The ups and downs of 18650. The higher the amperage the fewer charge cycles it has. ie a 5A battery will have fewer cycles than a 2A battery. JehuGarcia has a great tutorial on 18650's. I'll be building my own pack soon of 20-2A batteries.
Most of those cheap packs haven't had the batteries properly bottom balanced. I'd do that, then rebuild the pack. 18650's are really good batteries.

Ups... I bought that one ..... Seriously, no, I didn't. I do have in fact a very similar case for 3 cells that I used to repourpose the cells of my old Anker Astro 3 9000mah that had the circuit board fried. I always assumed it took too long to charge and had lost capacity due to the cells being old but maybe it is that charging circuit board that is absolute garbage. The case itself is wonderfully made and the way it latches is very practical

I picked up one of these cases back in 2017. It was identical to the one you took apart, but instead of being set up for solder tab pack of cells; it had spring terminals. I think it was $1USD on eBay. It had all the same capacity markings already printed on it even though it came with no cells. I used it for about a year, then gave it to my brother. It too was only good for about 500 mAh load. He decided to change the cells in it which I told him not to do. I guess he must have installed 3 good ones, and one that was internally shorted, because it went up in flames in a few second after he did that.
