Hi. Can someone in the know help please? I know the RC3 GPS uses Polar W.I.N.D. technology, which cannot be used to transmit heart rate signals in water, but if I swim with the watch on normal clock mode is the unit waterproof or will I wreck the watch completely?

@Stephan The Polar V800 has just recently been announced. That's your 'RC5' I suppose ;) ( am thinking about getting a polar since I am starting to train for triathlons and want a device that can follow me through all three exercise. One question I have though is how much battery time do you get on a single charge. It would really suck to have the watch quit on you in the middle of a race :-). Thanks and great review

Hi Clive, yes, battery life is the bane of any GPS watch. However, after using this one for over a year, I'm still amazed by how good it is on this model. Compared to a couple other brands I've been using, this one still seems to have the best balance of features / usability / battery life of them all. I do a lot of long distance training, and this has never failed me yet.
Yes, it is. I do that often to overlay the tracks in Google Earth files and take screen caps. Pretty cool to see the track on a good relief map.
True, Intervals at the moment are limited to the RCX5. I'm sure they'll eventually have an RC5GPS which will have that. And agreed, the alerts aren't very loud. Honestly, I don't pay much attention to alerts anyway, just check the stats time to time and listen to my body.
Yes, you can download it as a GPX file. No TCX export, though, so it's only GPS data (no heart rate data).
Would it be possible to download your gps track from the polar webite, once you uploaded your training data to the polar website?
rc3 GPS does support intervals. Only issue I've found so far is that the alert is very hard to hear. I can't hear when I'm out of a zone when its raining out or when cars are passing me.
You can't swim w/ the RC3 GPS, it isn't submersible. The RCX5 on the hand is.
@JackDaniels002 has the right technical info up there. I have used mine in a lot of wet environments, and for a lot of paddling, but not a lot of swimming. The most important thing to remember with these types of watches is that they don't recommend pushing buttons when the watch is underwater. This can actually let water into the watch over time. Also, you won't get a great track from the GPS anyway. That said, it has been pretty durable.
Can't get the backlight to work.

Buen video, tambien tengo este modelo de Polar y la verdad es muy util y le he sacado bastante provecho, acá en Chile existen muy buenos senderos y el RC3GPS muestra toda la información al bajar la actividad en Polarpersonaltrainer. De verdad, lo recomiendo, un muy bien compañero de viaje que proporciona toda la informacion respecto a la ruta recorrida.
