Speaker Shootout - Fluance Signature Bookshelf vs. Pioneer SP BS22LR
I have a Pioneer elite A20 amplifier. What speakers go with that?
Been going down the rabbit hole of “best used passive bookshelf speakers” and come across these several times - but this was by far the best and most informative review that helped make up my mind. Thanks.
While not the most resolving of speakers , to say the least, I must say - when listening to certain types of music, I prefer these to my much more expensive and more resolving speakers that I have at my place. They have a certain ability to make harsh recordings more listenable. They are also a treat to listen to at a fair volume and are great for HT (in my case, 2.1 -channel HT), and even at lower volumes, speech is very intelligible. P.S. I know these are quite old, but they still hold up in 2020, and can be had dirt-cheap.
Hey everyone, just wondering what exact cord / connection setup I’ll need to use these with a vinyl record player
You can't hear the right sound with a 4-inch woofer speaker. At best, it can be used as a satellite speaker.
Hello whats the cheap amp you can pair with these? I clicked the link on the description box, it says page not found.
Newegg has these for $79 right now!
It would be nice if they packed the wires in with the speakers...
I bought a pair to use in a small bedroom, the only place I had available for setting up my two channel system, and drive them with a Plinius 9200 200W SS amp. I must say I am blown away by the sound for the money. Here in Australia they can still be had (as of Feb 2020) for less than $200 delivered. Paired with decent stands, a good source and amp, they are terrific for vocal and jazz music, but still perform very well with any genre of music. I have positioned mine about 3 feet from the rear wall and pointed them upwards about 1cm towards my listening position. If you are on a budget and want high-end sound I recommend these.
70K for a pair of speakers? as pricing goes, they left apple far behind and in the dust.
Do you have a review for the Polk TS 15?
The other player in this game is the Micca RB42. Guttenberg recently picked the Micca over the Pioneer. For the price, both are good speakers. The Pioneer has a bit better treble due to a larger tweeter and the wave guide. But the Micca has a much better bass response -- for it's size, it's remarkable. It all comes down to your taste in music.
They're still the best sounding bookshelves in this price range. I was really disappointed by the Sony SSCS5 compared to them.
is this speaker compatible w denon avr x2500h would it produce good sound thank you
Each speaker has 40w rms?
what type of wires connections do they use?
* * * Why No Sound Demo???.....just talk, talk, talk, talk
This review is a bunch of BS. The high range it’s kind of muddy not very clear the low range is bull me not tightly controlled or musical for such a small speaker the base is definitely boosted for sure at low volumes it’s impressive for such a small bass driver. I own these speakers I have tested him with three of my amplifiers one is a class A amplifier the second a class A/B amplifier, The third is a class D amplifier. Using high-quality audio file recording’s and CDs through a DAC. And no the speakers cannot be driven hard and retain clear audio. But for low-volume they were very impressive if you never listen to loud music in only Nearfield low volumes I can recommend the speakers. But you can look on some audio forms about people who have modified the speakers by adding extra material on the inside of the speaker for sound density and sound deadening and absorption. Change if you and add some components to the crossover network and you end up with an excellent speaker that looks like it’s a cheap speaker.
Bought these because of this video. Really solid speakers. My first decent pair though.
, I think these cabnets need a 5 1/4 inch woofer. if I ever buy a set, I'm gonna put a set of 5 inch wavecore truncated woofers in them and I bet they will sound much better because the cabnets are so big.
Hey man! thanks for all your effort, I really enjoy your videos. Can I place Pioneer SP-BS22LR 7inch away from back wall, and will it be sufficient for 19x11 size room with seating position straight 10feet away. Also if you have any experience with Micca MB42x. Thanks in advance for all your help.. Cheers!!
Man, which amplifier is decent to use with these speakers? I am currently using an SMLS SA100 and it sounds artificial and harsh several times (it even causes earache), any recommendations for me to be able to enjoy the best of these speakers?
How about using them for rear surrounds?
Inefficient? What is the size of your room? In a desktop environment (10m² x 10m²) even a 20W per channel vintage amp can sound good
We went to Best Buy, and we thought the PolkAudio T15 instead. We thought they sounded better, but at least, I am re-thinking. These were always “the cheap underdog,” or at least the Best Buy employee told us so. I think the S15 does beat these though, except at a little higher price.
Commenting on an old video but did you ever get the chance to review the SP-FS52 floor-standers? Ps: I'm a fan of the detail you put in your reviews. Thanks
Wondering, how would these compare with Q Acoustics, Q3020i in terms of sound presentation, sans the price?
0:20' damn ou talk really fast! I wouldn't mind if you slow down a bit. And how about a sound demo? Cheers
These speakers are TRULY amazing for the money. I am currently driving these with a Primaluna tube amp, and they sound gorgeous in my small room. They disappear with the right recordings. I have driven my pair with a 200W Plinius 9200 SS amp, which has more muscle than the Primaluna so added extra drive to the bass but is not as well defined in terms of air and mid range. Either way, tube or SS, the better the amp and source the better the sound from these little wonders. I actually prefer them to my B&W CM5s in the small room I have. Go figure. I highly recommend these, especially if you're on a budget.
I got these for my computer and am running them thru a Yamaha R-S202 receiver which is being fed from the ASUS Essence STX II soundcard. I rip to FLAC and 320kbps MP3s and I am continuously amazed at how good the music sounds. These speakers are an exceptional value for the money.
so this is what ray william johnson is doing now
Is it possible to wall mount them?
Hey ZF, compared this speaker to the Sony Sscs5 which one is better?
I just got a pair today, but I wanna hear what people say about these speakers lol and what to hear them too. Okay I’m heading back home now
"just go out and buy them" Say no more. Liked for the TLDW.
HI SHAUN, THINKING ABOUT PICKING A SET OF THESE SPEAKERS UP FOR MY MOTHER FOR CHRISTMAS ...YAH!! what would you suggest as a music server ...thinking about the yamaha RS 202 which has Bluetooth built in ....no need for a cd player is there anything out there possibly not for a whole lot of money that you would suggest thanks for your consideration....( although she does like CD'S)
Is that a veneer over particle or real wood?
Yeah, I think these and also the NHT SuperOne 2.1 are the best value. Any chance you can compare them?
Bought into all the hype I read about these and thought I got a steal at 89 bucks for them. After using them for 3 weeks and trying all manner of placement on 24" then 30" weighted metal speaker stands toeing them in then back to full front facing, and moving them farther then closer to the wall, I'm ditching them. Three friends of mine convinced me I was right in doing so as they all agreed that the bass is boomy and mid range is absolutely terrible. When I asked them if they wanted a deal on them, they passed. They just sound like cheaply made 6 by 12 inch boxes with the cheapest poorest crossovers imaginable. You people that rave about these must be coming from Bose systems.
* * * No Sound Demo just talk, talk, talk, talk, talk
A while back I had a pair of the SP-SF52 Andrew Jones Pioneers and had to immediately return them because of the underwhelming treble. I did like everything else about them, but I just couldn't force myself to like them. I'm someone who tends to lean forward on the treble and neutral on the bass.
Bought mine from the same eBay seller, I couldn’t tell they were refurbished, not even the packaging. These speakers are really amazing for what they are, non fatiguing and they throw a great soundstage...
That's the same way I got mine. Appeared to be brand new in original boxes. Shockingly good little speakers, especially when paired with a nice small sub.
i've used these before and they are great budget speakers! I've recommended these to friends who want something cheaper. great review!
AND ONCE AGAIN AN EXCELLENT REVIEW.!!! And for this equipement to shine you need the right music. So all you music lovers pay a visit to our channel. High quality choices from every music genre.
Great job Mike!!
Love the format, keep it up. Short and concise, great overview, sound sample, REW (a must), unboxing, good angles, cone movement, close ups, succint final thoughts.
Damn right I’m first again.. those pioneers are definitely something for the price
Please do this for the TEAC S-300HR Vs. literally anything.
13:41 what speaker stands are u using there?
the specs of the Pioneer SP BS22LR says the frequency response is 180hz to 20kHz, how come these speakers have bass? is the specs incorrect or something?
Let’s do jamo s 803 vs the pioneer
Pioneer sounds slightly stale compared. Fluance has a warmer sound but this is so Marginal. Both great speakers
I do not need the gimmicks or status of a brand. Only High fidelity and frequency range for me. Tube amps and vinyl together are unmatched in sound reproduction.
No doubt the Pioneers are superior.
Compared to these what are your thoughts on the micca rb42's im doing a small system for the kids got my old aventage 2030 a pair of psb imagine mini for surrounds bought the micca rb42-c as a center. Sub still looking but I might get the bic f12, polk 10 or elac 10 but not sure yet what to get to keep it budget for them to enjoy.
Love that you respect each speaker.
Whats a good budget amp to pair with the pioneers? TIA
The sony core sscs5 is a much better speaker and I can't find your review about it. Please Respond.
excellent review, really little to choose between, but the flat response makes pioneer more natural.
Fluance really impressed me after buying their signature center speaker, solid build.
I like the open more airy sound. Pioneer sounded to me something similar. Great review.
Fluances are better but considering that I'm ordering the pioneers for 80, it's a steal
Nice review, some areas I liked the pioneers better, some areas I like the fluance better. But, I absolutely think the pioneers, look like cheap crap (they look like Polk audio t15s pretty much and sound very similar to the polks, with the polks being half the cost ) and wouldn't be excited to have that look in my setup.
Best speaker review ever made man. Well done !!!
When listin from my smartphone then not identify witch is better but when use my headphones SENNHEISER CX SPORT then go for Pioneer good bookshelf speakers
Edifier R1280DB or Pioneer SP bs22LR? What’s your thoughts?
I bought the Pioneer SP-BS22LR. They sound good. Put them on a sony receiver with a SW. Very smooth sounding.
