I took my GH5/12-60mm combo out yesterday and did a test, but I didn't get that cinematic film look like your footage. Is your footage straight out your camera, did you do anything in post? Could you please tell  me your settings in your GH5? I would be humbled. It's your footage that boosted me up to get this lens. The OIS performed flawlessly, but my footage looked too digital. You didn't get the lens 'free' with your G85... The G85 is at least $200 cheaper without the kit lens.

Great video. I see your kemper unit behind - do you make your music for the site too - very nice and professional. I have a G7 and we are trying to make a video for Youtube and courses on line and that camera only came with 2 lens and we are trying to get an area that's about four feet away from the camera on the tripod that at that distance would require about 5' x4"(at 4' away) of object in the lens to be filmed. THe lens that came with it are just not providing the range at all...way too close...would this lens do this?

Hey you look and sound like that Aussie bloke called Shane who reviews guitar stuff ;-) I got this lens with my G80 and it’s great for landscape or indoors when you need the wider field of view. Rest of the time I use a 14-140 which I think is the best all rounder.
Is this lens perform well in low light or night photography?
since you reviewed the 12-60 on a g85, would you get the same results with a gh5? since different pixels on the camera. also since the gh5 has ibis will it perform better with this kit lens?

Great camera for narrow field of view It's just always feels like a claustrophobic view ( unless it's a close-up on hands or product review footage ) Even with ultra wide views the perspective makes the footage feel like a camcorder video ( even though the 10 bit is incredible quality ) It just sucks that I'm this price range there not really a camera that gives you everything . To try get good dynamic range, good iso , good codec, good color , good field of view . It sucks that the camera companies cripple their products when we know damn well it's possible .

Dan > Im planning to get the GH5 inspite of the GH5s being just 10% more expensive to this in my country. Mainly for the IBIS. So i have a question, the GH5 IBIS kind of smooths out even pretty large movements ive noticed, not just tremor shake. So does this lead to lag problems when we pan or whip pan etc bec the IBIS takes time to differentiate between a intentional movement and a large shake ?

Hello Dan, I have a question about frame quality options.In my GH5 I have only the options with 24p, not 30 and 60p? Do I have to set something somewhere to have these options as well? MAny thanks in advance!
The problem here is that having watched several of Dan's reviews, I believe that each camera is for me! 😁. I was about to pull the trigger on the Canon 80D but now find myself umming and arring over this one. I am a keen amateur photographer who wishes to get more into video and eventually vlogging/short films. I already have a 4k camera (Panasonic Lumix LX100) but it is quite limited. Any advice...anyone??
I like how people move fast their cameras to test the video or whatever they think they'll see BUT slow motion record ALWAYS! Lame! (plus models also are told to move act in slow motion) Bluh
How would you best shoot something like mountain biking on the GH5 in slow motion if the auto focus tracking is as inconsistent?

Hey Dan, smacking review and it looks dope. I'm in a pickle though. I need something as an all rounder and its got be groovy underwater. This I know you can pre set white balance for so at depth that's essential. From what I read the Sony can't do that so one is scuppered at 30 metres! What I would struggle with is the focus on this and the Sony is very good in that regard. What would be my choices here to get it rock solid? Diving aside, if the auto focus sucks, its not going to be too good at home just messing about with the kids either. What is the work around to get the best from a focus point of view? The Fujifilm x T2 looks pretty nice but as yet untested underwater. This gets so many good reviews; 60FPS on 4K is essential, stability built in is great. Able to set white balance the major requirement. Ropey autofocus though, could be a huge turn off. Difficult....Any thoughts?
Kindly say if we shoot In 4K and downscaling to 1920 x 1080 p , can anyone view in the normal pc or hd tv the edited film?

Good review Dan. I have the Panasonic G80 & FZ330 and simply use single point AF (pinpoint AF is good) for video or switch to manual focus and rely on focus peaking to help me out.

Why is a kit lens, less w/ purchasing a camera than by itself?
It's probably the best kit lens from Panasonic. I took one of my best pictures ever with it and turned into a monochrome. Extremely sharp for a kit zoom lens.
Can you use it on Canon camera?
Very bad that - you use in all your video same video-sample.... You need more different sample for video review
this is my walk around lens ,decent range and not too bulky
have this lens and it's my daily driver so to say. changing to dinner primes, 14mm plus the 25mm, May switch out the 14mm for the 15mm. but the 12-60mm is a great lens for general walking round lens.
This lens is very poor for videography. It's not parfocal, panning is difficult as it loses focus very easily. Focus hunts for no reason. Btw I'm using G9

Thank you for this informative video. I just bidded on the same lens at Yahoo Japan auction and will soon receive it. I have the Panasonic 14-42mm as well as 45-175mm lenses, but frankly I get tired of swapping lenses. So, this 12-60mm will give me a bit more wide and zoom in comparison to the 14-42mm. To get more zoom, I will soon purchase the recently released (March 2019) Olympus 12-200mm telephoto zoom. It is currently in #3 position in popularity here in Japan.

One of the better lens reviews, straightforward and pertinent to its intended use, as an all purpose lightweight lens which would be ideal for those with micro four thirds system cameras going on holiday or travel, etc. Its slower focussing in video might though be an issue for taking family movies? You could make a great travel kit with this lens and a 35 mm or 50 mm fast prime. I don't have this lens, but I'm thinking of buying for a present for my daughters to share on their Olympus cameras.
