How to Buy the Right Djembe
Remo: Mondo Djembe
How to Choose a Djembe
Gijs Van Straalen - Pearl Top Tuned Djembe
you don't play it like a djembe?
Great vid! Drink plenty of water next time though! Just say’n
On my output sound, I'm listening to your demo through 12-inch vintage JBL's pushed by tube amps. I got to say you are really excellent, I enjoyed your demo and explanation. But listening on my speakers, it sounded like your 12 inch Djembe had more bottom end and sweet overtones than the 14 inch. The 14 had a flatter sound with earlier decay, and less overtone. . Speaking only from my perception, and great speakers.
hi, what mic are you using?
thanks for the fantastic lesson. you are the best djembe teacher and performer in the universe so, i have a question. what do you think about the busking djembe? i wanna buy a remo djembe. i think 12inch model is more useful for the outdoor because it's more portable but the 14 inch sound great so i ask your opinion.
Thank you! This is exactly what I needed.
O.M.G?
what about 18 inch djembes or if theres anything bigger that you would review? maybe the differences between the different remo djembe heads
Great lessons you should visit Ghana. Guys you can contact me for your djembe drums for a very cool price.
This was extremely helpful. Do you recommend a particular brand for the premium key-tuned djembes?
10inch 1:04
They call it the easiest djembe. They'r'e not kidding.
Random question. Anyone know where to find the djembe stand used when he played the 10 inch at 1:05? It's perfect and i can't find anything like it anywhere
what is the right pitch for 16 ' remo djembe I just bought a new drum head and have some problemes to find good sound?
Great Demo
so wat do you call thisas this is a 18 inchREMO MO-2518-FD 18 Inch
I recently "rescued" a Remo Mondo djembe from someone's trash, cleaned it up, and replaced the head. Can someone tell me how tight I need to make the screws? How do you tune one of these? Thanks.
I think the 14" djembe sounds the best by far. But both the 14 & 16 djembe would have sounded a LOT better on stands to let the sound out of the bottom. In the video the smaller drums are played on stands, and they had the larger stand sitting in the back ground but didn't use it on the 14 & 16.
12" and 10" have better tight sound, 14" and 16" have too much sustain reverb.
I wish I could see a good YouTube video from Remo giving us tonal recommendations for tuning their various djembe sizes. I have a 12" Remo djembe and I just ordered a 14". They are fantastic instruments, but the lack of tuning videos for Remo djembes or video instructions on how to use their included sound control pads in djembes is appalling.
I'm very confused. is there an 18 inch model? the sizing conventions are all over the place on musiciansfriend. Is the first number the width or the depth? whichever model i demo'd rocked the whole damn room. I am definitely getting one. soo. is there an 18?
16 has best sound but is too big. 14 has best size but bass is a bit weak.
I have the 14 like the one in the video. Its the best! I love it. It is the perfect size in my opinion. The 16 had strong overtones that I didn’t like. This one did not ring as much and was closer in sound to the traditional Djembe without the hassle of maintenance. Good luck with your choice. Remo is an excellent brand.
Mondongombè .
I have an older Remo Djembe 16 and want to get a new head Should I get the Skyndeep, or the NuSkyn to not have the ring?
Can u help me to buyI m from India.

We used this in our marching band competition as our opener (Oak Grove High School Mississippi Marching Band Champions 2017) and it did its job well. However, the head broke after 3 weeks of playing. Just note that this isn't designed to be played for 12 hours each week in direct sunlight, humid air, and constant changing temperatures. And while being played by someone who learned how to play within 2 days.
Eu tenho um de 16" que tem um grave excepcional e estou a procura de um de 12".
Ok, I'm torn between 14 and 16. maybe I need both.
I am torn between a djembe and a Cajon.
Well he's wrong about the wood thing . . . Remo makes awesome Djembes.
Wonderful explanation love your humanity God bless you thanks
watch my cajon cover on shape of you I play this in place of dambuka ? I mean the way you play dambuka
Sir What about size ?
Thanks a lot for this video! But where can you get real good handmade Djembes
It would have been helpful if you could have provided recommendations on where to acquire quality djembe that meets the criteria you laid out.
Owesome possum “ great video thank you !
7:55 - It is a big deal and and issue today.
I have to disagree on the price point and buying in person it sounds a bit elitist to me. And not all pianos are wooden that’s a preference that doesn’t effect quality but that aside. If you’re paying a couple hundred for one you’re overpaying and being ripped off there are perfect quality ones for under 100 dollars. It’s a hand drum not a Hurdy Gurdy or Violin I would even consider 100 to be price gouging.
What about the djembe from inside? Any tips?
I started out with an out of tune askiko, learning on that. My first drum was a remo 14in mondo djembe, and I still love it. Nuskyn head has made it a perfect travel/gig drum. I play with a punk/jazzy kind of band, so the synthetic sound doesn't clash as it may in a drum circle. I finally saved up and am getting a real djembe from Wula drums. I'm so excited to get it in.
THANK you so much for this info about how to purchase a quality djembe. I got mine.followed this advice. Solid mahogany, rope turned, craftsperson made, goat skin head.
Djembe is the perfect drum for any beginner . You can contact me when you need one
very good and very helpful for us in maintaining the quality of our homemade djembe . please visit my djembe collection instagram @lentera percussion
I wear velcro shoes. The same kid you taught to tune/tighten a learnt to play piano in two weeks. I bought my first djembe in a charity shop this week. It’s v good quality, like the one in the video. Who would sanitise a drum You might as well wear hazmat suits to school.
About carving, the inner should be smoothly carved for a fine tune.
Could you tell me about the djembe that Kenny Malone plays? He's certainly at a high level and is an first-call studio player in Nashville, but when I see video of him playing a djembe, it looks like a synthetic, key-tuned drum. Since you say that all professional djembe players use wood drums, I'm curious about Kenny's djembe. Maybe his drum is in disguise, he doesn't play at a high level, or, more likely, you're just wrong.
4:57 but everbody knows asians are geniuses so is it in fact difficult to tune a djembe? (just kidding, please don't kill me guys. I love asian people, I love anime etc. etc.)
I would like a pearl djembe
Nice. What Djembe size is that, my friend and what stand are you using?
Great solo!
