The Seagate here is an SMR (Shingled Magnetic Recording) drive while the WD is a CMR,/PMR (Conventional or Perpendicular Magnetic Recording) drive. I'm surprised that the Seagate here turned in those numbers because SMR drives are notorious for being very slow when writing due to the nature of shingling magnetic tracks, but I guess that applies to rewriting data. The first write could be fast enough. Are these drives still with you and are you still using them? Some say SMR drives perform well initially but as data accumulates and gets fragmented it becomes very slow.

Hi. Wich one do you think it's better? BarraCuda 2TB 7200rpm 256mb Cache, model ST2000DM008 or WD Blue 2TB 5400rpm 256mb Cache, model WD20EZAZ The WD has 1 year longer warranty. I had one 500gb BarraCuda that i bought in 2016 that died recently and didn't even last 5 years, i'm more inclinated to buy the WD one, what do you think?

Hi Mr. Wong, I have had several external HD made by Seagate 320 GB(2006), 500 GB(2011) and 1 TB(2016). All of them still work fine. I have tons of movie and watch them all the time. I say Seagate makes quality products, thanks for your video.
Great review, i was looking at getting the 2tb/4tb seagate barracuda from Canada computers. However when i check the specs for it, it claims that the rpm is 7200. Has it been changed? Or is it actually 5400 and they made a mistake

Hey, nice video but I would recommend a WD Blue, it has a much much better reliability. If you can't afford a WD, go for Toshiba, Hitachi or Fujitsu. Seagate's reliability has only increased a little to none (I bought two Seagate hard drives and both of them dropped to 85% (health, but performance still 100%) in a week, and needs to be defragmented every single day. My Toshiba from 2006 is still at 100% meanwhile my WD Scorpio Blue 2009 is at 99% (health, both performance is still at 100%).
My speed is showing just 130MBps for Seagate 2TB. But for my old WD blue 200MBps.
