Having to manually focus doesn’t bother me but you need to have good vision imgs.love/RokinonLens or wear your glasses/contacts. I use this for weather, architecture, landscapes, family portraits, and sometimes even birth photography. I need more equipment for astrophotography but that is on my list.
Make it f/5.6 and distance at infinity ... you will get best fixed sharp photos

Hello! Very good video I have an 8mm rokinon. Supposedly it has an autofocus chip ... do you have to configure something in the camera? I have a nikon D7100 with focus motor, but I can not make it work. Thanks for any comment from now.

Should have used f/8 for the sharpness test. At f/22 diffraction may be present. f/8 is the sweet spot for sharpness.

I just recently bought Rokinon 14 mm T3.1 lens. Is vignetting a normal thing in that lens or I have got a broken lens? It looks really unprofessional with vignetting. I am using this lens with Sony A7s. Please help me.

Why did you compare T3.8 to T22 for sharpness??? Those are the two softest apertures. T3.8 and T22 should both be contrasted with the lenses sharpest aperture, which is nearly always anywhere between f11-f16 (or whatever those tstops are). For video I'm more than sure this lens is bogus sharp. None of this 5/10 for sharpness stuff. This lens shows beautifully on the Gh4.
what canon have you used in this video ? 
i have the newer one with removable hood . with click-e aperture! i very much like it on my A99 full and crop mode .  just my 2 cents . i want to take out the click-e  . i do find my fingers on the lens now and then . it really  easy to putt them on it with the hood off

I wish you had mentioned what were the best settings for taking pictures with this lens. Some say set the aperture to F5 to F11 and set the focus ring to infinity and ISO to Auto. Did you find that the focus on this lens is very minimal or non-existent? Thanks for your response.

I tend to get overexposed pictures in situation where its really well light up. Usually need to tune down via EV compensation drastically. Do you encounter that and what's your workaround solution? No doubt it shine superbly in low light environment, simply awesome. Thank you.
If shooting Sony, Clear View Zoom bypasses the need for the full frame lens.

Thanks. This was very helpful. I want a wide DOF with this lens. I tested it at F/11 at Infinity and everything was out of focus. I may have gone beyond infinity with my focus ring. The L marking on the focus ring at Infinity confused me. I'm going to try it again at 3 feet and report back to you.

Watched your video and very close to getting this lens.. would u say this is a good choice for the canon 200D if I wanted to use it for filming and shooting skating. I’m guessing I can get nice and close. Good thing is I’m off to Disney land pairs in a week and would be nice to get a fish eye lens for both holiday shoots and filming skating in the future, there are so many lens types and prices and most reviews always seem to stick to saying just positive views about the lens, problem being they were probably sent the lens for free to give a positive review, but good to get a review on someone who has picked it and paid for it and is still happy with it? I’ve looked at so many budget lenses and I’m hoping iv come to the end of my search,
How does it work for a bit of video footage? I am looking to get something for a different view for both video and photo and want to invest in some sort of fish eye for a bit of playfulness in both aspects.

I tried the Rokinon version and the image quality was soft and not sharp. The focus didn't seem to work no matter how close I was or far away from the subject. When I took the images into Lightroom, and zoomed into the images, they looked grainy. I guess you get what you pay for. Played with the ISO and aperture settings and didn't seem to help. Tried it in Aperture Priority and Manual and that didn't help on a Canon 90D. The images you took with the Samyang seem sharp but I guess it's hit or miss with the manufacturer of these lens.
in lightroom you can fix the distortion and you have an ultra wide picture without the fish eye effect its ideal if you cant afford the tokina 11 16 or other ultra wide angle lenses.also you can do some very creative photography with it i remember i took some seminars in photography and the teacher he used to give us these assigmnets and we had one week to bring him the kind of images he wanted to.at one time he gave us an assigment to do some architecture photography.i used my fish eye lens to do some shots, and in the end he rejected my fish eye lens photos and he said why i am using this lens? fish eye is a toy everyone sells it the guy was one of those arrogant snobs in photography unfo my fish eye broke few months later but i am waiting till the easter comes to get another one and rock the boat with this lens lol

Hi Christopher, great video. Would you say this lens is better than the Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC HSM? Or not quite as good. I can't decide between the two, I'll be using them on a Canon EOS 760D. If you know of any other super wide lenses that are better than both please let me know
Hello Chris I bought The Samyang 8mm T3.8 UMC Fish Eye CS II (for Cinema). I bought it for still photography not realising I bought the cinema version. The only difference I can see is there are no click stops on the aperture ring. Could you see any problems using this lens for stills? As always a great review.

Fantastic review as usual - I am stuck between choosing a Samyang 8mm or the Sigma 10mm for a Canon APS-C camera. Predominantly I would like to use it for some Astrophotography (low light) architecture and some landscape - question is is it good enough for low light photography compared to say a Sigma and any difference would it be worth the extra costs - I do have a Tokina 11-20 f2.8 already - any help would be appreciated Thanks Ahmet again love your reviews
I had also bought one Samyang 8 mm f2.8 M for mirroless but it was simply not working on Canon M50. What could be the reason ? I had to return it.

Hey! Awesome Review! I switched from my 1300D to a Canon 6D MKII, I noticed as well the spherical image on my FF. If I use the Hood, can I still get a rectangular image as before? or should I sell it and buy more mm for the new ff sensor?
