Woah wtf, am I able to convert my kit into this thing.
Put good heads on it makes a difference
There's an actual tool for making precise port holes in bass drums...if kids want to keep playing the drums...do not use razor blades...you create the port hole on the skin before you put it on the bass drum...that way you can put the "pillow" or bass drum dampener in without stuffing it through the hole...and whoever said "a good drummer can make a bad kit sound good"...no you can't...untrained ears will think that...as for sticking ear plugs in...only if you are mic'd up playing live with guitars blasting...buy drum mutes...otherwise you won't be able to hear yourself...it's alright knowing how to hit them but you have to know how to assemble everything correctly...way to teach the kids to run before they can walk

For stock heads those actually sound pretty decent. Cymbals are pretty bad but at least you get the hardware. Buy this drum set, pillow up the Bass, change the heads (Or at least get a nice one for the snare) get new cymbal or two and you've got a pretty nice drum kit
I don't like the leaving the pillow positioning in the bass drum at "it's a matter of preference", because at this price point, kids are not gonna know how to use the pillow properly. Either let the bellow gently rest on on of the heads, or have it gently rest on both heads. Understand where the sound you don't like is coming from and then experiment where you'd like the muffling to start from.
I remember when my cymbals and heads looked like that.
As a rank beginner I really appreciate going through the set p procedure

Tbh this doesnt sound loads different to the high end Ludwig sets. With decent cymbals and new skins this would sound great. Save you a lot of money as well.

This is the FIRST time I have ever commented on youtube (okay, the first time I was asking a question to someone so it doesn't count). I just can't help myself. You are a FANTASTIC drummer and musician. It's really cool to see someone get out of the Armed Forces music program and do great things with music. I was in the Marine band (went to SOM in 2004 is Habib still there?) and rarely saw anyone do anything with music once they're out myself included. You're an inspiration.

I dont know if that was your intention but the part that holds your pedal has to be mounted the other way round so that its right under your kick and then your pedal is able to hit the centre of the head. I own the blue sparkle one and put an emad on the kick an evans EC on the toms. It sounds thunderous at gigs and all sound guys are completely stunned when they hear it! Congrats!!

I dig the snareweight (M1b / M80) on the rack tom. Thought your floor tom had an Evans EMAD on it at first, but it's a Big Fat Snare Drum "Steve's donut" by the looks of it? This set has a lot of ring to it out of the box and I dig the tone you're getting out of it with your mods.(Writing this in case anyone else was trying to figure out what was resting on the skins)Great playing, liked & sub'd, cheers from Monterey, CA!
