While some of the speakers listed here are quite good, there is a lot wrong with this list. The Daytons are are only good for their price, they are a $30 pair of speakers. No way they should be in this list. The Yamaha is a very old design and it's also not a good speaker, And, they left off many newer designs that are excellent for reasonable prices.
Anyone looking for an amazing value in bookshelf speakers should consider the small maker Fritz Heiler. No dealer cut, no advertising or marketing overhead, just the talent and engineering expertise of someone doing this for 40 years. Not affiliated, just a fan. See a review, here, of one of his top of the line models: https://youtu.be/Hn3h3Tk6PzE
Fake news
I have a pair of Polk Rti A3's. I still love them, they sound great. But they've been around for almost 10 years. I'm sure you can get them for less than 1/2 price now new, which makes them a good buy in 2020, but thats stretching the title a bit.
TheTechMag...."You need a good pair of good speakers"?????.....as apposed to a good pair of bad speakers?....
Thanks for including the Yamahas...at $120 they're a no-brainer.
Useful!
went from $60 dollar speakers immediately to $750 speakers down back to 150
No klipsch? lol

No Elac speakers? And your number two is a Yamaha speaker with push terminal speaker connections?
Best??? 😂😂😂
Best? lol
B&w 606 would blow these away. Polk Lsim703 too!
These are not the best.
No JBL 530. Should rename video to "Second Best Bookshelf Speakers To Buy In 2020"
I watched a few videos on this channel and in my opinion it is an attempt to advertise on overpriced goods, uninteresting. I would describe it in words, a little more music for a lot of money. There are many more brands outside that offer the same quality for half price.
i think is better the KEF Q150 or the L50 meta... i think the 350 is just too large
no speakers can compare to Kenwood LS-N90S 150w 6ohm speaker it has soo much bass you don't need a subwoofer and very clear sound none of those speakers are good enough for them bc the have everything you need just 1 pair of them no subwoofer no nothing it's like your listening music in s car with 2 massive subwoofer and yes i loooooove bass
Hello, which better between Edifier R1280db and Edifier R1700bt?
Lisen in Edifier Studio R1280DB
r42 micca , and iloud also very good
I think that even if they tried, speaker companies couldn't come up with worse model designations.
E.G.,
--EF-21bB-R's
--SSzaA-141312-16.8's
--R14-1,2,3,4,&5 Box 11's
They should be like:
--Lava Star Medusas
--Black Sun Nuke Hunters
--Captain Fucker's White Whale Mutilations
It's not hard.
I had a pair of RP600M, found a significant frequency dip at 1.7Khz. For example, in Bryan Adams’ MTV Unplugged album, there’s a track called “Cuts like a knife”. At minute 2:35, the flute solo is almost inaudible.
Edifier s3000 pro Good? I don't know much about audio, but they look interesting.
Best powered speakers under $400 please that can hook up to a tv via optical at least. Considering the Klipsch R-51PM Amazon $339 or Edifier s2000mkiii $399 Amazon.
EXCELLENT VIDEO.!!! And for this speakers to shine you need the right kind of music. So all you music lovers pay a visit to our channel. High quality choices from every music genre.
i imagine you standing on a bosu balance ball, the workout can never stop : D
Thanks for content!
Respectfully, I was loving this until I heard you mention the klipsh speakers. Every klipsh I have heard has been hollow and fatiguing with sibilint highs.
Edifier sucks after buying 1, it stopped working after 2 days.
2ads before I got the program...
Where is dynaudio evoke? Common...

This is the least helpful speaker review I've ever heard. You'll never hear what you need to hear from some guy getting paid to stand in front of a camera. Find someone who LOVES music & audio equipment like Z reviews or Steve Guttenburg.
On the listening position response measurement, what is the cause of the large dip centered at about 140-150Hz? Is that floor reflection cancellation? What is the crossover point on this speaker? Purifi is working on a similar design, that uses a 3.2kHz crossover point. Which seems high to me.
Looking forward to your talking with Lars Risbo soon, he is brilliant and a super nice guy.
Erin, what software have you used to get those radiation plots?
I've been living with a pair of these for a week or two now as a bedroom listening setup. They are pretty amazing for such a small speaker. I have them about 16" from the back wall in my setup so the bass response is just right. The low frequency extension down to 40 Hz is pretty incredible for a tiny bookshelf speaker. As Erin has said, the midrange on these is pretty magical. I would also add that the midbass is absent of coloration. When you listen to the Purifi woofers, you soon realize how most small midbass drivers have significant distortion at low frequencies when you turn up the volume. The bass just sound correct. I would wholeheartedly recommend these speakers if you need something the size of a bookshelf speaker and want the widest bandwidth of linear response possible. Selah has taken a remarkable pair of drivers and implemented them very well. FYI - my listening setup for these currently is an Intel NUC running Roon R.O.C.K. into a Topping D90 into an Anthem receiver. The receiver will be pulled out of the system when the Purifi powered amp from March Audio arrives in a few weeks. Can't wait to see what all of that clean power does for dynamics with these little guys.
Oh, forgot to ask...
Which amplifier(s) did you use with these for your listening test??? Just thinking towards the efficiency aspect.
Erin, You're A MACHINE! :-)
I personally don't mind the shorter YouTube review here since you also provided the EXTREMELY in-depth measurements and write-up on your website months ago. 👍
So I completely understand why this video was a bit more brief, and I was actually a bit surprised to see it. :)
However, I know that A LOT of Audio Enthusiast viewers on YouTube in particular are ALWAYS interested to hear one's subjective listening impressions from at least a few well-regarded tracks.
Most of your current or existing followers from the audio forums etc are much more interested in the measured performance (including me), and of course, recognize and appreciate the true value in that! 👍
However, I feel that *your YouTube channel specifically* will grow exponentially faster and larger if you are always sure to include at least a few specific Subjective Listening Impressions from at least two or three specific musical tracks that you use in regular rotation.
Even gentlemen such as John Atkinson use this technique or "included information" in their technical reviews to make them more relatable and to help draw-in the readers that are from the "but measurements don't tell the whole story" crowd. After all, ultimately we are all in this mad hobby or game For The MUSIC.
And I do believe the subjective impressions give meaningful insight that further corroborates the objective measurements, which (I think) is one of your main goals in educating your audio enthusiast viewers.
I am really glad that you touched on the *Depth OF Stage* and *Depth TO Stage* aspects of this design, as IME that is usually what separates the wheat from the chaff in most speaker designs, where otherwise spectral balance, dynamics, and the overall soundstage & imaging are extremely good.
And for comments such as this, I would try to include the specific Music Track(s) where these properties were best demonstrated to you, just so others can relate and have a point of reference, and/or can subjectively test these properties in their own system at home, in car, or with headphones, etc.
I know that your written reviews usually DO include more of this. But IMO, *YouTube is a unique format* where Subjective Impressions can be more easily conveyed, are more influential (to the general enthusiast and a wider audience), and/or "are expected".
As a DIY bookshelf size KIT, these speakers have to be one of the absolute best price/performance values available, BAR NONE!
And still an incredible value in finished form. This natural wood veneer with the matte oil finish in particular is unique and gorgeous IMO. A welcome change.
While traditional piano black or other high-gloss color finishes can be beautiful, it's just a tired and dated aesthetic IMO. YMMV
Many might also be initially turned-off by the low efficiency, and I admit that was one of my reservations when the Purifi midwoofer itself that's used here was initially released.
But the team at Purifi have designed this particular driver in a way, or with "compensational properties" that make that potential issue a moot point, at least when the driver is used as intended.
Well, at least I'm staying true-to-form with my long-winded post. :-P But I truly do look forward to seeing your channel and website grow!
You need full BSC if the speaker will be free-standing. The speaker as supplied will likely perform better closer to the wall. Not a bad design decision by Rick, I'd say.
Amazing implementation.
Probably the best speaker of this size, bar none.
For people with bigger rooms and want to keep their speakers well away from the front wall, it’s good how Rick can adjust the crossover for full baffle step compensation, like how Erin dialled it in with his equaliser.
With all the current required to produce signals under 200hz (which is going to overwhelm nearly all current demands above it), I contend that the actual sensitivity of this speaker is much closer to 80-81dB/2.83v at 5ohms in current tune . Which is absurdly low.
I haven't been a naughty boy, maybe Santa will bring me a set of these.
1:06 *You mean too little BSC. BSC is a low shelf filter.
How does it compare to the Philharmonic BMR?
Definitely on my wish list -- hoping more makers adopt that revolutionary woofer. Thanks, Erin!

Haven't heard of microlab do you?
Costumers?
RP-150M is better then the R-41PM
клипш и эдифиер... сколько китайцы заплатили чтоб их рядом поставили?
Wow, poaching shots from other shitty low-view videos. Have my downvote!
Waste of time
nice varity.... 3 brands....
This dude clearly hasnt even listened to these speakers. Also, if you're gonna make a bullshit list, why would you put Edifiers own "better" model below its cheapest entry? If youre gonna fake a list, at least put a little thought into it. No effort shit content
Speaker stands - Amazon sells stands higher than 24". I'm using tripod thingis they don't make anymore. There is a brand, "monolith" that makes stands that high. It helps tire you of high volume listening and the bass mixes better.
bough the edifier because of this review. The build quality is AIDS. returned the 1st pair, got another and the second where just as shit.
I have jbl xtreme 2 is better??
I found the repetitive and annoying background noise very distracting. Shame, as it stopped me listening to what was being said.
