Don't they have an auto focus version of this lens now?
I noticed the lens did not have an 'A' setting on the aperture ring, which on most lens would allow you to focus wide open then stop down to the aperture setting when the shutter is pressed. Can you comment on that ?

The Rokinon 85 1.4 is made in Corea distributed in the USA I'm Aussie so naturally I've come to Portugal to review it. Love the look of these images. Crazy how at such a low cost, the micro contrast still far exceeds sigmas 35. Gives a very story book feel.
This was interesting for me as I'm a hobby photographer and married. Try telling the wife that you just spent $1300 on a lens! I'm considering the lenses below for Astrophotography. Any suggestions on which one I should buy first? I prefer them with a Z mount. 24mm/1.4: Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC. 16mm/2.0: Rokinon 16mm f/2.0 ED AS UMC. 10mm/2.8: Rokinon 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS.
It being almost impossible to focus, does that apply if you have manual focus assist like the Sony a7 mkII? Not used the feature yet

I have a Nikon D500 and this lens does fit it making it a 123mm, which is fine for me, but my question is "I've read or watched somewhere (I don't remember where) that an F1.4 on a crop sensor becomes an F1.8 aperture?" Is this true?

I generally use my Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 lens + MC-11 adapter in manual mode simply because I think that with focus peaking, it is actually easier to manually focus this lens than try to use the AF in portraiture to get the eyes in focus. I'd only use this lens for portraiture and I wonder about the difference in bokeh between this lens and the Canon f/1.8?

I’m new to event and portrait photography, can anyone help or advise me here. I use a Sony A7 camera, I’m looking at this lens as my 85mm choice, I’ve no experience yet with MF lenses, I look to learn but with shooting a lot of events, I need/prefer lenses with AF. What would you recommend I look to purchasing? Will this lens be easy for me to use MF whilst shooting (I fear I’m making using a MF lens in my head harder than it actually is) ?
It would be interesting to compare this side by side with the 1.8 version.
Am I misremembering or did the old version of this lens (the one without the red ring) have a chip and contacts to let it communicate its name and aperture to the camera? Or was that only on the Nikon version? I owned it years ago and I am sure it had a chip.

Hi Christopher - Does the aperture stay open when composing - and then close to the set aperture when the shutter is released? I would use this on a Fuji EX-3. Great review (as usual).

Sir, 85mm lenses are not meant for taking pictures of shopping carts. They are mostly used for portraits. So, those few shopping cart photographers already know which lens to choose. Portrait photographers, on the other hand, need to wait for some other comparison

Samyang is good lens but canon has better quality on photos
bought it, and have good build quality⚙️>imgs.love/SY_lens?Vわg I use pentax k70, however, it is more difficult than I thought to manual focus it. I have to return it. I am not sure whether I need to adjust my camera setting or what to make it work. I used focus peaking , when i shot the picture, it is out of focus. I did get a Irix Firefly 15mm, with a build in chip, it is much easy to focus. I have pentax k 200mm, no problem with focus.
Almost sold my Canon and bought the Samyang but I saw issues with focusing and this video. So I'm keeping my Canon 85 mm. If it's not broke don't fix it and I get phenomenal images with the Canon.

What if samyang AF 85MM F1.4 vs canon 85mm 1.8?
I my opinion, we shouldn't compare a AF lens with a manual lens, these are 2 totally different stories. So that the "sharpness samples" of the Samyang on this video could be compromissed due a less accurate manual focussing (on the side of the photographer) The Samyang 85mm 1.4 (which I own) makes more sense on a camera with focus Peaking. It's hard to use the Samy 85mm 1.4 manually on the DSLR Canons, specially wide open. So that...the better comparison would be the Canon 85mm 1.8 against the new Samyang AF 85mm 1.4... therefore --> AF vs AF
I see the Samyang lens all the time on Ebay but I pass on the temptation and settle for the Sigma Art's!
