I have been using a small 1970s generator during power outages to run the freezer but mew freezers are being equipped with digital devices that can be sensitive to low hurts or low voltage. Don't want to invest in newer inverter generators looking for a low hurts protection can hook inline from generator. Not much info theres units for RV power supplies but they are not meant for generators any suggestions or places I can look would be appreciated👍
i have a 30 amp isolated variac with didgital voltage and power meter with the fuse replaced to 15 amps, just over what my entire pc setup draws at max power, sending exactly 115 volts to a uninterupted power supply. i own a 5,000 usd custom built pc and can not afford to replace a 500 $ mother board or any other componant for that matter. my pc gets exactly 115 volts with no v drop and and if there is a lightning stike i have an isolated system as there is an isolation transformer in the variac plus the ups. working on a power factor correction capacitor bank also

Lighting will kill anything regardless of what piece of mind you have hooked to a socket. If you like it unplug it during storms and when gone for more than a day.
Isobar is probably the best you can buy and I have seen one of those after a near lightning strike that caught on fire and had a hole melted in the side. I can only imagine the damage that would have been done if the device wasnt in circuit. At best these will offer a layer of protection. One thing to alway think about is that lightning travels a mile through the air. How big is your surge protector? 12 inches, maybe less. Don’t trust one of these to completely protect you. The best thing to do is unplug the device, and that includes dsl and your cable when there is a bad storm. I’ve opened up lots of computers over the years that were charred black on the inside from lightning coming in through the ethernet connecton also. Electricity loves to travel down a wire. Isolating the device is the only real protection. If there thas been any electrical damage to your electronics and its now working due to repairs. You can expect other parts to fail in the near future. Theres always hidden damage waiting to show its self. Don’t expect your computer to be as reliable after you’ve had a lightning strike. The parts may continue to work but they will be significantly degraded. Backup your data.
geez people, no educational background here nor science. Surge protectors last from 1-3 years depending on how wavy is your current in your outlets. Surge protectors do not save from lightning strikes. Surge protector extends your electric electronic equipment life while emitting the small to big fluctuations on your current in your house. lets say you turn on the iron or wife turned on the hair curling machine, you may see the lights may fluctuate, thats the surge caused by the other electrical devices. hair dryer, AC Condenser or soldering iron kicks in and creates a drop or jump on the current in the household, surge protector emits those jumps and drops and provides a clear and stabilized power current to your devices. Trust me, I am an engineer with double major!

All their UPSs have electronic power conditioners with the same let-through voltage plus automatic voltage regulation. MOST surge suppressors' let-through voltage is 300 and above. Even a 20 volt surge can damage a component inside your expensive equipment. Now imagine 300+
I have had my gold series blekin 8 socket surge protector for 10 years and no problems dont even clean it. Its just a load of bollocks just spend a fiver and get any surge protected sockets (if ur in uk anyway)

I think a better example with surge protectors and lightning, is packing a vase in bubble wrap. The surge protector is the bubble wrap, it won't protect electrical equipment, or the vase as an example, from the epicenter of an earthquake, but it will from the tremors felt far away from the epicenter.

Do the amp ratings represent how much current the device can shunt away without burning up? For these devices to limit the voltage they need to provide a very low resistance path to ground and therefore will draw a large current.
I install these on Fire life Safety Equipment all the time, they work however they must be installed at least 36 inches from load to work lots of installers put them directly on the equipment.

My understanind is a Type 1, is installed between the pole and the meter, or on the meter such as this one: https://www.leviton.com/en/docs/Meter_Socket_Surge_Arrester_Product_Bulletin_Q-565.pdf or between the meter and the main breaker. These do not have over-voltage protection. Type-2 is installed after the main breaker on the service panel and is connected via a 20-amp or 30-amp breaker. also if you have sub-panels each sub-panel should have a type-2 whole house SPD. also and equipment such as an A/C unit with a disconnect should have an SPD installed The ideal system should make use of Type-1, Type-2 and type-3 SPD's. (That's my understanding of what I read in section 242, But I may be wrong)
