thanks for a great video!
Definitely the Sennheiser was the best for your middy, twangy and metallic voice. Only the Sennheiser seems to catch some lower frequencies out of your voice.
JK Mic-J 044: This item does not ship to Netherlands -- DAMNIT! All the good stuff doesn't shit to Europe. Thanks for the great review though, much appreciated
Finally someone who tests these mics outside - where most people will use them
Very good comparison, thanks. I agree with you, the Senny is lacking in highs; not really worth the price compared to some of the others. Look at your video of the Neweer: when you jiggle the mic wire, you can see the wire moving INSIDE the housing! That wire is not secured in any way, except being soldered to the capsule. That's why it's so susceptible to handling noise. Also, I suspect, the first time you accidentally tug on the wire, you're going to break one of those connections and have a dead mic. A noisy $3.00 gamble.
Me2 is stereo or mono ? Lavalier microphones is only mono or stereo?
Incredibly informative, thanks a lot!
Thank you for this video! God bless you, brother! Jesus loves you, man. So much!
Thanks for the vid. I'm looking for something with good sound quality with a budget friendly price to do Bible teachings. Impressive how the $30 mic stood up the Sennheiser!
God Bless :)

I agree that the Zoom H1 sounds better than a lav mic.
Are these mics working if I plug in on the pc? I want to buy one for gaming. Are they working? (sorry for my bad English)
Love the test! Sorry i'm coming into this about 5 years too late... I was wondering how much audio editing you did in post?
I bought the mic-j based on this video. It does not perform well with my Sennheiser AVX system. I get a constant buzzing noise so I returned it.
If you are only 2 -3 seconds into a video take, and your voice cracks, just start again bro. lol. Good video though.
I think a more accurate way to describe or title your video should be “ which lav mic sounds best when hard wired to a Zoom H1”
I own 2 Sennheiser G3’s and I agree with your comment “entry level pro lav mic” but when I record an interview or dialogue using the ME2 mounted on Sennheiser Tx’r and the Rx’r connected to my Sound Devices Preamp, the sound I record sounds crisp and clear.
Please understand that not all preamps are created equal. The Zoom H1 that is priced around $100 has a very inexpensive preamp and is engineered and designed specifically for the stereo microphone that is mounted on the H1.
That being said the same goes for the Sennheiser ME2. It’s designed specifically to be mounted on a wireless transmitter with an adjustable preamp called “sensitivity “ so the user can adjust the level to match the level of the person speaking. Then its paired to a wireless receiver that also has an output adjustment to correctly set the level to the recorder. Gain structure is a very import when recording sound .The Zoom H1 is a very good recorder for the price but should not be paired with with a microphone (ME2) that was never intended to be used with anything else but a Sennheiser G3 wireless transmitter.
The Sennheiser ME2 should not be considered as a hardwired lav mic and should not be connected directly to a recorder because as your video proves the results are poor make it sound dull and lifeless.
Can you connect the ME2 directly to the PC without the transmitter?
The whole of this video sounded quiet and muffled.
Great video, thank you!!
Very good Videos. This helped me alot to choose. Thank you!
i personally liked the me2
How does the Preamp on the video camera affect the hiss or sound quality ?
Any thoughts on this lav from SLINT? https://amzn.to/31VuUBk
I bought the ME4 and never used it because it sounds worse than the ME2.
I'm trying to find a mic that will allow me to get the clearest audio while recording from inside a race car with a helmet on. We can put the mic inside the helmet if it's small enough. What would you suggest looking at? Is there a good lav mic that would work or how about headphone mics? Is there a bone conducting mic or something like that? Thanks in advance for any help. Good video🤙
Quite impressed with the ME2, probably gonna pick one up for my next shoot.
Usually use a shotgun mic but doing a small budget shoot where I’m doing it all solo, so no budget for a shotgun mic operator.
Probably just going to run the lav from a 3.5mm extension cable as I haven’t got a wireless pack and feel like a cable will probably be a bit easier and more reliable as I don’t have to worry about batteries on a two day shoot.
Wow, me4 sounded terrible…I was really hoping that one would sound the best. Was the problem the placement, because it's cardioid, or does it just sound bad?
haveu ever tried me 102 ? nobody know it

hola, y cual es el microfono que usaste para hacer el video?....porque ese audio supera al de las tres capsulas que probaste

Carl, you make excellent videos, I always find myself searching youtube for videos comparing products before I purchase. My searches bring me to many reviews, but I always find myself coming back to watch yours multiple times. Your reviews are very clear, concise, detailed without a ton of non-relevant information, and Most of all I do not feel like you are pushing a certain product and you are giving a true user review. I just ordered the Sennheiser avx mke2 after watching this review as well as your avx review. I was torn on the me2 vs mke2, but I know I will kick myself if I do not buy the mke2. It is more expensive, but it's cheaper in the kit, vs buying after the fact. Keep up the great work. Michael Frisch
Hello friend, I need some help if it is possible
I am a total beginner in audio domaine,
I have a Sennheiser Sennheiser MKE 40-EW and a Sennheiser MZA 900p
I don't know how to use them at all, I wanted to make them function with my phone by a trrs trs adapter from rode but it seems that it does not work, I don't know if the lavalier can work with a zoom h1 if I buy one or it needs something else to work ?
thank you by advance for your help :)
Hi , can I recording in “ME 2” with my iPhone?
I was looking for something else, but kept listening because of that amazing Scottish accent.
Why does it sound horrible
I felt like it should have been closer to your mouth, idk it had a bit of an echo
To get this microphone to work with your iPhone follow these steps:
I literally just tested this out today with my iPhone 11 Pro Max using Rode’s Wireless Go Microphone System.. You will need the Rode SC7 cable to connect the system to the iPhone, then you can plug the Sennheiser ME 2-II into Rode’s Wireless Go Microphone System; works and sounds fantastic!! :)
Thanks Kevin. Great video. Were you able to figure out how to connect ME-2 directly to the Iphone?
Me2 is stereo or mono?
its condenser or electret?
Thanks for the vid. I'm looking for a good wireless lav mic to do Bible teaching videos. Reviews like this helps in making a choice.
God Bless :)

Hi. Would this fit into a Sony A6500 mic input? Or does the locking ring prevent this? Can the ring be removed? Many thanks.
HOW to connect Lumix G80 + Lav Mic Sennheiser ME 2-II? This locking metal thing prevents me to connect it all the way directly to my camera and moc only records left channel. How did you do this?
Well this kinda explains why it sounded really good then (to me).
That mic has a Operating voltage (stand alone) : 7.5 V. Even cheap microphones like the $17 Boya by-m1 needs an LR44 battery. So I'm guessing you need to add some juice to that mic.
What I've done is use my Zoom H5 recorder. This way you can use whatever microphone you want to and record into the smartphone using the line out.
It also looks like there's two version of this phone there's an older version and a newer version. The newer version looks like it's the Sennheiser ME 2-II. Do you have the original version or the newer version?
It also says it has a 3.5mm threaded EW connector. I don't know what a e w connector is. Maybe that's different from a normal 3. 5 mm connector.
MKE2 is significantly quieter
very bad review, very basic mistakes.Impossible to compare both microphones with this review.
Bro your comparison was awesome. I can actually hear the difference in your video. Thanks for doing this!!!!!!!!!!
audio guy here, your volume is lower with the mke2, this also makes the noise lower. compare apples to apples next time.
I'm trying to adjust the levels on my ME2 to not hear breathing noises. Do you think the MKE2 is better for cutting that noise out? Thanks for the review.
Sorry for all the thumbs down man! Your video helped me alot! Thanks!
Great comparison - thank you so much!
Bro, thanks for the recommendation. I feel like every other YouTuber is AFRAID to make a recommendation and opt for pleasing everybody with the "Well, that's up to you." THANK YOU
Damn dude how much post processing did you do on that ME2.
dude, you didn't compensate the gain for the difference in sensitivity, making the whole thing useless.
Just got the mke2, And must be doing something wrong. I already have the me2, came with my g3. Anytime I touch the wire on the mke2, there is a rubbing noise that gets picked up by the mike. What am I doing wrong? Lots of movement noise. If I sit still, or don’t move, all is good, but I never sit still
where do u connect the other side of the mic to ?
I think that the MKE2 has to point up to your mouth since is directional... here it's pointing down so the omnidirectional one obviously will sound louder
Ermm.. the ME2 level is set consistently louder on your voice, so impossible to say if background noise is just louder for the reason that the level is higher.
+Thomas Villegas I just bought this microphone after wanting it for years. I was wondering what transmitters and cables I need to buy to make it work properly?
i think that me2 might be good for studio environments with live crowd.
I found there was the difference of volume level between ME2 and MKE2
If you did blind test, I couldn't distinguish ME2 to MKE2
I think both have good performance to normal user like me not professional
MKE2 is so expansive. so ME2 is better
thanks for making your video
Thank you very much
Very helpful review
